    There are peak starting current ( sub transient) of 14 times of rated current for 10 to 15 m second. For DOL starter.
    Starting current shall be 7.2 times of rated current for 5 to 30 second.

    I want to ask a question about motor, the question is how can we identify a motor having 3 wires outside that motor is single phase or 3 phase even no capacitor is connected to it?

    Sir , I think as Motor Windings being inductors basically , when switched on to a sinusoidal supply , there happens the inrush of current only due to the transient response ; in fact currently through an inductor can not be changed instantly na .
    Please review my comment .

    Sir...moter me v aap log students ko bataya kijiye kon sa moter hai...ac ya dc moter hai and ac hai toh AC me kon sa moter hai and agar dc hai toh kon sa moter hai...kuy ki dono ka alag rule hota.. starting current high lene ka.

    Sir motor pe jab load hota he ustime jitna starting current leta he No load condition me utna hi starting current lega ya use jada current lega....

      Ashok, load jitna jyada hoga current bhi utna jyada hoga. Jab motor pe load badhta hai to current bhi badhta hai..
      No load condition mein motor ka current full load ke comparision mein bohot kam hota hai.

      Yes it is true that high Starting current is due to no back EMF at the time of starting. Also impedance value is very low which results into high current..

      Siya Ram, agar rotor speed and Synchronous speed same ho jaye to aisi motor ko Synchronous motor bolte hai.

      1500 RPM me nhi ghumti, no load me 1480 tak ghumti hai. Load daalne par RPM kam hota jata hai aur torque badhta hai.

    What happens if we select a oversized for a motor, suppose if I can select 15 or 20 HP both greater than my requirement of 11 hp. What happens if I select the 20 HP

      Ranjit, if you take over rated motor then the it will run on less load bcoz of its oversize. This will result into low efficiency and higher losses. It will also result into high power consumption. The running cost of motor becomes high. That's why it is utmost important to select correct size of motor.

      ​@@romitshirguppi3964 i think we can do it using VFD, as in VFD we controlable variable frequency (V/F=constant).
      With change of frequency, speed of rotating magnetic field in the stator changes accordingly.
