The name colombo - kolom thota has derived from kolaba thotupala , kelani thota , kelaniya is most ancient city around before 2500 - 5000 year old naga kingdom was there.
once loard budda has visited to kelaniya kingdom was in a war for a blue gem chair. between two brothers calld chulodara mahodara brothers. and loard budda has solved the problem. and historical kelani temple has wall art about those story at that time.

@@sanka1 Oh please! He visited Sri Lanka 3 times, although Buddhism did come to Sri Lanka after his death. Plenty of proof if you want to look into it. Coincidentally, when they say the first king in Sri Lanka came from India, that is wrong too. There were already rulers in Sri Lanka when the prince from India came there.

Actually Colombo Airport is an airport located in a suburb of Colombo called Rathmalana, it used to function as the international airport of Sri Lanka until the BIA was built in Katunayake. Today it only services domestic flights though.

And colombo is not the official capital but considered and priorotized as commercial capital of the country and colombo district is the smallest district and have the second largest population in sri lanka number 1 goes to gampaha..and colombo city limit has less number of citizens than the outer colombo city suburbs..(this is controdict to other popular city demographical spread you find around the world)

I think it it was 70% if I remember right, but yea budhism is the majority. There is also Hindus Muslims and Christians in the remaining 30%.

It's bad that foreign people get some names wrong because most Sri Lankans don't use the correct English letters when they write Sinhala names in English. For example, It's "Katunayaka" (KA-TU-NAA-YA-KA), not "Katunayake" (KA-TU-NAA-YA-KII) like his said in the video.
Just a quick fact about Colombo: it is NOT the capitol of Sri Lanka! It is the COMMERCIAL CAPITOL!

These are some amazing facts. I'm telling you though, more Sri Lankans will appreciate this video if you use the correct pronunciation, as many many people mispronounce our names and words. For example in the case of this video, you pronounced Galle Face (Gall) as Gaali face, which isn't the pronunciation. That aside i enjoy your videos. Keep it up

The name "Colombo" not introduced by Portuguese but when they arrives, the peoples pronunciation was "Colomba".. most of foreigners can't pronounce native words properly even you couldn't do so in this vedio.its ok. Colomba ---- for easy pronunciation Colombo.👍 thanks .🇱🇰

Extremely interesting and informative video. The airport in Katunayake belongs to Colombo district. That's why it's called Colombo airport. Apart from that there is another airport inside Colombo city, in Ratmalana.

Colombo AirPort And Katunayake AirPort are two different AirPorts.
Although we write it as Galle, in sinhala we may pronounce as gālla (instead of an Ah, it's a schwa at the end afaik.) In Sri Lankan English however, we read the word 'Galle' as 'Goal' (not to be confused with the word 'Goal' itself)
By the way, your pronunciation is acceptable in tamil aspects. They call Galle, Gaali Maavattam.

One mistake bro, Colombo is NOT the capital city of SL. It can be called the commercial capital. The capital is Sri Jayawardenepurapura Kotte, where the parliament is located.
kola-amba (in sinhalese) kola means tree leaves/color green. Amba means-mango. colombo use to be filled with mango trees back in the day.hence the name,some say.
