See what my Mom THINKS of her Top Loader High Efficiency Whirlpool WTW5000DW1 Washing Machine

  • -My Mom thinks this washing machine is a "piece of shit". She does not mince words and she proves her points.
-Whirlpool WTW5000DW1 High Efficiency Washing Machine, Top loader Washing Machine.
-She is on a well, thus the reason she bought it--to be frugal with water.
-You can NOT do laundry if you have 9-10 inches of laundry and 2 inches of water. It is totally insane this machine!!!
-Lessons learned in TRICKING THE MACHINE INTO ADDING MORE WATER: Keep it on "Heavy" load.
-She adds to buckets of water so that THERE IS WATER IN THE WASHING MACHINE. HAVE I MENTIONED HOW THIS IS TOTALLY NUTS?!...
-She has had it for a few months, so she did not come to this conclusion lightly.
-Very frustrating machine as it does not wash!
-Please NOTE that this is our opinion, you do you due diligance.

Wow way over loaded! But the design of the washer is to fill and drain all through the cycle so your clothes do not sit in dirty water. Use bulky or heavy cycle and deep water wash for the most water. Maybe reading the cycle guide would help 🤷🏼‍♀️ also Normal uses the least amount of water. The washer took 3 hours because she added water that was not needed.

Mom is always right! Washing machine engineers should use the equipment they design. It might require another PHD for them to lean how to sort whites from darks, medium colors from dish towels, cleaning towels from the rest etc. My mom taught me well. Since she passed, I had to buy a 3 new washing machines. Laundry is not fun any more. I stink and I can drink 12 beers before the machines fills up to the 3 inch level. New adopted mom, how come when I put my dirty blue collar working clothes on soak and open up the door 15 minutes later there is no water in the tank? I can't believe you cursed. You should see what I do when I wash my clothes. When everything is said and done, I dress in shame as my soiled clothes look no different when they went into the machines. I love this video mom and I thank you for speaking the truth. Don't know what I miss more................my old school washing machine or my late mom. I know one thing for a fact, I would get dirty lickings if my late mom saw my clothes after I purchase my W.P washing machine. Better yet, she is probably rolling over in her grave. Just bought a used Whirlpool to replace an 11 yr old GE Quiet Wave, also a POS. I told them 11 yrs ago that I didn't want a hi efficacy washer and the GE never said it was one on the outside but after I got it home, opened the manual, it fessed up to being HE when it said that HE detergent is recommended. Thing with that one, it would get unbalanced if YOU chose the water level but left up to the machine on sensing, it never put enough water in there to spin uneven OR cover your clothes. So far, I love, love, love my used Whirlpool with 4 small knobs and the big one. Love the simplicity and the fact that it's an actual WASHING machine. I hope by now you've replaced that POS. I feel your pain. I have owned a Whirlpool HE for about 3 years now and, over time, with some frustration, I have been able to get things down to a "science". Firstly, my model has an agitator -- I insisted on it. Secondly, it has a "Deep Water" option which proportionately increases the amount of water in the tub. My aim is always to completely cover the clothes and to allow them to move freely during the cycle. Occasionally, I have found it necessary to add water with a hose, but not too frequently. Now, I noticed that your WTW5000 model does have the Bulky/Sheets cycle and this may be your salvation. This would add considerably more water to the wash. The only drawback is that it is not subject to the Soil Level settings and washes for only about 10 minutes. I typically press Pause and let the items soak for awhile to allow for a deeper clean. Let me know if this helps a bit!

It looks like a copying machine. Better yet, a paper shredder." When I watched it in action during the final spin cycle, it took 6 minutes to spin a load of towels because my father kept asking me "Is it finished?" I said "No, it's still spinning" "How many minutes left?" he asked "Five minutes!" I replied. "Is it finished yet?" he asked. "No, it's still spinning!" "How many minutes left?" he asked. Softener is completely useless and causes buildup on clothes. Either way, you can use a Downy ball since this machine has no dispenser. Also, deep water wash is better for regular clothes than the bulky setting because the bulky setting only does a low spin speed so your clothes will come out wetter, making your dryer work harder.

i had the same washer, there is a deep water wash cycle, this will fill the tub about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way full and is more than enough water for a full load. it will not fill to that level all at once for whatever reason, it will partially fill, agitate awhile, then add more water. also, you cannot mix large heavy blankets, comforters, jeans, and large heavy bath or beach towels with regular clothes and smaller items. the big bulky stuff needs to be washed separately on the bulky cycle, the bulky cycle continuously adds water throughout the main wash and often uses more water than you need, and it also uses more water on the rinse. the normal cycle is the cycle that uses the least amount of water because it is intended for average sized loads of light weight smaller items that can sit in very little water and get circulated through the water, as the items on the bottom work up and rise above the water, the stuff that was above the water gets drawn down into the water, and this happens gradually and is why the wash time is longer than on an older washer with a traditional style agitator. these washers are not as good, but you have to do things differently and they will in fact clean your clothes very well. if you use these machines in the same manner as an older model, you will get bad results. i have an older style machine now and i can mix heavy and bulky items with smaller items and it is not a problem, but these machines work differently and the way you sort items needs to change for best results. the only cycles on this washer you should be using is the deep fill and bulky cycles, i can tell this woman likes to do laundry the old way, you fill the tub up all the way and reach around to feel for spaces that are not filled in and adjust the clothes a bit and then add more clothes, and this is how i fill my top loader because it is an older model and it works out well, but these he machines do not allow you to really fill the tub up, you have to drop the clothes in loosely and cannot feel around and adjust the clothes to make room for more clothes. so, this woman is correct, you do have to do more loads of clothes than before because they will not hold as much despite having bigger tubs, but if she changes how she does her laundry, she will not prefer this washer over her previous washer, but she will in fact find that this washer will properly wash clothing, use less water, but take twice the amount of time which voids out any electricity savings, and because you need a 2nd rinse and end up doing more loads than before, there is not that much water savings, but on certain loads you do use a lot less water. with this machine you have to do laundry differently and when washing light weight items and smaller items together, you can use the normal cycle and get very good results and use very little water on these types of loads. these machines come with the bulky and deep fill options because some loads do require a lot more water than others. a good example of a full normal load would be: 3 to 4 pairs of pants that are light in weight, 5 shirts/blouses, 5 t shirts, a weeks worth of socks and underwear, some hand towels and wash cloths, and a few other random items. this will loosely fill the tub up full, and the normal cycle that uses very little water will in fact handle a load like this just fine. most of the clothes will be above water at first, but gradually the clothes will circulate through the water several times during the main wash and they will get washed properly. HUGE WATER SAVINGS. a heavy blanket with the sheets and pillow cases will fill the tub up full, but, the normal cycle will not work, you need DEEP FILL OR BULKY for this load. this will provide a lot of water and the impeller will also function differently to handle this type of load, and in fact, wash it properly. you will not save water on these types of loads and the cycle time is very long, but on normal loads you will save a ton of water. also, jeans and jackets need to be washed on deep fill or bulky, otherwise, they will not get washed, and how you load these items into the machine must be done differently for best results. make sure the jeans are fully stretched out and lay them in the machine in an alternating pattern, like a criss cross pattern, when the impeller begins to agitate, the jeans will move vigorously and the machine will roll the jeans around and circulate them very well. jackets need to be open and laid out in the machine as if you were laying the jacket on a bed vs. a vertical position. before i got my current washer that i bought used and restored myself, i used a washer just like the one in this video, you have to do things differently in order for them to work. i sold my he washer and bought a used washer that needed a transmission rebuild and a new clutch because i like a washer that gets it done in 30 minutes and is more versatile. i am single so i do not want to sort things based on size and weight because i will end up doing 3 small loads instead of 1 big load. i wear pants more than once before washing them if they do not get dirty, i only change socks and underwear daily and t shirts. some of my long sleeve shirts do not get dirty and i hang them back up, so, when i do my laundry i can fit all my clothes for one week in one load along with my towels and some times it is not even a full load. i can throw everything together and have the load done in 30 minutes. also, i wash my sheets and pillow cases every other week and can usually fit them in with my clothes in one load. blankets and comforters get done 1 time per month and it is 3 loads, 1 for my heavy huge blanket, 1 for the first comforter, and 1 for the 2nd comforter. and when i had the he washer it took FOREVER to wash my bedding, almost 5 hours, now it takes less than 2 hours.

This video popped up and had me cracking up laughing because I felt exactly the same! SO FRUSTRATED! I already called to get it exchanged and getting myself a commercial washer. This machine doesn’t really make you save water when you are having to do a load everyday because you can only put about 4 items in there! I completely agree with your mom... ITS A PIECE OF SHIT!

I checked the instructions and it tells you where to adjust the water levels. This machine is overly complicated for us basic laundry non techs. Then if you use fabric softener, you have to baby sit it until the water levels fill before putting it in. Otherwise you're stuck with Downy Fabric Softener Balls forever.

I’m a water watcher and environment watcher, but didn’t realize the water level wouldn’t raise higher than the clothes. I like lots of water in my washer when doing laundry. I can only hope someone figures out, soon, how to bypass this issue. Until then, I’m stuck! What this washer reminds me of - is the front load washers. If you notice on these washers, it seems very little water is in the barrel when it’s turning. I guess this is the same concept?

We have 2 laundromats in our town. The one laundromat just recently upgraded to all new machines and they are the HE machines. I was doing laundry there recently and I was looking inside the machine (front loader) and I kid you not I swear I saw no water in there or barely. I was like, "where the hell is the water?" LOL They have a few top loaders still, but you can only fit a small amount of clothing in those because you have to be careful not to overload them (they don't use much water either). I have been going to other other Laundromat more often now because they have the older machines still that work great (Speed Queens) and its cheaper money wise. I forgot to mention that I noticed with the newer machines the other laundromat has now, they have had them jusy shy of 2 months now and there are a couple that are already out of order. 🙄

Mine is a Maytag with agitator. It has the 10-year commercial technology and is approximately 5 years old. The hub has worn out twice now. I paid a service call around $180 for the first repair. The serviceman told me to always use deep water option for everything. Now, how is that saving water? If you do not use the deep water option, there is barely any water to cover the clothes. He also told me that another repair is not advised because the cost comparison against a new machine is more favorable to replacement. For the second time the hub broke, my daughter replaced it and it cost $28. The dilemma with replacement of the machine is that you cannot improve your situation because all washing machines are pieces of junk. The government has ruined our ability to get clean clothes and is costing us mega amounts of money. For the record, I have had a front loader that broke in less than 10 years (it’s support for the tub gave out and it had mold issues on the seal). I have had a machine with an impeller that broke because of the supporting structure. It was not very old. I moved to an agitator thinking it might last longer. Someone needs to reverse the government mandates on washing machine technology. Our clothes are not really clean.

Plus it has those good agitors that actually move the clothes up and down and it gets full hot water and I can stop the cycle to soak it as long as I want in the tub and stop the cycle to add stuff. A lot of them you cannot do all of this anymore and little tiny water filling the tub instead of just letting people chose what they want!
