    Do you know when you will make a video about Dubs' mods?
    Rimatomic, Rimefeller, & Dub's Bad Hygiene.
    There's a lot to talk about, especially for the first one.

      @@MysteriousFawx It may be odd, but somehow my comments that I forget to self-like never get noticed by anyone. It does indeed look odd, but it works. Probably not needed on smaller channels, though.

    I remember using the Grimworld lasgun variant and removed the laser guns in this one with Cherry Picker. I knew they bypassed shields but the burn damage makes them very dangerous, especially since I was playing with Royalty Expanded and fighting Deserters. Probably shouldn't have done that. 😂

    I would love a video or several with you actually ranking certain 'sets' of mods. Either 'for a certain playstyle/run' or from a group like Vanilla Expended or maybe even Xenotypes overall.

    Genuinely not sure how, but I did a Play thru once where I downed a guy with a laser sword like really early game. Let's just say everything that got near that melee pawn for the rest of the run didn't make it and I genuinely had no idea because I didn't check the stats, I just assumed it was some OP Empire baby

    I always thought laser weapons were more style than substance. Definitely not the kind of weapon to focus on for base defense, except if you want to guarantee lots of burns on your colonists, with every raid.

      if you want weapons that are sickeningly strong but with draw backs you should see the VWE coilguns mod. it adds various railgun style weapons including an assault rifle style variant. They not only do the damage but they can pierce through everything within the 32 range they have so anything in that 32 range will get hit. Including friendly's. Its why i started using bionics on one run. I got a gauss magnum for a quest a few months in and its user was gradually responsible for removing toes and such from everyone else since coil guns have a high dismemberment chance.

    • @the-letter_s
      @the-letter_s 6 месяцев назад

      @@thirstyserpent1079 i never use that one, due to friendlies always rocking up with coilguns and offing each other AND my colonists with them.

    • @thirstyserpent1079

      @@the-letter_s Yeah I had to incorporate ranged shields and cataphract armor due to the friendly fire from the automatic rifles. It also led to me making half my forces use stuff like Charge LMG's because when I staggered my units you can't have layered troops with charge/rail weapons since you will merc your own forces xD.

    I did some testing with those some time ago. The laser weapons are weird and could probably use some balancing if I'm being honest. But I like the rifles and sniper rifles from this weapon pack.
    Salvaged las weapons are close to being useless in light of having other alternatives - regular charged weapons work better, and with vanilla expanded regular weapons, you also gain access to amazing charge SMG and LMG. And you have control over what you get.
    On the flipside - proper laser weapons are extremely uneven. Pistol, and SMG are mediocre, minigun is just bad, sniper is a fairly solid weapon, but laser rifle... Is actually incredibly good with a proper setup - with other Vanilla expanded mods in tow.
    Trigger happy pawn, with appropriate superpower from ancients or buffed by a proper psychast to reduce the aiming time - this allows laser rifle to fire insanely quickly.
    Laser sword is close to being broken, it is that good, even with mediocre quality.
    The problem is - getting these weapons is a pain. I had plenty of playthroughs where I was unable to find any among traders, and found no random drops in complexes, nothing of decent quality.
    Now, when it comes to laser weapon practicality - from what I recall, their damage output is largely a heat component. This makes their damage per shot actually deceptively low - especially against mechanoids. That is offset by Laser Rifle's good rate of fire and Sniper Rifle's extremely high nominal damage per shot.
    So what are they good for?
    You are probably better off with other weapons, except swords, sniper rifles and rifles. Swords are great overall melee. Sniper rifles are top-notch sniper weapons, and laser rifles are absolutely amazing defensive weapons. Why? Low damage per shot, good accuracy, very good rate of fire and very good range. They outrange any conventional, non-sniper gun in the game, making them ideal for a firing line.
    They have a good chance to set enemy on fire - enemies who burn suffer from pain, meaning more potential prisoners.
    The only downsides is low damage against mechanoids (but volume of fire makes up for it) and the fact that fire may be dodgy in mountain bases. Laser weapons are wonderful against bugs, except the small problem of fire turning the room you are fighting in into an oven for your troops as well - and with bug's sheer numbers, corpses burning from one another may turn into a problem really quickly.

      @MysteriousFawx  6 месяцев назад

      The heat damage is a huge part of their makeup for sure, you can see just how much on the comparison test against the granite walls. So they're capable of doing dangerous things against manhunting animals and bugs, but as with any heat based weapon, enemies running around on fire is never a good thing. Control and predictability beats chaos.

      @hideshisface1886 In mod said that a special type of soldier (Mercenary Marine) has been added, armed with laser weapons. I tested it and realized that this is most likely an incorrectly written spawn mechanic, since this type of soldier appears only with laser swords and nothing else. I haven't noticed any errors in this case, I think it's just an issue in the weapon spawn chances of this current mod. In my case, they also could spawn with Rimlaser laser pistols in inventory but fight with laser swords (I using Simple Sidearms), and very rarely with other laser weapons from Rimlaser.
      I purposefully played with this mod a lot and I can say that it's impossible to get these weapons using the normal methods, they just won't spawn anywhere except for swords. The only absolutely working option to get these weapons is the legendary versions of relics from the Ideology DLC. Or install a mod to craft this weapon.
      A few years ago (and before) there wasn't such terrible spawn. Imperials could often carry ultra-tech versions of laser weapons. This weapon was also available for purchase (miniguns). I remember well that in the usual playthrough I was attacked by deserters and one of them had a laser pistol, which I've got (the game version was 1.4). As far as I've noticed, this issue has been around for at least a year, if not more, even before the release of Vehicle Framework.
