Thank you for this video. I use to watch The Little Rascals when I was a child. I am 68 now. They were amazing actors. Darla was such a darling little girl. I loved them all
Growing up; while watching the "Little Rascals" I always admired how Darla , was so smart and pretty! Alfalfa, loved her so much and I believed him! lol She could never let us down! Her acting and humor kept us entertained! The sparks in her beautuful eyes, will always be remembered! R.I.P. Precious Darla..🙏
In the picture of the whole gang, the little girl sitting between Darla and Spanky is my mother! She was featured in the episode called "Little Papas". She was in several publicity shots of the gang, as she was a member of the cast from 1936-1939! Mom's name is Julie Jane Brennan, but she's often tagged as "Baby Jane" (now you know What Ever Happened to Baby Jane)! Mom passed away 8 October 2017 at the age of 84!!! Thought you might want to include her in your documentary series of the Our Gang Comedies kids.
I moved to Denver in early 1979. By chance, a friend and I had stopped in a small Piano Bar adjacent to the Capital Bldg. called "The Senate Lounge". The marquee outside said "Bob Middendorf on Piano".Too our surprise, Darla was at the piano at the time! I didn't know it, but Middendorf told me whom she was.Shortly after, I found myself sitting at a table with Darla having a great time!I didn't talk much about the Rascals, we had a normal friendly time. The liquor and the laughs were flying and it was one of the most memorable moments ever for me!Unfortunately I never got to see her sing and play again, as she became ill and passed on soon after. She was a lively, talented woman and I am glad I had that chance to get close and personal with her.I too watched the Rascals when I was a kid...but they were re-runs! Im 57.Thanks Jerry!
So enlightening and informative. Also so sad, that our beloved Darla passed away so young. Thankfully her memory will live on, whenever we view "The Little Rascals." Thank you so much for posting, and the Mozart background music is beautiful!
Thanks so much Jerry! In the 50s the local ABC TV station showed these wonderful films and I still love to watch them online when I can find them Also grew up with the great comedy masters, Laurel and Hardy. You do a wonderful job Jerry!
Thank you for putting this biography of Ms. Hood on here. As a kid, I used to watch Our Gang and couldn't wait for the next episode to come on. Always will have fond memories of this show.
Darla was such an adorable child. I remember her singing on the Little Rascals🎶🎶Oh babyyyy, where did you get those eyes🎶and tap dancing with her little legs Lol. Cutest thing ever! Rest Peaceful Darla🌸

OMG, Jerry thank you so much for sharing this video with us people who like watching RUclips. I never knew that she was so young when she had passed away. She was such a wonderful actress as Dolla in the little rascals. I never forget her or the little rascals thank you so much for bringing me back to my childhood days !
Darla was so cute and sweet. All the other kids were kinda screwy, but she was just like the sweet little sister for all of them. Thanks Darla! (Love the shot of the Mike Douglas Show!)
My favorite show in the late 60s... I saw an interview with Spanky, he had retired and was working for Texas Instruments. Stymie Beard appeared in 2 episodes of Sanford & Son.... R.I.P. Darla...
47Ronin No Stymie was in AT LEAST 3 episodes of Sanford & Son. 1) Traffic Ticket, 2) This House is not a Pool Room, and 3) Social Security Check are the 3 that I can think of right off the top of my head.
When the only person I ever married told me that her first and middle names were Lynn Darlene, I decided I'd call her Darlene (because she reminded me of Darla Hood.)
Darla cut several singles for two small record labels but the truth is none of them actually became hits -- largely due to those tiny labels' inability to promote and market them adequately. Darla and I were both members of the "Way Out West" tent of The Sons of the Desert, the Laurel & Hardy appreciation society, and I'm happy to relate that Darla as an adult was just as charming as she had been as a little girl. Her problem, as this video alludes, was that few casting directors would hire her once she grew up and out of childhood roles -- even though she would have been both excellent and beloved in a '50s, '60s or '70s TV sitcom.
I absolutely love the way Jerry Skinner presents here’s biographies. They are just so warm and sincere. Thank you Jerry scanner. Earl Marshawn Washington. Artist b. 1962
Thanks. The "Gang' was my after school babysitter and everyone watched them. Loved the Shows, the silly kid's versions of the grownups' world, and Darla.

What a lovely update on Darla! I so enjoyed the Little Rascals. It brought me so many hours of entertainment; my family enjoyed it so much that we named two dogs after the characters. Thank you for posting.

+kenneth manning See me and you on the same page we got to watch the original Little Rascals when we were kids in the late 60's -70's We grew up with that stuff Love it!!!! . But Sorry I don't like the way Bill Cosby (about 20 yrs ago) bought the rights took the Little Rascals and edit them (which he claims was the racist parts) out and turn them into something else But If you have the original ones on video keep them cuz they're the best!!
Paul C wow!-I didn't know that I love little rascals til this day.and its racism in everything also so thst was wrong for him to do that.and I do have a collection on vhs not sure its the entire collection.do you know if the original ones can be found?.I sometimes run across them at thrift stores are pawn shops.all the video's places are long gone
+kenneth manning Me too love em!!! and yes they was very racist back then, Then when was Bill Cosby bought them he took all that stuff out!! (BOO!! on Him!!) There was one episode where is Spanky painted his face black with shoe polish Well Cosby took it all out claiming it was racist. Yes you can get the originals at thrift stores and Salvation Army's on video only I think I would not think he would have put them out on DVD Unless some one had the org vhs tapes & did it them self's. I don't know what year he bought them you have to find out , But I know they came in a big box set at one point..
Paul C ok thanks but me personally it wasn't racist to me.just talented kids making millions laugh.and I know we've both heard people say im so glad I did this I did that.old-school music.but im soooo happy millions of us grew up knowing of the little rascals and our gang movies

Thank you for the lovely video and dialogue about Darla. As a child I had always admired her from Our Gang series on TV, and sad to learn how her death had happened at such an early age.
The first girl I had a crush on when I was 5yrs old watching those little rascals re-runs in 1961. My 2nd crush was in 1962 with a girl in my1st grade class. She looked like Darla's twin sister! What's even weirder, her name was Carla! Really, and she lived 2 blocks further down on my street. In those days kids, some may remember, could walk to school safely. I finally convinced her to let me walk her home. Even though I had to back-track those 2 blocks every day to get home. It didn't matter, I was in puppy-dog heaven! I still love you the most Darla. 💕
Aww darn, she die young too, not as young as a few of the other Little Rascals Froggy 16 being the youngest, but still, she turned out to be a beautiful woman indeed. Thanks for sharing this video, I didn't know anything about her, until now :)
My dad said Darla that played on the little rascals ,taught a music class at wilkes central high school in wilkes county while he was in school. My pops graduated in 1970.
I remember talking with her at our orange county laurel and hardy fan club dinner . I think it was about a year before her untimely death. What a sweetheart she was. I will never forget that .
Interesting video. Loved the Little Rascals growing up. Will still watch them if I happen to come across them on tv. She did turn out good looking but died too young. Interesting picture of her on tv show. Looked like she was along with Yoko Ono and I believe Neil Diamond.
I am glad they figured out that it was the blood transfusion. Can you imagine how many times a death was over transfusion that no one may have known was diseased/virus in it... I am glad we have better understanding and more testing in the medical field.
Its also a bit depressing that I almost felt relieved to hear she died of a medical mistake rather than being chewed up by the Hollywood machine as happened to so many actors who died young in that era. At least she got to enjoy some semblance of a normal life post Rascals.
My dad's cousin played Waldo (Darwood Kay)on Little Rascals and he really liked Darla. Oddly several of the Little Rascals died tragically as did Waldo. He was walking his dog on a sidewalk and a pickup truck came up on the walk and struck and killed him.
Thank you SO much for sharing these memories with us all. My ABSOLUTE favorite "Lil Rascals" is the one titled "Second Childhood". Again, MANY THANKS !!
Thank you for putting this video together. The Little Rascals will live on in the memories of those who watched, and hopefully, the younger generations who will see it on film. They were and are a great influence.
Ive only seen about a half dozen Gang/Rascals shows. But the one I remember the most was Darla singing a song("Im In The Mood For Love" I think) and the mic stand slowly sliding downward. But she stayed with it all through the song.
Wow,So much done in so short a life & time,a simple blood transfusion, that`s very sad because that transfusion didn`t even save her life, instead it actually took her life away, very sad, enjoyed the many shows i`ve seen her in though & i can always remember those little rascal episodes,we loved her because she was the only girl & we were/are girls/women lol. Much Gratitude to You Jerry for sharing these with everyone as we enjoyed "taking the walk" with you!
I always thought that Darla looked like a doll. And personally, I thought she sang even better than Shirley Temple. Her family should had sued that hospital.
doingstuff76 It’s not about any of those things...it’s about making the hospital hurt enough to never want to make that mistake again. Keep in mind hospitals are corporations, and although they may care about their customers, they don’t care so much about improving the quality of their product *unless* they lose a big chunk of money. Then they understand that it’s important to not cut corners...at least, not ‘that’ particular corner.
I love these cute kids they were kids in the depression They lifted people's spirits
As an adult I realized that these children were like my parents.
She brought joy to billions as a child actor/singer in The Little Rascals. God bless her.

Thank you. That was a beautiful tribute to wonderful woman.
Interesting video. Loved the Little Rascals growing up. Will still watch them if I happen to come across them on tv. She did turn out good looking but died too young. Interesting picture of her on tv show. Looked like she was along with Yoko Ono and I believe Neil Diamond.
I remember seeing that Mike Douglas show. I totally forgot that was the week John and Yoko were hosting. Now, I really wish it was on DVD.
I am glad they figured out that it was the blood transfusion. Can you imagine how many times a death was over transfusion that no one may have known was diseased/virus in it... I am glad we have better understanding and more testing in the medical field.
I kinda hate I watched this. Very sad ending of her life and yes she was beautiful.
me to , to much sad thing, dont worry 4th dimension time travel will change it
Same with me me, i was saddened when i heard about it just right after i graduated from school.
Its also a bit depressing that I almost felt relieved to hear she died of a medical mistake rather than being chewed up by the Hollywood machine as happened to so many actors who died young in that era. At least she got to enjoy some semblance of a normal life post Rascals.
Thank you for sharing this Mr. Skinner. Darla, Spanky, Buckwheat, & Petey were my favorite "Little Rascals"!
HELLO JERRY I ALWAYS ENJOY YOUR SYORIES AND THE PEOPLE YOU REPORT ABOUT KEEP THEM COMING SIR!!!!!
My dad's cousin played Waldo (Darwood Kay)on Little Rascals and he really liked Darla. Oddly several of the Little Rascals died tragically as did Waldo. He was walking his dog on a sidewalk and a pickup truck came up on the walk and struck and killed him.
Amazing Jerry, thanks for the leg work. I have always wondered about her. I did not know she was dead. You do great work! Thank you much!
bain5872 Thank you bain for watching. Jerry
Jerry, You are so talented. Thank you for another lovely video.
I loved the little rascals, god bless them all.
Thank you SO much for sharing these memories with us all. My ABSOLUTE favorite "Lil Rascals" is the one titled "Second Childhood". Again, MANY THANKS !!
Such a talented pretty little girl. RIP Darla.💗✝
Ty for this info ,,so sorry she died so young ,leaving her 5 children.....may She RIP...XO LOVED THE LITTLE RASCALS..
Thank you for posting this. I was a fan as a kid.
I grew up with and watched The Little Rascals. I'd give anything to be back in those times. Great video.
47? Damn. That is WAY too early to leave. God bless her and her family.

***** Darla was a real sweetheart. Whenever I watch these films those wonderful kids that I grew up watching are all alive and happy.
That's how I feel too.
What the fuck does suing a Hospital get you? It doesn't get you shit nor bring her back to life you dumbass
@@doingstuff76 shut the fuck up... dipshit
doingstuff76 It’s not about any of those things...it’s about making the hospital hurt enough to never want to make that mistake again.
Keep in mind hospitals are corporations, and although they may care about their customers, they don’t care so much about improving the quality of their product *unless* they lose a big chunk of money.
Then they understand that it’s important to not cut corners...at least, not ‘that’ particular corner.
Jerry, your videos are some of the very best.
