FYI these changes were mandated by Sega of America, Working Designs fought tooth and nail to keep them as is, but they threatened not to publish it. This is also why the PSX version was completely uncensored. Different times and Sony wasn't as uptight about naked Barbie dolls.
I'd love to know who was responsible for this kind of thing at SoA. They seemed to gain a weird puritan streak around 94 (see the over the top changes to Streets of Rage 3 for a great example).
I agree. It kind of watered down the CD's efforts at the time. I believe that it had to do with the ESRB movement at the time and fear of having game sales being hindered in america by parents who thought that Nintendo would be more 'wholesome' family entertainment.
This was nearly fresh of the heals of the ESRB fiasco where everyone (Including everyones "beloved" company, Nintendo) decided to throw SEGA under a bus plus I'm certain but not 100% sure but I do think Bernie Stollar started to work at SEGA at this time who was also decided to do some "fantastic" managment.
Hmm. I don't think that Bernie was at Sega of America during that time? (still at Atari since this was the early 90s). I believe that he went from Atari to Sony and then finally to Sega.
I have this on PS1, the Sega CD for it's time was mind blowing. Despite crap like Sewer Shark and Tomcat Alley were fouling up the Sega CD, games like this showed what good quality sound could be like. Before a game like this, we in the US had never seen voice acting of this extensive nature on a console, it really felt like an interactive anime that happened to be an RPG. It and it's prequel truly were amazingly beautiful masterpieces.
fyi there is a really good romhack for sega CD Eternal blue called the unworked version, reverts all the censorship fixes bugs and most of all reverts the cost to save back to saving with no cost from the japanese version. having to pay with magic experience to save was the biggest sin of the working designs port
I loved the necklace i got in my WD PS1 box, but damn they really did just change text for no reason at all sometimes when they localized. I'm not even talking about the jokes they'd add in, even the intro text they added in paragraphs of shit not in the Japanese. Game translation in the 90s was so bizarre...
Before working on LUNAR, the character designer and animation director, Toshiyuki Kubooka, was partly known for his work on Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, a 1990 Gainax series.
Jeffrey Uy u mean there's a psx port of lunar from Sega it started on Sega Cd and the psx is a port of the Sega Saturn version a mediocre port Saturn version. was a lot better
Jeffrey Uy I beat the psx versions and got the Saturn ones they were a lot better one thing that I liked more was the music on saturn, I don't know why it was bad on psx maybe compressed to much

Stolar did not join Sega until the late 90's.
The Voice Acting of the Japanese Version has so much more Soul in it. The Pink Dragon sounds like the Voice Actor of Usagi in Sailor Moon
She actually was in Sailor Moon, but as Diana
Not even close, that's Nishihara Kumiko. The difference between her voice and Mitsuishi Kotono's is night and day, they're nothing alike.

Bloodreign1 Sewer Shark ducked soooooooopp baaaaad lolz. Lunar Silver Star/EB were frigging amazing. I even enjoyed the PS remakes.
Love Lunar Eternal Blue...working on a speed run route for it. The PSX version is good too, but there is just something about the Sega CD version.
I'd say the SCD version sounds better (fuller) than the PS1 version. It seems like some instruments are even missing in the PS1 version.
@@Sugurain Sega Saturn version keep the instrument that you said missing in PlayStation version
Such a stunning display for the Sega CD.

The Lunar artwork reminds me a lot of Sailor Moon.
Lunar Sega CD vs Saturn or PlayStation, please! =D Keep up the good work!
My favorite word that ruby said in japanese is this 10:14 it sounds adorable.

Sounds like that's a bug
Oddly I played Lunar 1 on the Sega CD, and Lunar 2 in the PS. I never played L1 on the PS or L2 on Sega CD. Interesting no?
The arcade-y sound effects in battles lol
The difference is that it's just a cartoon anime. The game is still very nicely done.
Very Best RPG Ever Made Hands Down. Yes, I Am Bias.
Lucia seems to be missing some features

Bobagens..
Did Gainax animate this?

wow, this game looks awesome, but i liked more the part when the characters talk when playing, and not only in the cut scenes.
Huh? I didn't know there's a Sega version for Silver Story from PS.

I check all the other comparison. I notice that Sega Saturn is graphically better than psx.
i loved this game
The main difference is the text is different
sometimes usa versions just have to get the thing.
I find it stupid they sensor tigh gap in USA hahaha
hunh I could have sworn it was a kids to adult rating. in 1994 what do you expect this is the esrb rating.
It was K-A
This looks better than the PlayStation version
They murdered the PlayStation versions so much, it's unbearable to play, it might hurt the console.
Vic Ireland catering to the justice crowd
censorship ends at 4:16 lol
swiv super nintendo (super swiv) vs sega genesis (mega swiv)
s31.postimg.org/tqjqkw5nf/Damn_Deal_Done.png
Rated E for everyone...
You know, I thought it was a "T for teens" title, but you're right. Checked the box, and it was "K-A kids to adults"
so, my favorite one is american version, so i don't understand japanese.
Am I the only one is does not like nudity in games?
I am also dislike it because I think it's a cheap trick for lazy artist ti attract people.
