It's just a blessing that the mediocrity of the titular film doesn't tarnish the song. Christopher Walken playing Christopher Walken mitigates somewhat but for every CW you've got a Grace Jones and a Tanya Roberts. Gratuitous miscasting abounds. Hey Michelle . I grew up with Duran Duran @ the High School Disco . They were such an innovative band in the early 80`s and still going strong now in the 21st Century .
One of the members of Duran Duran was a huge Bond fan and while drunk went up to Cubby Broccoli and said "When the f&^k are you gonna get a real band to do a Bond song for you?" Hence came this amazing classic. Amazing what happens when you put talent and respect for the source material together.
That was John Taylor, He was also the one who did not want the song remixed or extended to keep it pure, he stated he regreted not having it remixed. But the group had secretly gone behind his back in 1985 and made a remix/extended mix. But it was never officially released. until few years ago it was put out on a bootleg album as 12". It has a few differences to the single/movie version. Different chords in one place & and the Drum beat is slightly different. Probably remixed from original demos or first cuts of the song (when John wasn't around) so that remix sounds like a rough cut but Still sounds good.
I've got to be honest - I'm not a huge Duran Duran fan. But i have always loved this song. It is the best song of their career in my view, and one of the very best Bond themes. 10/10
