Melhores Momentos | Junho 2023 | Mata Atlântica, Base Parque Nacional do Itatiaia

Esse é o resultado da 1ª campanha de monitoramento de fauna no Parque Nacional do Itatiaia (PNI), nossa nova base de atuação na Mata Atlântica. 🌳
O monitoramento conta com 15 armadilhas fotográficas distribuídas na parte alta, de formação vegetal mais campestre, e na parte baixa, onde predomina a formação florestal.
O PNI é lar de muitos animais, como tamanduá-mirim, cateto, queixada e macaco-prego, que estão entre as 26 espécies de mamíferos registradas nesta campanha!
Reparem que, no mesmo ponto, mas em noites diferentes, três espécies de felinos silvestres caminham pela floresta: a onça-parda, a jaguatirica e o gato-do-mato-pequeno. Nessa sequência fica mais fácil de compreender a diferença de tamanho entre eles!
O monitoramento contribui para o conhecimento científico e para entendermos melhor a dinâmica desses animais no espaço, especialmente em áreas com presença humana. Assim, temos informações para planejar melhor o uso e ocupação do local de forma a garantir a proteção da nossa rica biodiversidade!

This is the first fauna monitoring campaign in Parque Nacional do Itatiaia (PNI), our new base in the Atlantic Forest. 🌳
In total, there are 15 camera traps distributed in higher ground, where the vegetal formation is composed of fields, and lower ground, where forest formations predominate.
They show us that the PNI is home of many animals: southern tamandua, collared peccary, white-lipped peccary and robust capuchin monkey are among the 26 mammal species registered in this campaign!
Notice that, in the same spot, but on different nights, three species of wild felines walked through the forest: puma, ocelot and oncilla. The sequence makes it easy to understand the size difference between them!
Monitoring contributes to scientific knowledge and is very important in order to understand these animals’ spatial dynamic, especially in areas with human presence. That way, we have more information to plan the better use and occupation of these areas, and ensure the protection of our rich biodiversity!
