Thank you for the wiring diagrams! You're the only source I've found anywhere to put them online without having to pay to sign up for TIS. As a matter of principle I hate manufacturers not publishing their wiring diagrams, so I prefer not to reward them for it with money.

I am very glad to have found this video, but I'm too old now to go to all this kind of work. I like my original car stereo just fine, but the display likes to go extremely bright when the car first starts most of the time. It's especially annoying at night. If you drive for a while it fixes itself. It appears to be related to the humidity. Anyway, I'm looking into replacement options and this was excellent information. Thanks

    Colin, a few questions:
1- I do not have the JBL package. Do I still need to purchase the amp module/harness? How do I connect the speakers to the pioneer unit?
2- reverse gear signal wire- where did you source the wire for this? Did you tap into reverse lights and use this wire for the rear camera and to connect to pioneer unit?
3- parking brake wire- were you able to use the video functionality on unit while driving without connecting this wire to anything? I read in other comments to connect that wire to any ground source to bypass the parking limiter. Wondering if I need to ground it or can leave it hanging.
4- can you tell me which rear camera you installed with this unit? I was reading the voltage on certain cameras can be an issue
    Thanks!

    • @ColinLeung
      @ColinLeung  3 года назад +2

      Hello Shafi,
      1. You do not need the JBL amp package. You can purchase this harness, and connect the wiring from the back of the stereo to harness. This will then connect to the plugs behind the dash. amzn.to/2QYrni4
      2. I had a wire tapped into the (I believe red/blue, not the white) wire from the right rear reverse light bulb to power the backup camera when in reverse. I had to supply 12v of power to the unit when reversing as well. See the middle of this link (pin 29) for where to tap into. You can also run a very long wire from the reverse light into the back of the unit. priuschat.com/threads/tapping-into-reverse-light-for-backup-camera-help-please.190377/
      3. I actually could not play videos because I left the wire hanging. It will need to be grounded, or connected to something like this. amzn.to/3fGAv5t
      4. I currently have this backup cam on amzn.to/3dB15tU

Theoretically it would be easier, and you may only need the standard stereo harness and Metra Axxess ASWC-1 Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface (if you want to use that). You would NOT need the Metra TYTO-01 JBL Amplifier Interface Harness.
There are screenshots of the prius wiring diagrams that start at 5:10 if you are inclined to read through that, and match the wires on the stereo harness and steering wheel control interface.

@@ColinLeung Did you have to use a jumper on the oem wiring harness? The climate control buttons on the steering wheel uses a OEM harness that isnt used in the install of a radio

@@xpocad I did not use any jumpers. Only the two modules mentioned in the video, and spliced 3 wires for the audio controls. The climate controls work on my steering wheel, and I don't think I touched any of those wires. They may be connected to the heating control unit.

Does the climate control on the steering wheel also thru this? Bestbuy installed a new radio but I didn’t get the volume control and they say I should still have climate control but now I lost climate control too

    • @ColinLeung

I do not believe it does. My climate controls are on the right of the steering wheel, and continue to work. My audio controls are on the left of the steering wheel.
