Hey Mossman my dad had a 40-H , first one in the Northwest! boy I miss the smell and sound of that bugger!! I am trying to locate any film footage of any working 40-H, hard to find tho, great video!
i remember my uncle had a 15H which i believe are very rare. I can remember they let me run it once when i was about 5 years old. it took everything i had to move one lever at a time.
ely miller They are already uploaded. You can go to my channel and look at my playlists. Click the cranberry marsh work playlist and you should be able to find the videos. I think I have 4 or 5 other videos of it in HD quality.
My dad has been running this excavator for 9 years or so. Track is a little worn out but it still gets the job done. He had more than one person tell him it would only last a couple years or so.
Probably won't get a restoration but you never know. I have one more video of it and plan to get more this summer. I might be able to get my dad to show everybody how it works.
backwoodsman I don't think BE was ever king in the small excavator market. They ruled the large mining excavator market though. When CAT decided to enter that market they decided, if you can't beat em, buy em! So CAT bought BE and thus ended its illustrious 100+ years of excavator excellence!
Wow nice machine sounds great! Any plans for a restoration? Btw great operator, thats how its done! Runnin a machine like that is a skilled art that not many people have! Would like to see more vids! Maybe one showing how to run it?
Mr. Mossman are you going to retire that machine? In another one of your videos you stated that there would probably be no more vids of her, I was wondering what you meant by that. Thanks
Does anyone happen to know what the smaller 15H (or 15HT) model was powered by? I've been looking all over for information on that machine and found nothing so far.
@@dalemarshall625 From what I was told, the controls would bind up or something. It’d just keep continuously spinning in circles until you shut it down.
it's actually not that bad once you get used to I drive Euclid old off road dump truck with a detroit I thought it was going to a problem like you said I like the sound not sure about all day though he does have his running pretty hi but Detroit like to be run at higher speeds well it's better for them anyway
+mossman381 Just as a side note, a 4-71 Detroit is a 2 stroke design. That and the `blower`( supercharger ) is where that ear splitting engine noise if comping from.
+mossman381 Yes, General Motors seemed to like that 2 stroke, or two cycle principle for some of their engines. Every stroke is a power stroke, you see . The 'downside' is that racket, especially for a bystander.
More faster and badass sounding than other excavators!! THESE are the ones that should be still made today!!
Nice machine! Love that Detroit sound.
I have a few videos of this machine. Check my channel for others.
@@mossman381 will do!
Been around many screaming slobbering Detroit’s most of my life. My ears will be eternally ringing till I hear no more.
Thanks for posting...takes me back!!
What a crazy engine sound! Holy... Nice catch. Is that machine four years later still existing?
+Benjamin Beytekin It is still working today. It is our machine and I have better HD video of it if you look in my channel.
mossman381 Excellent!
detroit diesel two stroke 4-71
He is one Hell of a good operator!
Thanks for the upload.
Really these machines can go on and on as long as they are maintained. Great Stuff.

Love the screaming Jimmy, neat old excavator.
Yup, it is a 4 71 Detroit. It sounds awesome doesn't it?
Nice! I know where there’s 2 of them. They’re not for sale.

I'd like to own a "dinosaur" like this! Amazing!
I owned one it is a strong machine slower than hell and the air over hydraulic controls will work your ass off. Love the screamin detroit.
I have other better videos of it if you want to see more in my cranberry marsh work playlist.

joe have abucyrus erie 20h excavator would like to where can i find the hydraulic filter on this 20 h
@@spullay it’s in the rear hydraulic tank on the left side of the machine
Boy I'd love to restore an old machine like this.
This machine is not restored. More like a survivor.
Thanks, going to get some more videos of it and our other equipment soon.
Not a gravel pit. We were just letting the water out of our cranberry beds. We were going to flood them last winter but never got to it.
Probably won't get a restoration but you never know. I have one more video of it and plan to get more this summer. I might be able to get my dad to show everybody how it works.
Awesome video of a great old machine!
How to control the 20h? What are the functions of the levers?
Back when operator cabs might be on either side of the machine.
great to see old machines running in the seventies BE was king what happened?
backwoodsman I am guessing they were bought out or didn't stay up with technology.

Can't help with any video of a 40-H, but I do have more videos of our 20-H. You will find them in my cranberry marsh playlist.

Dad scrapped this machine. I don't even want to think about it because we have fought over this subject over and over.
Nice fast cycle time too.
Dad is pretty good with it.
O.M.G another old `screamin`jimmy`` that operator will think he`s deaf, when he finishes that shift.
+Reg Sparkes It's not that loud in the cab. The motor is way in the back.
Music to my ears...
Does anyone happen to know what the smaller 15H (or 15HT) model was powered by? I've been looking all over for information on that machine and found nothing so far.
No, man, I mean when you start swinging around you can let off the controls and it will keep swinging by itself lol
Now thats what I call old school
I don't think the turntable lock works on ours either.
I have more videos of it in my cranberry marsh playlist.
Good lord I'm glad I don't have to listen to those noisy things anymore.
+Ron Peterson I'm with you on that one. just think about how many deaf equipment operators and truck drivers there are because of scream'n detroits
Very fast for an old machine.
A guy I know has a 20H, it's so worn that when you go to swing it doesn't stop
They don't have swing brakes it's a free swing machine like cranes
@@dalemarshall625 From what I was told, the controls would bind up or something. It’d just keep continuously spinning in circles until you shut it down.
Look up "Sesame Street Steam Shovel" on YT. This has a vid of a 40H; in NY City I believe.

They are suppose to be revved up that high.
4 71 Detroit?
Sounds like a Detroit Diesel.
That thing can move dirt just as fast as a 2019 machine of the same size....just saying..
Dad was pretty good with it. It did a lot of work for us.
I love me a detroit but I think i'd be sick of that in about half a day
Jeff Lowe Dad has been running it for over 10 years.

2 stroke diesel engine?
Hans Nossing No, 4-71 Detroit.
+mossman381 Just as a side note, a 4-71 Detroit is a 2 stroke design. That and the `blower`( supercharger ) is where that ear splitting engine noise if comping from.
Reg Sparkes I didn't know the 4-71 was considered a 2 stroke. Just looked it up.
+mossman381 Yes, General Motors seemed to like that 2 stroke, or two cycle principle for some of their engines. Every stroke is a power stroke, you see . The 'downside' is that racket, especially for a bystander.
Love that screamin Jimmy.
The most terrible engine sound on earth!
I have to disagree. Love the sound of a screaming diesel.
Sounds like its gonna grenade.
Love the sound of that 4-71 Great Machine
Music to my ears...
It does sound good.
