It's been a while! I figured this would be a good time to bring back Real Thoughts seeing as a lot of people didn't seem to understand my opinion on the Final Shape. Now that I've got more time to edit, I'll try to make these more regular. Would y'all be interested in seeing older Real Thoughts of games that I've missed?

I was one of the people explaining that the ahamkara thing happened during season of the wish. So that expansion basically spent the whole story expansion that you don't HAVE to have consequences when wishing on an ahamkara and that also got fleshed out in the warlords ruin dungeon lore. The consequences come because in lore the ahamkara get nourishment from the difference in wishes they make vs what you specifically wished for so its significantly more common to have consequences when you wish with them but its not fated to happen (Riven's babydaddy and the ahamkara warlords ruin were the main ones we saw not having consequences for the wishes and said babydaddy taught riven to do so and we spend the whole season saving her eggs for her and everyone talking about the pros and cons of the ahamkara being brought back from extinction). I think the whole consequences thing is focused on for a bit of the story because 1 Cayde has been dead so he doesn't know that and 2 Crow thinks using the wish to get in the traveler is what brought Cayde back when it was actually a wish he specifically made talking to Riven (disguised as Mara Sov) that he didn't even realize he made. It was a lore tab on a few cosmetics like a ship and something else. It makes sense if you follow the lore but if you don't keep track of details it sounds like bungie is forgetting stories they basically just told so I'm not arguing that the water doesn't get muddy because more stuff needs to be in the forefront instead in lore cards that are optional on cosmetics and gear when its important context for the story. You're completely entitled to your opinions whether anyone agrees with them or not because thats how opinions work but I figured it should be known that the logic of the wish tracks, bungie is just still bad at giving proper context at important story beats in the story vs. puting it in lore tabs and waiting for the lore nerds to make videos on it and tell their friends to make the story make more sense.

It’s also weird how like, there is honestly great writing in destiny, it’s just in fucking lore books and item descriptions. I’m being serious, go read some of those lore books and they are 10x as compelling and intriguing as any destiny campaign. It’s always baffled me how bungie can hire people that can develop and flesh out characters that we never even see on screen, yet simultaneously make things like the lightfall dlc or shadowkeep or the red war. Like I can go read some random exotic item description and get a full on story beginning middle and end that makes me want more and makes me want to read it again, yet thinking about fucking Curse of Osiris or Destiny 1 vanillas stories makes me eyes roll so far backwards that I look like the undertaker

If we ever get a Destiny TV show with those writers, it will go harder and deeper than the water pressure of the ocean floor. I'd even settle for Destiny novels, like Halo gets every year. I don't mean the Grimoire Anthology books or the Warmind/Forsaken comics (although I bought those, too.) I'm talking about a 300-page cohesive narrative set in this universe.

Honestly I think the biggest problem a lot of people had with your initial vid was the presentation. I play destiny all the fucking time, know all the lore and shit so final shape was super engaging to me, and I liked it, I also love your vids and always tune into your yearly destiny vids cause I find them hilarious, but honestly I think a lot of people as you said really liked this whole dlc and it made them just more emotional than usual. Personally I don’t give a shit cause it’s just a situation of agree to disagree and that’s perfectly fine. So people just aren’t that mature and are too attached to destiny to have a laugh at it shortcomings, and even most of those that are can’t have them present in the ways you do in your vids. Now I’m not really criticizing your vid in any way cause I loved it and thought it was hilarious but I think that’s how those people feel

The echoes are largely unknowns as of right now. Current potrayal is that they're literally just litte power up stars, nothing that comes from the results of our actions or choices (defeating the witness does not count, beating the villain is the ultimate end goal of almost every story, it's the how we get there that matters more than what happens in the end). They're just pieces of the former big bad powering up whoever grabs them because Bungie needs to bring some stories to a close while also juicing up some baddies who wouldn't be tough enough to be a significant villain otherwise.

For a game whose main selling point is being a Space Wizard, that power-fantasy doesn't... come across at all when all that happens of note involves someone who isn't you. You may be the catalyst and receive thanks, but you're *never* addressed by anyone other than the "real" main characters, and from what I've seen of TFS, it's the same song and dance as everything else.
Like at the end of Witch Queen, your Ghost goes on a short speech about Savathun killing *his* friends... not OUR friends, *HIS* friends, because even he realizes that all your Guardian is is a tool for everyone else to use, who barely speaks their mind, who never acts without it involving a gun and a direction. There's literally scenes of your Ghost *cutting you off* to get his word in, and your Guardian just goes along with it because... that's all they know. It's like they write everything with the Ghost as the main character, and the Guardian as their weapon of choice instead of what they do with literally every other Guardian you meet.
Pretty hard to get invested when you're spoken *to*, as opposed to spoken *with*. You're treated like a lackey by everyone else, yet you're literally the reason the *universe* is being saved.

Aren't the consequences of "The Ahamkara Wish" that we had to make a deal with Riven for it, that deal requiring us to protect the remaining Ahamkara eggs which if hatched could fuck a ton of things up?

    • @joshmiller3032
      @joshmiller3032 3 месяца назад +8

      Lore buff here:
It's not outright confirmed, but the popular theory for the Cayde wish not backfiring as most Ahamkara wishes do is that Riven was trying to honor her mate Taranis, notable for being the only known wish dragon to not twist wishes (you wish for a plate of twenty fresh baked cookies, you're getting that plate exactly as you want it), as it was revealed last season that he gave his life to wish for the safety of their clutch. Granting their own wish is effectively suicide for wish dragons.
The egg deal was to fulfill the wish to get Crow into the portal.

    @imperatoriacustodum4667 3 месяца назад +3

This is very long but it's basically just all my thoughts so idk, make fun of my points or something if you want.
Beyond Light started this idea of your ghost and you having differing opinions but willing to see it all through together. And then it went nowhere and ghost was completely fine besides some occasional unanswered questions in witch queen and by lightfall he was happy with you using the dark.
As for the witness...he is like a post-it note that was stapled on afterwards onto another post-it note asking 'how do we end the story?'
Also yeah, on what was said about how the witness doesn't really feel like an enemy you have beef with - crota stole your moon and wiped out thousands of guardians so, even though it's not something you were even alive to see, you still have some kind of beef with him having that knowledge; oryx had beef with you for killing his son and he made that beef very real (also taken king was just an amazing time); I'd say something about taniks but at this point it was just us wanting him to finally die; Siva you have some personal stakes in with the iron lords getting wiped by it and the fallen splicing it in to become a large threat; even the red war has a reason for you wanting to kill ghaul - dude stole your light and wiped the floor with you and everyone else, revenge time; Curse of Osiris you're trying to help a ghost and her guardian; Warmind involves Rasputin so need I say anything else; as mentioned, forsaken is about avenging cayde; shadowkeep is a bit wishy-washy and mostly about investigation and killing everyone you already killed; even beyond light has some stakes in-so-being that Variks caused Cayde's death and that Eramis was responsible for events at the twilight gap; witch queen is another just kinda investigating everything dlc again, but with giant moth mommy and she attempts to protect the traveler; lightfall is uhh...get the mcguffin and final shape is kill the guy we've had no involvement with until sudden plot development.
Can I just say that the back-and-forth we had with the witness at the end of shadowkeep was about the best interaction you have with the guy and should've been done more. The witness needed more time in the oven except he was pulled out just after going in. Same with the dark timeline stuff and how apparently just none of that comes up again. Where's the taking the witness' offer and fighting temptation? I think Bungie, in firing a large amount of Bungie, forgot what Bungie was planning to put into Destiny and so bye-bye coherent plot development. Also seasonal content just progressing plot and then getting deleted so no one in future knows why the cabal are allies.
On will talking about the final mission, I'm reminded of the final bossfight with Curse of Osiris - You're going through fighting the big vex guy and Osiris is jumping in to shield you from deletions and rewrite the simulation to ensure you can succeed. Also again; raid versions of final bosses honestly seem to do better than just mission versions.
And yes, show-not-tell really should be done more. I got fed up just watching a standing model do nothing but talk at you every 5 seconds in the seasons and what have you.
Another thing over the past half year since me and my friend started playing FFXIV, we have said to each other "wow, it'd be cool if destiny 2 did this" or similar. I don't normally like MMOs like FFXIV/WoW but I've honestly enjoyed FFXIV far more in the few months I've played that compared to the past 3 years of playing D2 (and at least I know FFXIV will let me go to Gridania even at the end of Endwalker, while I can't go to Titan anymore. You know another thing with FFXIV - small cutscenes where your character doesn't even make any grunts or anything but will interact with the characters anyway like what's talked about in the video with wanting more cutscenes and things.
On Titan - that's another thing I miss. Adventures. Sure, it was the same adventures every week (some might've been on a rotation maybe?) but it gave you something with a little bit of story to do in the open world without needing to matchmake for a strike or something and they were fun even if it is the 50th time you're fixing the power array for the platform on Titan by taking out all the hive gunk and the wizard.
With Cayde and how we actually played the game with Cayde - yes, even way back with taken king you decide to go with Cayde and steal stuff from Cayde to steal Eris' ship to sneak onto the dreadnought. And another thing about Ikora - up until lightfall, Ikora was actually largely supportive and trusting of others even when no-one else believed them - she believed Eris about Crota and Oryx, she believed and trusted Osiris in CoO, then in lightfall she's like some old person going "you don't know nothing" to Osiris when he's talking about what he learnt from Savathun.
Finally, 2 months back I kinda had a realisation about what I've missed in D2 (that's taken being away for half a year): There's not really been minor revalations that have bigger impressions on the lore than you'd think such as the reveal that Shadowkeep's theme was Savathun's song. Nor do you have the pizzazz of boss reveals anymore. You see the boss from the other side of the room and walk over and maybe there's a flash of light or something and ta-da boss fight. Again with shadowkeep - the nightmares tear themselves into the physical world in front of you, even if you can see them there - or even Oryx's reveal in Regicide, that is still perfectly remembered in my brain.
Btw, I refer to taken king a lot because I consider that Destiny's highest of both games. I enjoyed that campaign and remember it more than the others, the raid was fun, and sunless cell is one of my favourite strikes (not to say that all of the other stuff isn't good, I like DSC for another raid example) If destiny 1 were on PC, I'd buy it for full price, no questions asked, because I know I can play the campaigns through and I know I enjoy it.
Having written all this, I feel like I've just enacted some sort of therapy talking about all of my gripes with D2.

12:50 Even if it was "The Witness has completely taken over and is speaking through your Ghost (like how the dialogue was handled between Calus and the Witness at the beginning of Lightfall) and we kill the Witness to get him out of the Ghost's mind", there would've been a stronger personal incentive to go kill him, rather than the sword of Damacles over the entirety of humanity... Which is basically the same stakes as Red War if we think about it.

I like how final shape ended. It ended in such a way that if i wall away from destiny forever. I would be content. It sucks that the finale didnt give an emblem though! I do agree though alot of the conversation couldnbebcut short but it is WAY better paced than all the other campaigns hands down. I like how the pale heart was structured to be more like a traditional level but i hope that type of stuff remains exclusively for the pale heart. Because lets be real here. It feels like the smallest map outside of mercury and has far less depth. However it plays to it's benefit with the post campaign grind. I sorta liked how unlocking the rest of the prismatic was. I just wished there was more obvious hints. I genuinely whenever possible try to avoid looking up guides but i feel like ways to unlock exotics are being more and more complicated.
The grind for Exohostov is a good way to do it. Everyone took the stroll through the cosmodrome and got khovostov. So curiosity makes you want to go back to that area. Oh you need keys? Ok so you keep that in mind and eventuaply find a traveler ball and a region chest. The chest gets you an item so you KNOW you will have to find all of them, same with the traveler and beating the overthrow bosses is just something you get done while playing. It rewards playing more and gets yoy one of the best ARs in the game. Give us more stuff like that mixed in with the crazy exotic quests

@@Williaso just finished watching your video and as someone who 1700 hours into this game. I totally agree. The fact of the matter is we got a better FS because the community destroyed bunnies bottom line. If Bungie failed to deliver they would have pretty much ended themselves. Let's not forget a year ago they released one of the worst dlcs ever released, layed off several people during the holidays, blamed the community for their faults and vaulted the coolest parts of a stain of a year.
We as a community caused that change but I can already see Bungie reverting back to their old ways. Imma be real. I don't really care what they release next with the campaign. (Unless it has to do with the vex. Still the most interesting faction we know next to nothing about) but I can just smell the scummy business practices. Just like with the season pass- did you know that apparently you actually get less bright dust over the full 3 acts. Also the Bungie store thing really rings true. I ordered a class jacket and it took 7 months to deliver something that isn't even that crazy. Like I don't know if this is a money thing but no jacket should take 7 months to be ready and shipped. Raid jackets???? Screw it- let them just be available! Why are y'all as a company selling a 150 jacket for a limited time and said jacket takes LITERALLY until the next campaign drop to ship. I could complete the raid everyday and probably go over 150 and still not see that jacket
Bungie- no gaming as a whole now is putting too much emphasis on maximizing profit. And I think Bungie is the worst offender. I often compare good gaming practices to monster Hunter. Does the base game have enough base content like monster Hunter? Does the end game make the game more rich?
Does the dlc actually just give back the value of the game and then some yet asking for little back? How is the micrtransaction? Destiny fails at every
Single Front except one! The game isn't worth it without dlc. But the dlc adds little value. The end game does enrich the experience but just barely! You better have a fire team or a party of people willing to run comms for at least 4 hours.
You get what I'm saying. At a certain point I just can't recommend destiny 2. I will die on the hill that is year 4 and witch queen was genuinely the best year to play. But now..the game is just alright. I still love it to death but man. It does not feel good to say that the dlc was only really great because we said we wouldn't buy any more garbage from this company. We allowed FS to be saved. But what about the rest of the series? We still got 3 more episodes and project frontiers. What about that?
Closing thoughts: 8/10 in regards to destiny content. Witch queen was just simply better. Raid was fun, campaign missions were pretty good. Atmosphere was a highlight but man. It does not feel good knowing that we as a community sidestepped the bad ending and just barely.

@@ALLMINDmercenarysupportsystem I can also see that argument but again that depends. Take a look at Joker and Batman, usually Joker is simply put an agent of chaos who ruins Batman's stoic facade. Putting down the Joker would probably save multiple lives in the future yet the intrigue we get out of Batman and Joker's dynamic is how Batman's greatest flaw is being unable to compromise his one belief of never taking a life and in scenarios where he does (which has happened to you can check and I recommend you do, good stories there) how he responds. The greatest aspect of this dynamic we could touch up on is Jason Todd, Batman's second Robin and also someone who Joker had killed but was brought back to life thanks to magic pit. Depending on which continuity you read it changes slightly but Jason's one desire after he comes back is to put Joker six feet under and understand why Batman didn't. Again, this is from a greatly black and white overall conflict of literal demon fighting a vigilante. The few exceptions I can think of are just as entertaining such as The Killing Joke however I don't think it's Objectively the better experience as compared to the quote unquote "status quo" for the Dark Knight

I am yet to watch this, but lemme just say, I enjoy D2 alot. Not because it is perfect, far from it, but because I don't take the game seriously enough. And yes, I do like Gambit, how could you tell
So fuck exo calss items and prismatic I say, I play for fun so that is what my loadout will be :)
I do take breaks though. And I cannot always play as much as I would like. So I literally cannot play as much as others, but that probably contributes to me enjoying it more.
Also fuck fomo, we get better stuff each season anyway and I like my niche stuff more
I get it though. I can see people not liking what the game is now, what the game will be and how the community is sometimes (a lot of times) one sided
On the Story I also absolutely agree. The person I played the campaign with and I were talking about this the entire time, we really wanted to be involved more. The story has so many flaws, so I rarely play the campaign multiple times. The VAs were insane tho
Enemy interaction: A reason for Scourge of the Past being my favourite Raid is literally what you said in the video, the boss could be damaged in multiple spots to "cripple" him. You could shoot the rocket launcher so there wont be a new orbital strike, shoot his railcannon to not get obliterated on sight and shoot the legs so he goes on his knees, therefore not flying around anymore. But I suppose that was just the raid, since those "mechanics" would not be implemented in the normal game
But imagine shooting a gun out of a big enemy and he just goes nuts and starts to charge you because he doesn't have ranged attacks anymore, or making it so that you can trade types to fight. Like if you shoot an ogres eyes he stops shooting you, but becomes alot more aggressive and starts to rush you down? Like Vex where you shoot off the head and they become more aggressive, but why not make it like Brakion, where even the crit changes, or make them change weapons. They had so many great concepts you can see in y1 stuff, but they never implemented on it
I have almost 6k hours at this point, but it wont mean I am right. I just like doing my own weird and stupid thing and here I can do just that. I do get the lack of complexity though, because sometimes I feel that too
So in conclusion, I agree strongly with the points given, I see why it really isn't as great as some people say and why some people hate it for being addicted to it. I just like doing my own thing. I could do it in literally any other game, yet Destiny's Guns and Abilities are so special to me that I find it most satisfying here. Just nothign comes quite close to this imo. And I have played many other games for their gunplay and all that, but Destiny has just that perfect coffee blend for me, you know? But that is only feeling, the rest I don't care about as much

This is similar to what I thought and how it feels like they could have done this DLC good if it wasn’t a DLC with reused assets and instead a full campaign so everything didn’t feel so rush and dismissive

    1. Do you realize the story behind the first Halo and Vanilla Destiny? They had a complex story, next they panicked that it's not going to be PG-13 for casual gamers, then changed it months before release. That a AAA Studio can make things more fun and deeper, but it just makes things more complicated for the millions of people that play the game.
    2. Destiny 2/Bungie is like a big ship. They are set in their ways. They keep repeating the same things because it's safe. That all the 1,000 people working on it are on the same page.
    3. MyNameIsByf just said it takes 8 to 9 months change course. Think of the Final Shape Expansion. All of these things have to fall into place: the story has to be written, cut scenes need to be made, the new environment needs to be built, all the new weapons/armor need to be created, everything needs to be tested to work and not break the game, the music/sound effects needs to be made, the voice actors need to record their lines (as well as the voice actors for the other 20 languages), and having to rework things like after the testing said The Final Shape was terrible. There are many pieces to the puzzle, and most of us aren't game devs. So....
    4. Finally, Bungie can't do drastic change, and not get massive backlash. Bungie has to fear negative press in the age of 24/7 social media.

      1 Yes.
2 3 and 4 I specifically addressed in the video, if you were paying attention.
TLDR because you didn't is that I don't care what the company's excuse is for putting out mediocre content, they're big and they make a lot of money - they CAN do better.

I watched the entire hour and half video, and I don't recall you touching on the specific topics of 2,3, or4.
The size of Bungie, all of the parts of making a game weren't talked about, and the social media size of game studio wasn't gone into.

I enjoyed light fall mainly cause I didn't think about the overall plot too hard and just had fun with friends but I can totally agree with everything in this video.
With episode: revenant Bungie Is starting to do better in the story department (currently at least, I've only played act one so far and it's very compelling) but episode:echoes was absolutely awful storywise.

I used to love both Destiny and League of Legends. I have thousands of hours into both, and I have never fallen off games harder than those two, because they just became stale and boring. It’s so frustrating because I know what they are like when they are good.

I was a huge destiny fan, destiny 1. Played it daily, was end game geared and was running raids. But destiny 2 came out too fast and when i finally decided to hop in a dlc for it was already coming out. It just moved too fast for me and i decided not to hop into destiny 2.
Im afraid if i hop into destiny 2 now, im gonna spend a bunch of money on all the DLC, then the new game will come out before i can finish all the content in time for it.

I personally really liked the campaign- the story was good, the new stuff was nice and we got an ending to a 10 year problem. That's the problem, you had to be there for the 10 years to understand. I can understand where your coming from Williaso, cause even tho I did get a bit mad You trashed on it, I had to also hear it to get my head out of the "this is perfect un every way" cause your right, nothing can be ever perfect. Thank you though for clarifying your opinions- they mostly are similar to mine lmao. Let's just hope the rest of the D2 community in your channel also understands heh.

I’ll be honest my first experience with destiny 2 was during the release of light fall when a buddy of mine convinced me to get into the game by recommending me to get the witch queen dlc which to my surprise i found it fun and so since then I continued to play the game and eventually bought lightfall and was pretty disappointed. I understand and fully respect your opinion on why the final shape is bad. The return of cadye has to be the laziest thing I’ve ever seen then losing him right after his return is extremely bland. My final opinion is that the game isn’t bad but it has the opportunity to become something great (Biggest yapper).

The love the game overall but I get the Criticism...I personally love the buildcrafting, Random rolls and the depth the game can go to along with the raids and dungeons. I enjoy the lore and have had fun with the story how ever flawed maybe..
Also about the last thing....I do not think Destiny is ever gonna die now, they have a 10 year headstart and there are so many little systems in the game which are done way way better than any Live service or Looter. People talked about Helldivers talking away the live service players but it us fizzling out... no one has been able to pump out content like Bungie and sustain the game with an ever growing audience....they have had one of the most played (in terms of Player count) and thrir best reviewed Expansion ever.....Destiny lives on even when rest of the live service game struggle to survive or grow...it is not gonna die any soon.

It may have been bad for you, but that doesn't mean the campaign is bad as a whole. it is a subjective thing and I enjoyed the story beats presented. that being said, I also get why folks may not enjoy it. it really is more of the same just done a bit better. It really is a case of, "if you don't/haven't kept up or cared for Destiny as a whole, then it isn't going to hit for you" But that's just me.

Unfortunately, very little of what you said in the other video is criticism. It comes off as intentionally misleading or mischaracterizations of things in order to shit on something for what you perceive as comedic value. It's honestly just pretty juvenile, and part of the reason I stopped watching your content.
