And those green arrows at the free throws 😂 brings back so many memories, not to mention the actual parks and gyms they had in the game like Rucker, The Cage, Venice Beach, Fonde, Franklin Park, etc… later in 2k1 and 2k2

Like the Dreamcast itself, 2K Sports hit that generation with a bang. Those games were awesome for 1999. NFL 2K OBLITERATED Madden 2000. And yeah, NBA 2K was a step up from NBA Live...easily. They did what EA needed: Provided competition. And for a while, that company rose to the challenge. We know what eventually happened.

My friends and I put hundreds - maybe even thousands - of hours into this game as well as the 2 Dreamcast sequels after it. I hadn't touched a 2K game in several years, but just recently played 2K22, and honestly.....while it looks gorgeous, I think I enjoyed this game much more. One of the biggest reasons for me personally is that when we played this back in 99, we all created our own players and teams, we almost never used real life players, and we had a blast coming up with the most ridiculous creations possible. I remember I made the smallest player the game would allow, named him Flea, after the RHCP bass player, and of course I made him a center! lmao
The level of freedom this game had for creativity was unmatched, and in 1999, felt like a dream come true. The more modern games seem to have stripped away that level of control. Like in 2K22, you can create your own players and teams still, but - unless I'm completely stupid about the game - it's significantly harder to just get the players you want on a team. In this game, you just selected the players you wanted for your team, and that's it. But in 2K22, you have to go through a million steps to get them on the team you want, and then you even have to mess with the myleague settings to KEEP them on that team, or else they might get drafted/traded by another team.
I don't know, I guess I'm just frustrated with how the newer games always seem to overcomplicate things, but in its time, this game was absolutely mind blowing to me. And even though the graphics are obviously dated now, the game itself stands as one of the best sports games ever made.

NBA 2K was a huge leap forward, but NBA 2K1 was where they really added depth to the game. Improved animations, improved AI, more modes, better visuals. The Dreamcast is the greatest sports game console of all time. It cannot be overstated how much of a step up this was. When it came time to shoot free throws at our house… we’d click the Left and Right triggers and bounce on the couch yelling “Miss It Miss It” like it’s a college game …. Man, the good ole days were great…

I got this on my phone, there's a glitch when shooting a free throw where you can switch player and catch the ball like an alley oop and score 2 points

I spent hours playing NBA and NFL 2k. The golden era in sports games before microtransactions and corporate consolidation.

This game was awesome when it came out but it has aged. Still I agree this game is revolutionary and it is a 6/10. Not bad but prefer 2k1 and 2k2 on Dreamcast. Feel like those games aged better.

It seems like games as a whole aren't where they were but the first 2k was a success I think. The fun factor was the selling point now its getting a system thats hard to get then an expensive game then micro transactions out the butt or else your gonna be behind. I miss the days of fun and still you know something is missing when fans go back to classic games instead of today's copies.
