    It’s amazing how powerful this raspberry pi is to play any game on ps1, meanwhile Sony themselves can’t get good emulation for their PlayStation Classic.

    • @apollolux
      @apollolux 3 года назад +6

      Reports were that the PlayStation Classic was essentially a stripped down Pi (IIRC Pi 2 or similar hardware) running a weaksauce build of PCSX-Reloaded. Once the thing was hacked, however, the replacement improved the device's capabilities significantly.

    • @johnboydojo
      @johnboydojo 3 года назад +4

      Playstation mini classic can play everything. Just bad choice of emulator when in stock

    • @Sevarrius
      @Sevarrius 3 года назад +4

      Yeah the hacked version is a surprisingly decent emulation machine 'almost' comparable to a Pi 3. It's also extremely easy to hack, requiring only a USB stick that doesn't alter the original config. I picked one up brand new for £25/$34. Probably worth at least that just for the cool PS1 shell. I should have picked up a few more at the time cause they've shot back up in price again since.

    I think this is really cool!! But, if the person that did the 3-D printed parts would just make a 3-D printed PS1 case….maybe without the unnecesary plastic inside mounting parts which might give the cables a little more room….then he could sell the WHOLE thing as a kit and that would be super “wicked”!!! Esp if that person made the case for the RasPi4, and maybe even made a correct way to mount a cooling fan, that would really be “wicked” and you wouldn’t have any “brain farts” in the process of assembling it.
    YEEAAAHHHHH!!!!! ;-)

    This is good. I did the same thing to bring into jail ( Canada ) cause you could only bring N64 or PS1 are latest consoles. I modded and brought inside. Had 8000+ games
    I converted the controller ports so I was able to use actual PS1 controllers, and used HDMI to RCA converter so it would use RCA in back of console. Even made power button work with it. It was work of art really

  • @FryazinoStation
    @FryazinoStation 3 года назад +3

    Wow, this kit has been around for 4 years at least, and this is literally the first RUclips video of it in action that I've seen (minus the kit creator's building manual of course).
    I've had the same PiStation for several years, and though there were other console-shaped cases, I chose this one because it's inside the original PS1 and holds so much necessary sentimental value for me. The only thing the kit could have added is some kind of internal HDD bay - a good PS1 roms collection would need all the space it can get.

    • @oligould8575
      @oligould8575 3 года назад

    Why not just put in one pair of usb ports on the left (leave the OG right controller port in for aesthetics) and plug a USB Bluetooth dongle in to one of the ports and use cordless controllers? Also, without that nest of USB cables inside, you'll have better airflow.

    This is really cool stuff, but one of these days I hope there’s a build that retains the original controller and memory ports + optical drive, maybe with some shell scripts thrown at the software for working with real PS1 discs or CD-R backups

    • @MrFlapTrack
      @MrFlapTrack 3 года назад +1

      one could simply buy a(2 ) ps1 usb adapter for the controller and/or memorycard ports and then solder it to the original controller/memory card ports inside the ps1 to retain it... I've done it myself a long time a go with a banana pi... but as for the optical drive i don't really have a real solution other than maybe dissemble a optical drive for a pc and replace it with the original optical drive inside the ps1 and hook it up with a ide /sata to usb adapter maybe... That could work especially if one had a 3d printer with some 3d modelling knowledge/experience.

    • @LumberjackLuigi
      @LumberjackLuigi 3 года назад

      @@MrFlapTrack That would most likely be the way to go. Imagine having a PS1 raspi that “just knows” how to handle discs like the original console, and boots to a custom (PS1 BIOS-inspired) menu when the drive is empty, so you can run games off microSD as well. All the pieces are out there, you’d just have to fit them together and maybe do a bit of programming to smooth out the edges

    Ik heb nu ook het idee een originele PS te maken met behulp van een Raspberry Pi. Alleen die van mij gaat veel authentieker zijn dan deze versie. Je kunt bij die van mij dan echte ps1 controllers gebruiken en ook de originele disks afspelen. Dat is mijn doel. Ik had gehoopt dat Sony de PS5 backwards compatibel zou maken door middel van disks, maar dat doen ze niet. Ook de ps classic was een ware teleurstelling. Dan zijn er nog van die mensen op internet die de console zo modden dat ze allemaal dingen op het moederbord moeten gaan solderen om tot hetzelfde effect te komen wat jij eigenlijk nu bereikt hebt met een Raspberry Pi. En dan vervolgens iso's gaan afspelen op dat ding. Wat is dan de functie van de playstation nog? Ik wil geen menu's zien of rom lijsten. Die van mij start op als een PlayStation en gedraagt zich als een PlayStation. En draait enkel Disks af. Doe je er geen disk in, dan kom je in het bubbeltjes en memorycard menu terecht. Stop je er een disk in, dan gaat hij die automatisch afspelen net als een echte PlayStation zou doen. Dat is mijn droomproject. Daar ga ik vanaf aankomende maand mee aan de slag. Ik hoop dat me het gaat lukken met bijna geen kennis van programmeren en dergelijke. Het zal een moeilijke taak worden voor me. Dus ik ben benieuwd hoe ver ik ga komen! Deze video's inspireren me wel. En geven me vooral de motivatie een versie te maken die wel authentiek is.
