No movie that tells the story of Christmas? What about "The Nativity Story"? That is certainly one of the (if not THE ) finest portrayal of the story of and around Christmas. Everything the producer hits on - Mary's strength, the tension of submitting to arranged marriage, the humorous element via the wise men, Joseph's hesitance, the subdued menace of Herod - are all on TNS but without being "campy."

Adam in the interview said in the early 2000's- which was before THE NATIVITY STORY was released :)

The issue is, of course, The Nativity Story is in fact an awful film.

Yes , but why not another version that appeals to young people and uses beautiful musical scores, dance, humor, gorgeous scenery, inspirational story and acting to convey joy, hope and faith!

Mary and Joseph: A Story of Faith is a very serious take on the biblical story. Very involved, very accurate to what we knew about that historical era at the time. It was released in the 70s. I used to watch it every year on Christmas Eve until it stopped showing on TV in 2007. I wish they would release it on streaming or DVD. I miss it.

Can’t wait to see it. The trailers look great, the music sounds fantastic (another hit for SCC!), the casting is wonderful (you can’t go wrong with an actor/singer like Antonio Banderas!), production values look good, the story is relevant and important, the filmmakers respect the scriptures and utilize the talents God gave them to bring this 2000+ year old nativity story to life in a fresh, fun, new way! I pray it’s a huge success and that God will use it to bless people everywhere and draw them closer to HIM! Celebrate this Brand New Life!

God’s Standard of Glory is established in at least two beautiful scenes in this movie! Hallelujah!!! 👏But, these scenes were offset by two unnecessary false 👎depictions of God Glorious Ways: 1) Gabriel the Archangel’s lackadaisical “forgetfulness” while visiting Mary to tell her God’s Good News, and 2) Joseph’s dream when he saw Mary’s eyes go demon-red and her voice sound demon-low, to say he should not be afraid to marry Mary. THAT IS NOT AT ALL TRUE OF GOD, EVERYONE!!!👎✋🙈
HOWEVER, ADAM ANDERS & MRS. ANDERS DID A BEAUTIFUL JOB MUSICALLY AND AESTHETICALLY to set the ground work for an even more glorifying Love story to come! Plus, the songs, “Mary, You’re Getting Married,” and “In My Blood,” are STILL RUNNING THROUGH THE INSPIRING PLAYLIST OF MY MIND!!!🥳❤️🤴🏻THANK YOU FOR YOUR SOLID ACHIEVEMENT, TEAM-ANDERS!!!🤗👑🤩

Saw this Sunday. Spoiler alert: First of all...EVERY song is a bop. They ALL slap and are amazing.
Here are some issues with this film. This writer...HAS NO IDEA what made Mary great. They made it for modern audiences with girl boss girl power. They COMPLETELY miss the very thing that made Mary a powerhouse of the faith....her HUMILITY! They were so busy making her an INDEPENDENT STRONG WOMAN.... They forget to include....HER CONSENT TO BECOME THE MOTHER OF THE LIVING GOD!!!! "“I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her." Mary's strength comes from her giving up EVERYTHING for the will of God to be done. She risked her life, reputation, marriage, and family support....for God. She died to herself. THAT is strength! But they SPECIFICALLY took out her consent and humility in order to tell a modern day feminist narrative.
The end is just UTTER ridiculousness. Herod's son enters the nativity scene and....MARY stands up to him like a girl boss. Joseph stands up like a weepy mess, the kings all just kind of stand there....the shepherds dont do anything ....but the STRONG INDEPENDENT WOMAN stands up to the powerful destroyer and slaps his wrist and says....No! like a dog that just peed on the rug and he says "okay my bad" and....LITERALLY orders the guards...that realize who the messiah and His family are....to stand down. And they obey.
Sooooo. Herod's troops now know who the parents and child are....see them. let them go..... yet slaughter all the babies anyway after they escape? huh?
heres an idea writer of this movie.... You have this pivotal moment with Herod's son.... and when the guards approach him and say "you found him?" you have the son say "these arent them" and you get the EXACT SAME EFFECT....but this time...its LOGICAL
Even after ALL of that above....I still enjoyed the movie. I am just glad I have a basic understanding of the true narrative of the culture and bible. I dont try to fit the bible into modern worldly aspects that actually hinder the true message. God does not FORCE His will on us.

Yes! I was very uncomfortable with Mary’s character and you explained it perfectly. We are women; there is NOTHING wrong with our femininity, so please stop with the Girl Boss characters! Our faith is our strength. Our humility is our strength. Our meekness is our strength. When we lose our temper and go into attack mode (I’m often guilty of this) it is weakness, not strength.

Ikr! Really disliked how they made Mary a girl boss slay or something. If they wanted to make a girl boss Bible movie, they should’ve went with Queen Esther.. but changing Mary’s personality was really irking
