Zeke's always been my favorite character, so believe me, I've been thinking about how underrated this scene was for a LONG time. Zeke will never cease to fascinate me.
This is one of my favorite scenes of the whole show when I first read it in the manga. The clashing views of Zeke and Armin are so interesting to me and even though they have completly different views on the meaning of life I can relate to both. It's easy to say that the meaning of life is those little things we do everday but I can't help feeling that our life is meaningless in a grand scheme of things. That existential crisis of Zeke is in everyone at least once in their life, especially for people who are sick and know that they're going to die soon or when we've had a really really bad time. I kinda disappointed watching most of reactors with scene, most of them get confused by Zeke's view and say that he's talking nonsense, maybe because that feeling of being so little and unimportant in this universe has never happened to them yet
Great video. I love this scene so much, so it's nice to see it get some recognition. Armin and Zeke are both top 5 AOT characters imo, and I think this scene represents the true core message of AOT. Cemented Zeke and Armin as legendary characters for me.
One of my favorites too. Armin essentially becomes the main character of aot in season 4 because he embodies an idea that Isayama wanted Eren to seem as if he embodied pre season 4 before learning the truth. Armin is able to appreciate life for its hardships and pleasantries because he seeks to explore it. Eren’s reasoning for exploring the world beyond the walls is to take back what he believes is his own through violence, not for the beauty of nature. Eren uses the “I was born into this world” line a lot because he believes people innately have freedom as soon as they’re born. When other people take that away from him, he fights to take it back. Thus, Eren can’t ever understand the beauty of life because he doesn’t care about it. The world is cruel to him, not beautiful. Eren wants a better world but not for the sake of life. Eren never appreciated those small moments in life which is the exact opposite of what isayama wants people to do. Zeke finally understands this only when he realizes that the only fun he ever had was just enjoying a moment. Armin wants to fight to preserve those moments for others so that other people in the future don’t have to go through what Eren or Ymir did.
I just finished rewatching attack on titan for the 10th time probably last night, I watched it with my gf and I mentioned to her how genius the writing was to me for this scene. Zeke talking about what is even the point of living if in the end is death anyways (I’m 31 and I’ve heard many people say something like this throughout my life), when armin talks about how something so simple as racing his friends brought him such joy; zeke thinks about how much he loved just playing catch- something so simple and others couldn’t relate but to HIM he would like to be born again if he could experience that again. This story has a special place in my heart and as a manga reader for 10 years, the experience waiting month to month and speculating with the community what would happen next was such a good time.
Great video. It's nice to see people evaluate episodes not only because of the visuals or action scenes or drawings, but also because of the dialogues and life issues raised. In my opinion, the conversations between characters are one of the strongest aspects of Attack on Titan, and for me, the most favorite part. Success and prosperity to your channel 👍

You did amazing with this one man, haven’t seen your other stuff, but I can tell this is the spark that starts the fire, you picked out amazing scene that not a lot of people think or care that much about, and explained perfectly how amazing it was. Congrats on your future success
First time i watched AOT was in 2013 or 14 on adult swim as a kid. Glad i found it, zeke is one of the best written characters because he was a good kid at heart. He just never had a chance to grow up normal, in the final few chapters of the manga really emphasize how much pain he had in his heart. Zeke and Eren i feel like are a contrast of Two children who grew up on the wrong side of War.
FINALLY!! A AOT video that analyses the the final arc in a positive manner and not the "why aot ending is bad..." type of videos. Great Job!! P.S- i am a little disappointed they didn't add the other flashbacks panels as Armin was convincing Zeke why life is precious to live for and what freedom is to him.
Yes two of the smartest characters meeting was amazing, when i first saw it in the manga i was ecstatic. And sure enough they saved the day with their brain power combined.
Was so confused at the random glitching. It's like that one ending in the middle of season 3. Also underrated channel bro. I scrolled down expecting at least 10k subs. Definitely subscribing now. Keep up the great work!
you forgot to mention one of the most interesting metaphorical visuals in this scene which makes it even more interesting and fascinating which is the SandCastle Zeke was building. a sand castle is something u make with a lot of effort, hard work, dedication, design, time, energy to make it look like how you want it to look like and you build it with or without external tools; but one wave of the sea that rolls in too deep can destroy it all at once. it is fragile. this is also what life is. it is the accumulation of all these aspects to make the best version of yourself, but it can also be lost in one swish move. be grateful.
Unrelated to the video, but I personally loved the choice of using Chrono Trigger's soundtrack at 1:08, it really surprised me in a good way because I'm not used to other people liking it
Always thought it's underrated how effectively Zeke finnessed the entirity of Marleys military. The crazy thing about that was he was doing that for his percieved 'good' of all the other eldians, including those on Marley that he had fooled. The only thing I didn't like about the writing of Zekes character is how his titan is portrayed as only being able to throw shit. When he was in that giant forest with Levi he could have easily broken off a giant branch from one of those trees and swing it around like a baseball bat. The way they pigeonholed the beast titan into 'if he doesn't have shit to throw he's kind of useless' was a bit one dimensional for how quality the writing in aot is.
Honestly the themes of existence and the meaning of life in aot are so undercooked they’ve been in the show since s1 yet we’re never truely realized until s4 I think half of this is due to the own development isayam goes through when writing the show as him meeting his wife changes his view on aot
But that was already in episode 6. "This world is cruel, but also so beautiful" and just gets more expanded throughout the series. Through Historia and Ymir. Through Carla and Keith. We just get into actual real life raw philosophy in s4.
@ yep that is the exact moment in s1 I was talking about fans of the show fail to address that moment and it’s frustrating since it’s basically the core theme of all of aot
@@arminkir9389 but I dont think its undercooked at all? He tackles the theme through different perspectives througout s1-3. Just survival. Eren giving mikasa a reason to keep on going. Historia finding meaning, even with her history, through ymir. Kenny with the "everyone is a slave to something". The whole bystander episode. Jean finding motivation through Marcel. And in S4 we get introduced to these actual deep philosphical movements we have in the real world. S1-3 is just much more subtle in its messaging.
@ my bad my bad, most viewers didn’t get that point of the choice. People still blindly wonder why Levi chose armin. But it’s exactly as you said. Erwin’s goal ends at the basement and armins goes further than the walls. Another point to note is that Erwin’s plans always involve sacrificing the scouts while armins plans yield little to no casualties.
@@arclite95 this was actually something interesting that they didnt expand on enough imo. a crucial difference between armin and erwin is that erwin is willing to sacrifice humanity to achieve his dream, whereas armin is unable to.
@@arclite95I will join your discussion. Erwin's dream of seeking the truth is not about finding new knowledge, but only about finding proof of his father's theory, while Armin's dream of seeing the ocean is more than that, searching for the unknown and finding new knowledge.

The other option for worst scene is the whole “thank you for becoming a mass murderer for our sake” scene, which is definitely worse but I heard they rewrote it for the anime so I won’t count it.
