Best thing I've learn from my mentor who did this for about 50 years is that it's best to use a guide for the angle and more importantly keep between 10 and 15 degrees between the file and the blade plane, never perpendicular. Best of luck out there fellas🙏
Congrats you pronounced Oregon correctly, some east coast people & canadians can't get it right.... great channel by the way greetings from northwest Orygun
Cold you do a bit of a close up as your running your file across the blade showing both angles. I would really appreciate it. Thanks. GOD BLESS you and your family.
I swear I felt like I was watching an old SNL skit. Too funny!!!! It also made me think of the attorney in the movie "My Cousin Vinny" that couldn't get his words out. I'm honestly not meaning to sound like an ass, I just honestly loved the video and it honestly made me laugh. AND, I learned how to sharpen my blade.
I have 10 low hour blades that hit rocks. I do pct for a living never got very good at reworing teeth. I can keep it sharp but thats about it. Ill sharpen every tank.once it takes a bad hit i cant get it back.
Good video but there are other ways of accomplishing the same task, I like to use a vice I leave my best tools and files at the vice, the vice holds the blade tight and square in both directions, I usually have 4 blades on the go at one time and I take all blades with me when I go thinning, I use the methods you use in the field if necessary but normally it is faster to change the blade to a sharp blade and then continue. One thing that you did not mention was filing the blade with a flat file on the flat side of the cutting edge once your blade gets filed a few times you need to bend it back to the tool angle and file the flat on the outer edge and then sharpen, doing all of this is smoother in the vice and I have a light there as well and it is the same standing position all the time. I also started with a Husqvarna about 30 years ago and now have a few Stihls to do the trimming. I also have bought a Bush Hog Squealer a brush cutter that connects to the 3 point hitch on the tractor it is much better production with the bush hog than the bush saw. When I was younger I used the spacing saw more now it is used to rim where the bush hog cannot easily get to like close to the tree stumps. These tools are not for the faint of heart you will get your work out and it is better to use these spacing/thinning saws in the fall or winter (cooler weather) Happy trail cutting.
You still should take the blade of which is not much work and put it in a vise when you are not out in the wood for a more constant angle when fileing for you are doing it freehand anyway which isn't to accurate and it is even more important when you are resetting the shank (schränken)
We know first hand the damages that can be caused by power equipment such as mowers with children. Always be aware of your surroundings and teach them to respect the machines at a young age!
Had that "made in germany" hardened steel blade but its just trash. 310-350mm tungsten carbide tiped blade lasts for months if you dont smash it into rocks...
Just a week ago here in Ohio I saw a man/boy cutting his grass with what looked to be a 4 or 5 year old child walking behind him and his mower. What he didn't understand was a child's eyes/head is closer to the ground and more at risk to any thing the mower may hit and toss out from under it. If the child was to be hurt by his neglect I would hope he would be charged with Child Endangerment.
K Simpson guess what I rode my bike today without a helmet ! I ate a medium rare steak and I ran with scissors! Drank water from a well and rode a horse with no helmet either ! I lived !
At 9 I saw a girl get an eye put out with a rock and at 10 one of my best friends lost both his legs while cutting grass on a hill. So watching out for children, mine or someone else's is something I think we all should do!
Would you let your five year old do the same? If so it's because of people like you that some states now have laws against Children riding Bicycles without helmets.
Of course not...you are assuming you know best and that no one else has common sense. Can't protect everyone with laws and regulations, some people are just stupid end of story.
Really appreciate the brush clearing saw videos. Not as many out there.
Another great, informative video, Simeon! Thanks for sharing.
Great no nonsense video. Thank you.
"Go freestyle" Simeon the smart man ...goes wild haha Great wsy to get longevity on the blades, thanks.
Nice and simple. Thanks Simeon.

Great video... Much better than the others

nice one Simeon .. interested to see your demonstration of how you use it ..

Thanks for the video. Where can i find the small balde guard? Mine is the original and is much wider and deeper.
Thank you for this video!
I am not sure you specified which file to use
Very useful, thank you.
I Have a Husqvarna 562 XP what combination roller should I purchase for filing my chain? The .325 inch?
Simeon, do you use the recommended 7/32" file that's recommended or go smaller? I notice that the 7/32" file doesn't leave the "hook" on the tooth.
Bigger the better for a thinning saw chainsaw is different smaller is better
Did you know that the black fastening nut on your file handle indicates the proper filing angle (at least for chainsaw chains)?
What is the file size for that blade?
Q: What size file is used to sharpen this blade?
A: 3/16
By Kimberly on October 4, 2017 - This feedback was on Amazon.com for this blade...
4.8mm
7/32 file for blades even says on original package and owners manual of saw
is there a way of contacting you? have further questions of the sharpening and the functioning of the blade.
Wha size File?

@@stephenmacdonald912 flat file top of tooth to get the square edge back
No information on what angle you should use when using the file.

Of course there are other ways....like he said "this is how we do it"
You should make a video. Would like to see👍
Excellent. BUTT--while sharpening be sure to pull off the spark plug wire.

How is your English so good?

Mihkel Laansoo I wonder why all the pros use the regular blades then...
cos rocks are unavoidable so might as well use the cheapies and replace often

Good thing you didnt run with scissors....

His brother is the expert in all things forestry and not him.
First thing.... he's filing backwards. Who puts a saw between their legs????? Wtf is that. USE YOUR LEFT HAND THEN YOUR RIGHT-HAND
this is a pain in the ass! Why not just buy a new blade - its only $7
It took no more than 5 min. first time doing it. And higher quality blades costs much more.
It takes the same amount of time to sharpen as it takes to change a blade... Essentially. Save your money and sharpen until you can't anymore.
Em Elle I just bought one of these chisel tooth blades, 29.99.
