Do you know what those little dots are? They look like pimples.

I do. These are encapsulated parasites. These have multiple life stages probably consumed as eggs inside insect larvae or small crustaceans. They are then born inside the intermediate host. They have a impenetrable shell that our wormer medicines cannot penetrate. Ultimately the fish that is infected with these needs to be consumed by another animal. Only then will the worm hatch out of this encapsulated state infect the final host and then lay eggs to complete the life cycle

Thanks for the reply! Man, do you know the scientific name of the parasite? Two of my 9 wild Altums have them. I tried to scrape the off with razor blades in the beginning, but they are really encapsulated and basically impossible to get to! After I knew it was impossible to remove without causing severe damage to the host I basically left them alone. So they will probably have those parasites forever in ou tanks, right? I would think that eventually the parasites would become weak and fall off to their death to the bottom of the tank? Do you have any Altum that lost those parasites after a while? Let me know if you know the scientific name of the parasite. Happy Thanksgiving!

@@Alex_Correa the scientific name of these parasites is irrelevant. Since they are using the fish as an intermediate host they can never hatch out and manifest so therefore they don't cause any damage. Just leave them alone and your fish will be fine.
