This hobby is constantly evolving. What’s cool about that, is companies like TLR and Associated are always updating their kits and giving the consumer an awesome product. The downside to that, is the model that is the new hotness now, won’t be in a year or two, and the $$ that you put into the current model, you basically won’t be able to give away in a year or two. Something to think about for people just getting into this hobby.
My 4.0 is the most durable car I have ever owned. I have thrashed the crap out of it at the track with some truly nasty crashes and have not broken a single part. I have had mine since launch as well. I have 2 complaints which are the ballcups like you said and also the front spindle pill inserts. The pills break apart after a while and only way to combat it I found is to super glue them to the spindles.
Very informational! Use to race alot but then came kids! Dirt oval, off road truck and sprint car. Things changed so much that by the looks that I got to start over. Like associated but like you said that losi is best bang for your buck if starting over! Wish there was another indoor dirt oval track near! Loved doing that!
love this review so much I bought one! even before i have driven my YZ-2 DTM and built my B6 and XB2. please do a video on what to look for when tuning your car i.e if it understeer do this.... if it has to much squat do this... etc.
I totally agree with you about Randy's car!!! I was in there last week and I was talking with Randy about the new kits and I asked about the new 4.0 (since I currently have a 3.0) and Randy said well try mine! I couldn't believe how nice it drove, It handled so GREAT I really was shocked. His wife did give me a little inside info by telling me that Riley did alot of the setup haha. Nevertheless awesome car, track and owner most of all!
Same thing with my newly buit Eight E 4.0,jumps and lands so smooth. I think you're right, it's the Losi shocks and geo. They just make a push landing car. Only other kit I had that landed and jumped so well, was my serpent spyder. And the 22 2.0 2wd buggy.
Funny you mentioned the ball cups. One 4.0 at the club races last night popped a camber link multiple times. Personally I'm just getting into 1/10 and loving it so far. Traded into a 22 2.0 and it's got me hooked. I would like to try out a current buggy and I go back and forth between a b6d and the 4.0
Love the youtube vids! Keep them coming as often as possible! Can you work in some Nitro setup / tuning tips every once and a while. They are super helpful thx!
The place I don't see TLR doing quite as well, is turf and carpet. They still seem to be "catching up" in that field. But on clay and dirt, yea...they got that area covered.
The 4.0 is awesome on carpet. Frank Root did a lot of the testing and developing at Ricochet rc which is carpet. The carpet setup I think is just for that track
nice to see a review with real world useful run footage, you should race more of the review vehicles and if you'd put the run footage at the beginning it would be great!
Ball cups where popping off often but I stuck with them they seemed to be too tight making them pop off easer. But they have "broken in" now and they don't pop off any more
MX304 It is so infuriating to watch lapped traffic "race" the leaders. First he substantially slowed him down, then he took him out! This regularly happens at our club races.
Happens here too. They don't understand they are a lap or two or more down and still try and hold you back. Or, they get behind you and go off of a jump right when you do and bam...take you out.
I agree... the RD should be calling out lapped traffic... if I was the marshal, I would've held the purple car back for a couple of seconds to give Snyder some breathing room... I would've talked to the driver of the purple car after the race to explain the etiquette... and to read section 5.12.1 of the ROAR rule book
I think club racing is far more important to follow etiquette... not that I would try to get into an argument with the driver of the purple car, but try to explain the myriad of reasons why he shouldn't be blocking, it's for the benefit of everyone to understand and practice proper etiquette to keep the hobby growing... I've seen some clubs fall apart and lose attendance mostly due to poor RD calling... arguments break out on the stand and guys quitting the hobby not even realizing that they were at fault. Jason, I know that's the last thing you were expecting us to see in the video and please realize that's not the ONLY thing we saw, everything else you contributed is greatly appreciated, just unfortunate to see your race fall apart with both a popped link and then the final straw was with a lap blocker... I feel for ya!
Woah. YOU were the first person to ever see the ability to move the diff height, up or down? What an honor that must have been!! (the English language can sometimes be quirky ;)
Really been enjoying your reviews of these kits! The closest track to me has a brand new carpet setup now and I'm getting the itch to get back to it- I haven't raced since I had my B4 years ago. They have pretty good parts support for the 22, B6 and oddly enough, Schumacher cars. The Cougar KC looks very compelling on paper but I can't find many reviews on it. Have you had any experience with it? If so, would you recommend that over the AE or TLR? Thanks!
Love the tires, wing, choice of electronics. The rest... well.... it's TLR. [EDIT: after actually experiencing this vehicle... boy was I wrong. I'm favoring this over the B6 atm! We'll see how long it takes Tekno to change all of that ;) [/EDIT]
Nice review but TLR is lacking, IMHO, for after market parts and support. I have had the "old" Losi buggies and trucks but always felt left out for that after market support. As Jason mentioned, there's a lot of value in that box for the price but that still can't sway me into supporting the marque with a buy. AE continues to get my vote and support until they do something stupid. As always, great job Jason!
i dont know how old most of you guys are here , but back in 1999 when i raced rc cars here on long island , i ran associated and i couldnt get the thing bite in the front . The Losi car even back then was superior to everything , a lot of the low pro , off road 2wd buggys are inspired by the Losi .
Do you think the next 22 is going to be called 5.0 or do you think their going to call it 4.1 like the b6.1? Every new 22 comes out I think how can they make it any better then they do. So another question is how can they make this new buggy any better? If you look I think theirs nothing they can do but add some better turning parts? Even tho the mid motor is a awesome platform, I wonder if they will make an awesome rear motor 4.0 buggy. Well keep up the awesome videos and amazing job at Raw speed. Oh we’re going to be running your clay spec tires at EN Hobbies.
Would you say the 22-4 2.0 is just as worth it? I have heard he front bulkhead or hinge pin block, tend to break and for some reason, they still don't offer an alloy option, but is it just as good?
need help currently i have tlr 22 2.0 looking to upgrade to a tlr 22 4.0 spec racer kit or a rc10 b6d i have upgraded parts from my 2.0 that would fit on the 4.0 i cant make my mind up
I don't understand, brands were going to the captured ball end to prevent popping, but it seems they are going back to a regular ball cup? Why?? The captured ones are way better. The ones on the serpent and my b5m Lite which, I still race with, never popped off. Ever! But I noticed the old style are coming back...wth?
Custom Works,Street Trac. You might have to buy them directly from Custom Works if your shop doesn't sell them. We use to run those indoor on carpet, but they are a street tread
Hi, my name is Paulo. Can you help me with a 1/10 electric kit, I do not have much experience in electric cars. Time ago I was riding with nitro cars 1/8 buggy / truggy, I do not have much information about electric cars I wonder if you can help me? I still have my sanwa MT4 radio. My doubts: Kit-LTR 22, Associated B6 or other? Motor, esq? Servo? Batteries? Tires and wheels? Something else? Thank you very much Sorry, my english is bad
Hi Jason, i'm pretty new to rc racing and I was wondering which kit to get into with a $650 budget w/o a radio. I have a local clay track and a carpet track and i only want one car to take to both and I appreciate your feed back.
@ sicboy83 The purple car did'nt get lapped though. Watch the video again. Jason had the ball cups pop that set him back so far that everybody else was a whole lap ahead of him. Although he did catch up to the purple car at the end, they were fighting to get out of last place.
After watching this i've ordered my TLR 22 4.0. Keep up the great non biased reviews.Love your work

Awesome review! I really appreciate honest knowledgeable reviews compared to the guys that just push products.
i agree the car handles really well........... good review

I am new to the buggy, my buddy is putting this buggy together for me now, thank you for sharing

Think the time for a real track setup is in order. I am new to buggies this video helps me learn. I seem to like the losi setup the best so far.

Great review, Jason.....sounds like if they included HD ball cups it would be a value++
i like your nintendo controller pictures on the back wall. that is really clever
Great review. Wish this was 2 weeks ago. Just completed my b6 build. Lol

Thanks for the details I appreciate your reviews

Looks good. Serpent and xray has similar options in the box.
Ball cups where popping off often but I stuck with them they seemed to be too tight making them pop off easer. But they have "broken in" now and they don't pop off any more
The d-pad on your poster needs to come down a bit. Lol. Great content.
Agreed! Best kit value to date!
That purple car needed to get the blue flag......

We were club racing. It's all good fellas.

The top of the page shows the screw full size
Will you be reviewing the Schumacher KD?
Woah. YOU were the first person to ever see the ability to move the diff height, up or down? What an honor that must have been!! (the English language can sometimes be quirky ;)
I don’t think the people giving you these kits to review will like it, but I’d love to see you compare the 2wd buggy’s.

what is your opinion on a front wing? i put the wide jconcepts wing up front hope to generate front downforce
sorry I got to say it. BOUT DAM TIME LOL

That is a sick little bug

im planning to upgrade from a b5m fl. i race stock , should i buy this or the b6?
This or a B6 for carpet and why? Upgrading from a laydown 3.0

U should come to the 2017 AE race at trackside in Brookfield wisconsin
Can you tell me how to tell if I have a 3.0 or 4.0 I bought a used 4.0 off ebay but it has some 3.0 stickers on it. Im wondering if I've been had.
This needs updated after all the run time and the SR now out. Plus alot the team drivers changes with the chassis flex
Nah....i prefer this car over the SR.
need help currently i have tlr 22 2.0 looking to upgrade to a tlr 22 4.0 spec racer kit or a rc10 b6d i have upgraded parts from my 2.0 that would fit on the 4.0 i cant make my mind up

Great video. Anyway know where to get some decent on road tires for this buggy?
Custom Works,Street Trac. You might have to buy them directly from Custom Works if your shop doesn't sell them. We use to run those indoor on carpet, but they are a street tread
where is your local track ? im looking fo r more indoor tracks in socal thx
would you do the tlr 22-4 2.0 buggy at some point thanks
crunchied8 yes that would be awesome if you did. the 22-4 is a great car which i still race today but I'd live a review on the 2.0
3mm machine screws were never intended to make their own threads in plastic! That's why none of these companies can get it right.
My doubts:
Kit-LTR 22, Associated B6 or other?
Motor, esq?
Servo?
Batteries?
Tires and wheels?
Something else?
Thank you very much
Sorry, my english is bad
i did not like the 4.0 body at first to but it has grown on me and i just like how low it makes the car look
11:37 was that a ballcup that popped off ?
Yup

i hate the ball cups they come off way to easy but hope the fix that good video
Do The new serpent 1/8 buggy
Hi Jason, i'm pretty new to rc racing and I was wondering which kit to get into with a $650 budget w/o a radio. I have a local clay track and a carpet track and i only want one car to take to both and I appreciate your feed back.
Ball cups will be fixed
i just bought another 4.0 car to start to practice driving mod
What class are you racing in? Stock or modified?
Is that a auctioneer or a announcer? Hes just saying a bunch of random stuff.
Dang. It was as close till the purple buggy screwed him racing ghosts two laps behind
@ sicboy83
The purple car did'nt get lapped though. Watch the video again. Jason had the ball cups pop that set him back so far that everybody else was a whole lap ahead of him. Although he did catch up to the purple car at the end, they were fighting to get out of last place.
No truck come on do the tlr truck pls
