When throwing the first die, there is only one outcome that is useful (1), and there's a 1/6 chance of getting that number. Once you have that number, there is, again, only one outcome that is useful to make the 2 (1 again), which also has a 1/6 chance of occurring. Since you need a specific number on the first roll **and** a specific number on the second roll, you multiply the two probabilities together, which gives you 1/36. You can try this out for other numbers to get an intuitive feel for how this works, which (at least for me) is incredibly useful to get an edge on the competition on games that use dice >:)

I really don't think he was playing a trick though! I figured out how to do that black crystal ball thing by having a sword tornado attack and hit all four of of them while in the center. It took awhile though, but I loved that game.
