Very nice explanatory video! Early on, You mention a tutorial You've made, concerning the audio setup. I can't seem to see it in Your description though? The reason for my asking, is due to crackling/distorting sound, whenever the drum/snare, or whatever is playing. This was the case off the top, when I installed FL studio (restart didn't help). I have a creative soundblaster z soundcard. I'm assuming it has something to do with this.. Thx
Hi, Is the master channel of the mixer peaking into the red? If you have any peaks over 0dB it will distort. Please do let me know, We will get to the bottom of this :) Michael
In The Mix If the master channel is located in the top, next to the counter, then no - IT stays within acceptable limits, when I play some of the demos. I don't know if this is a clue, but when i pause or stop the music, there's an echo which very slowly fades out. I just changed the Device from asio to SPDIF-out (Sound blaster z) This improved the sound quality dramatically. I think this did the trick! Thank you for your reply!
how do you stop the sound from chaning when you pick a guitar sound or so, it sounds different when i test it out on the side and different when i insert it?

Hey everyone, I feel disappointed in myself for this having to be the case, but I feel the need to be honest. Life stuff got me down hard during the time I wrote this comment and shortly thereafter, and I allowed time to slip me by, and didn't pursue making music. I know that it's super disappointing, and I feel like I've almost lied by keeping this comment up and letting others see it, but I'm not going to delete it because I know 300+ people resonated with how I felt at that exact moment. Genuinely, I am sorry I let you down. Even though I feel guilty, I feel like being honest here is going to be the most meaningful. I guarantee this - I am going to pursue music one way or another. It is my dream to make art that inspires people and shows them so much of the beauty of life. Even if I let myself slip, that won't keep me down forever. Thanks for asking about how things went, and I will respond to you all in 1 month to see how things have evolved if I remember or if someone is interested. My failure is just that - mine. But I know you all who are passionate about making music have the exact same capacity I do to learn this software. So go do what you love, and I will find my way back there too!
I was dreading getting started with FL Studio. It looked so complicated. This video has made it so much clearer and I can't wait to get started. Thank you so much.
*Just some advice for people watching this video for the first time* I watched this video and tried to use FL Studio and I couldn't work it. Its my third time going through this video and this time I connected to PC to an external monitor and I'm watching this video on one screen and working through exactly what Michael is doing and it is a big help, I'm definitely starting to get the hang of it. Just thought I'd share.
After so many years of being confused and intimidated by this software I finally understand how to use it. I never thought the day would come lol. Thanks for the awesome tutorial!
Ok yeah that's the perfect word to describe it. I've been sitting on it for years and i'm just so intimidated by it. But this video helped more in 17 minutes than i've seen in years.
Being the 1,300th commenter, knowing that this will go down in a void of nothingness: You're blessed with the gift of Tutorialism! I literally don't have anything to complain about, this tutorial is legit perfect!
OMG *THANK YOU!!!* I went through hours of "beginner" guides before I could find this and at least make a simple beat... Only video I've found actually helpful for people started from scratch
I bought FL producer version and despaired. I couldn't even find a menu. No delete, go back and years away from saving. I moved to Cakewalk but found it more picturesque and not the same high end quality. Back to FL and stumbled on these tutorials. This very video is the key to the door. I'm in now and learning. Exactly what I wanted. The snag with this DAW business is the terminology. It's alien to me. Pattern and all the rest of it is a change to everything I called things before and now have a reminder check sheet beside me to help me convert to DAW speak. Turns out I knew what path I wanted to take but it was all coded to FL DAW speak. No samples just constant process routine over and over untill I can confidently open from turning on my computer and swiftly open all required and load (arm, tweak, adjust) basic tunes and segregate to work each channel individually. A life ring flung to me a drowning man in a vast ocean of DAW.. I've now learned to doggy paddle and soon be taking my first strokes to swim. Great fluent articulate tutorials. Subscribed and downloaded as a concise reference. Many thanks.
I can't believe literally no one is talking about how satisfying his voice sounds. Oh shit... I did not realize I got this many replies to my comment cuz youtube did not send me the notifications lmao. I didn't even know I had 1k likes. Also, I get how sus this sounds and you all are telling me to change my comment so it says no homo, how do you guys know that I am not a girl or gay. No homo
Thanks. Last version I used was many years ago. Having just upgraded to the latest version, boy has FL Studio moved on. This video is a fantastic overview, just what I was looking for to get back into it!

This is by far the best FL Studio basic tutorial, I remember when I just started learning, this was so helpful!! I’ve now been releasing edm songs. Thank you In The Mix❤️
@@athrunskye Not at all, if anything your brain will pick out what sounds good and what doesn't. For example, finding out which notes fit into a particular chord (chords make up the basis of most music) - you don't need to even know the notes, just keep experimenting until the notes harmonise and sound good together. I'd recommend going through a piano theory video on YT and making notes, there's a good 2h30 one which sounds looong but it will teach you a lot of the fundamentals of piano. You don't even need to sit through the entire thing to get a good grasp on the basics.
@@quinn9598 do you have link for that music theory video which is 2 hours long? I know lypur had some of the best and comprehensive music theory videos, but they are old and super long.
@Arjun Menon What worked for me was watching other people make beats on youtube, like Internet Money and Kbeazy, and then slowly learn what they are doing. I would learn how to lay down drums on the channel rack and use some loops, and then once you have your drums sounding good start learning how to make your own melodies. Good luck bro!

i've been messing around on a friends FL studio for years, finally bought it. I found your videos and instantly subscribed and have been watching one or two every night, SUPER helpful, chill and clear. Great content, can't wait to watch them all.
I’m amazed how well this is explained. I’ve never heard a lot of these words, but the order and purpose of these menus and buttons makes complete sense. Only a couple other things I need to find out before I can actually make it work, but you’ve got more in depth videos on pretty much everything. Feels like I can finally move forward with making music.
Honestly once explained it's fairly intuitive. Thank you for breaking it down so nicely for us newbies! Can't wait to play with the full version after becoming familiar through the demo!
5 years later and on a slightly newer version, this tutorial still helped me out a ton! Starting to use fl for school and simple music making and this video helped out a lot with getting a simple beat going
I was given FL Studio as a gift in 2011, and up until recently, I was so overwhelmed by the complexity of it that I never got past just using it to multi-track record. I would play with an effect or two on my recordings, but I never touched the piano role or the step sequencer. Never created a pattern ever. Not one. I've watched dozens of videos lately and have learned all kinds of interesting stuff about mic placement, effective EQing, compression, and recording live music in general... but none of them explained the sequencer, and how patterns work like this one just did. I saw the sequencer at the start, but it would quickly disappear (I never knew about 'detaching' something either - I assume that works with Edison too) and I never thought about after that. Now, at this moment, I am inspired! I am going to go make my first pattern! My first beat!! Here I go! Wish me luck.
I've been playing on garageband for a couple weeks and just got the trial of fls. I was worried there wouldn't be any clear tutorials, but yours is perfect. These are going to takes loads of time off the learning process.
footwinner1 I'm so glad I can help, I'm in the process of making a whole FL 20 playlist which you can find on the main page of my RUclips channel. That should help you understand the important stuff. Good Luck :)
Your tutorial videos are amazing. I decided to go back to creating music after 16 years. FL Studio is so easy to get into, but also offers incredible possibilities to those who master it. I am almost done with my first track, but there is so much more to discover and learn. This will be a fantastic journey!
I`ve been using FL 20 since about 2020, that`s when I first started messing around and its always cool to go back and watch these. NEVER TOO LATE TO LEARN MORE!
If your GMS sounds all weird and distorted, click on it, see on the left hand side of the GMS master module it will say "basses" click on the program name drop down menu which lists all the different bass sounds. For some reason it makes the default "Agressive TE" make sure u change it to "Analog Bass 1 TE" to get the same sound as him. Hope this helped!
Thanks a lot! I already made a video of this problem and I was about to post it to the comments, but then I realised I have to check the comments first :)
So far the only tutorial I've seen that takes it slow and doesn't require prior experience to music design. I bought FL Studio 2 years ago and never got into music design because I could never learn the software. Thank you for reeling me back in!
Hi Michael, I just wanted to say a big thank you. I've tried using DAWs maybe 5 times and as soon as I download one, within minutes just quit, being overwhelmed by it all. I decided to try again and dedicate at least an hour a day and sticking with it. Finding this video has been EXTREMELY helpful-you've explained it absolutely perfectly without any jargon or big words that other tutors just don't consider that beginners would not know. After watching this and trying for a couple hours already, I feel like I am less scared of the software and finding it fairly easy to navigate! Thank you once again.
I have no clue about music creation, any of these programs or instruments, but this tutorial made it very clear that even an absolute beginner can start making something of their own. Thank you very much!
Thank you I'm just getting started with FL Studio PC, I'm using FL Studio Mobile for 2 years now. And I decided to get a PC and learn more advanced music production.
Well that was...informative. It's just so much to cram into my head, but I really hope I can remember all of this. I have a bunch of ideas for songs and a couple EDM and Dubstep goals for myself, and I guess I better start learning somewhere. Thanks for the great vid!
Really respect and appreciate people like yourself who give their time and expert knowledge so others can benefit and enjoy music production. Thanks again!
I've been trying to get to understand Music Production and a DAW with a guide that's not made more complicated and this hits the right spot. Great content my man
I watched this a couple of years ago and thought it sounds great if you want to make pop music or whatever, but went off and did sound scape installations and forgot about it. I just returned to it, thinking, lets see I can make a track that seems even remotely interesting and wow, just changed my music horizon! Great work, Michael!
Outstanding, crystal clear and logical! In just less than 20 minutes, you give a clear understanding of FL logic and its intuitive interface. I learned more here than by watching those last days hours of Cakewalk tutorials which just let me confused and frustrated. I will watch your vid a second time then go on with the more detailed ones of yours. Thank you for offering this so nicely!
This has been the most intuitive tutorial I have every experienced. For anything. Seriously. Great job on the video my guy (: Keep em' comin' and thanks for all of the help!!
i love the way you explain things. for some reason, my brain is weird and when i don’t understand things it can seem way too overwhelming to take in information properly without having some proper guidance. anyway i’ve watched multiple beginner tutorials for FL studio but none of them really explained them in the way i was hoping for until i found this. thank you so much for the informative content you did a great job

Yes it can - don't despair!
it's finally time. i'm ready to learn.
Let’s go!!!
So... how's it going?
Lol when I start I go save and I have to at least spend 100 dollars so it doesn’t delete
Tell us how it been!!

Does knowing how to play musical instruments necessary?

Thanks a lot!!
