May 1st 2005, the first day I stepped into Paragon City. I would give up all my games, just to play this game once more. I will never forget this game, ever. My 10 years anniversary never been so sad.
Vet beta tester here, April 2004. I was thrilled that CoH was going to be free, but I'd rather pay $20 bucks a month than to see it shut down. @Scarlit Vox
If you're asking what server was on the video AP 1-33 in the video was Virtue, though there were rallies on all the servers to some degree. Once the Virtue population capped, more rallies sprang up on Freedom. Then Freedom capped, and spilled over onto Infinity.
A sad end for a proud lady.. I tried DCUO and CO. Dozens of people. Soloing. Side by side. Yea that's what I want in a MMO. In CoH you HAD to team up. And you started seeing the same people. And you became friends with them, sometimes for years. CoH had soul, born from the friendships and feelings created by the people inhabiting the game. The game was just a platform, but it allowed people to breathe life into it like very few MMOs do. Most other MMOs are placid, static creatures. City of Heroes was alive. Durin Mac Mairn, lvl 50 SS/Inv tank, six slotted taunt. Before they nerfed inv I could tank it all.
Absolutely amazing video! Made me cry. "I'll be damned if I am going to let you take away the whole city." We are heroes...this is what we do! No other MMO can say they have a community like City of Heroes!
Two years later and this video still makes me cry. CoX was the best MMO I ever played along with the best gaming community I've ever had the honour to play with. It is the only game where I enjoyed - loved, really - teaming and was as much for me about the game play as the socializing and RPing. The character creation (why I joined initially) and base editing encouraged creativity and a love of our characters, I was deeply invested. We had more classes, more power combinations than any other. I still miss the chit out of it and have yet to find a substitute. Each new gaming community I find disappoints and further goes to show what we lost when NCSoft locked the doors. Thanks for creating this video. Blessed be.
I don't even play the game and this almost made me cry, the community in this game must be one of the greatest evers. Great video, great music, great words from the guys on the forum. Hope this goes well for you guys, i wish my games had a community like this one!
As someone else has posted... City of Heroes, the community, is still great and going strong. It is still fighting, and is moving down a long, difficult path to rebuild what was taken. Join the fight if you want the City back. Missing Worlds Media.
I had gone through an amazing process of elimination, choosing City of Heroes over all of the other mmo's I had immersed myself into. Then I narrowed down all of the characters on COH to a half dozen on just one server. Alas, the final cut, after trying almost every power set multiple times. Then the game died. Nevertheless, I plan on recreating my 3 favorite characters on future mmo's. They will be different, of course, because it won't be on the same game or format, but similar. I will probably start with Elder Scrolls Online, then Destiny Online. My characters' names are unique enough that I should be able to retain them, and of course I can roleplay them normally. I will miss City of Heroes, but honestly I am glad that mmo's are being made for console now, as I never did have a great computer setup. Anyway, thank you Paragon Studios for the priviledge of playing a game that entertained my imagination and took me on many journeys and provided a fun social network... Just thinking about all the hours I poured into Baby New Year brings back memories. P.S. I heard that NC Soft was the real reason COH shut down, not Paragon Studios. NC Soft wanted to focus on Guild Wars 2 and did not give a second thought to its City of Heroes fan base. All business, no love.
I hope you are following www.shipofheroes.com/ The plan is to have the game in Open Beta by the end of the year. It's unconventional but at least it will be a playable game and it has a great community.
Heroes, Paragon City is BACK! We got a cranky server going, and over 15,000 heroes have rejoined the fight Because no matter how long it take, we will always come back home. After all, we ARE heroes. This is what we do. #SAVECOH !
Wow, still amazing! The moment TonyV shines his torch into the night over Independence Port (1:25) still brings tears to my eyes. And there are efforts to create a spiritual successor to our beloved game. At least 3 independent teams are working on their versions and one of them is running a Kickstarter (name is in phreakincools post below) that reached its goal after only 6 days, it is still going though.
Damn, I am crying again. Fantastic video. I am reminded of how the players of Star Wars Galaxies, to this day, speak harshly of the NGE. I believe NCSoft is going to be another studio that finds out how it feels to be on the receiving end of highly focused player angst, if they don't allow CoH to be saved somehow.
As of right now the situation is a 3 page pitch has been sent to disney interactive in an attempt to purchase the intellectual rights of city of heroes pushed by a few people including Ammon and original cox player, i for one back this up, thumbs up to back this up, you can find this on the titan forums and what you can do to help keep this gae going, the more people help the more chance we get, thumbs his up so everyone can see, let our voices be heard and our strikes into their hearts be felt!
Haha seeing Thor's Assassin dancing on the credits there at the end was awesome btw! Happy to see him in this amazing video Jakin. Thank you for your effort here, it's emotive X20. Love it.
Wow, nicely done video doing a great job at capturing the spirit of the players! The devotion and dedication many of us have had to this this game, and more importantly, this community, comes through. Great job. While some small amount of hope remains, the recent annoucement that NC Soft will not be selling the game makes saving the game a lot less likely.
TY. On the topic of hope though, people with business experience have all seen the message to be false (though perhaps not intentionally a lie). The resolve of the Heroes and Villains remains strong, possibly even stronger than before Oct 2. We're not giving up.
thanks dude! I'm already browsing the forums and readings updates on this, i really like this thing as it's a history case in the gaming industry in my opinion
Agreed. People who have never even played SWG were warned away from that game by ex players and now the same is happening with NC. Playing an mmo is about building and engaging with a community. It's what keeps you in game and spending money. NCSoft have clearly demonstrated that they will pull the plug and destroy player communities whenever they want to 'refocus.' Well my friends and I are refocusing too by never spending money with NCSoft and going out of our way to let others know why.
I was a player of Earth and Beyond when EA Games bought up the Westwood entertainment and had the game shut down only a year and a half after it started. That was like... 9 or 10 years ago. To this day, every single time I think about buying a game from EA Games, I think about that incident. Oftentimes, I decide not to buy the game. Any company that underestimates treating their customer base this badly is making a mistake that won't forget them for far longer than they anticipate.
I was in Atlas Park 33 on Freedom for the last week of the game, talking to people, and everything. Great game, i hope The Titan Network can get it up and running again! @Keeper Of Lighting lvl 50 Brute - Freedom
I have watched this video several times. It gets to me every single time. Someone needs to off those damn onion chopping ninjas. Thanks for including me in the video. Where I was, sitting in defeat when the first torch was raised (in the silver costume) was actually how I felt when I heard. Then Tony V got us charged up and I will continue to fight for this community.
You have our support all the way. we are all heroes. Allen our rythum/lead guitarist had us wear a cape and mask on our last bar gig though we arnt anything special we just dont want our home away from home to come crashing down. we are curently in the middle of writing a song just for city of heroes and may eventually post some new stuff here. again very moving video. keep the torches high
It is unfortunate that you did not get the opportunity to play City of Heroes. We ARE one of the greatest communities ever and we will continue to be. We would love to invite you to come and visit us on our forums. Or if you are so inclined then join us. We always have room for one more.
I was a top shelf Tank in this game, 5 yrs playing. I still hope NCSoft goes bankrupt. I was very happy to see their stocks took an epic dive shortly after the decision to kill CoH ... A huge community of people were destroyed, they didn't care...I WILL NEVER TRUST NCSoft AGAIN!!!!!!!!
What is sad is CoH was making money. Not "barely" making money but profitable. By shutting it down NCSoft did 2 things. One, they killed they last guaranteed income (other titles are f2p or non-sub). Two, they set a disturbing standard. If a game making money can be killed, then what will stop any company from shutting down any game for any reason? Now investing in a profitable mmo is no longer a guarantee of longevity.
Awesome video! Maybe it will prepare us for space migration and/or climate change/global warming since we each and all "lose our home" thru collective neglect or inaction and/or the failure of leadership among those with power to make constructive change.
This reminds me of Battlestar Galatica the classic seies. this time The Home world was destoyed by NC SOFT West ( South Korea) NC soft USA. and there is not one last Battlestar to fight back. and all the heres are in ships trying to find a new home planet
May 1st 2005, the first day I stepped into Paragon City. I would give up all my games, just to play this game once more. I will never forget this game, ever. My 10 years anniversary never been so sad.
the game is back lol
Still tear up when I watch this... but very thankful for #Homecoming.
"I'll be damned if I'm gonna let you take away the whole city"
Heart breaking that this game is going away. I signed the petition and passed it on to friends.
Consider it saved. The game can be played again.
Vet beta tester here, April 2004. I was thrilled that CoH was going to be free, but I'd rather pay $20 bucks a month than to see it shut down. @Scarlit Vox
Only one thing to say is /e holdtorch
WE WANT CITY OF HEROES TO STAY!!!!!
If you're asking what server was on the video AP 1-33 in the video was Virtue, though there were rallies on all the servers to some degree. Once the Virtue population capped, more rallies sprang up on Freedom. Then Freedom capped, and spilled over onto Infinity.
I wanna still cry..
Still missing it. :( Still hoping it comes back somehow.

Don't cry, you're a grown man. Don't cry, don't cry, DON'T CRY Q~Q
I cried. :/
Its sad they shut down they need to bring it back

So glad that it's back! My son called me to let me know, I couldn't get logged on soon enough. But it's good to look back.

The party from 0:47 is freaking epic, the text, the music.. and then at 1:20.. plain awsomeness.

well it is back

I legit cry every time I see this video
I heard the prompt at 4:18 and looked at the lower left half of my screen for the message.
Mind. Blown. This is amazing, and everything it represents. No other game community could come together like this. Save CoH!
Mere hours remain until Atlas Park forever fades from the Earth. Gone. But never forgotten.

This video is magnificent. You have captured the essence of who we are as a community. Hats off to you.
Any server-event is done mostly US side, make a level1 toon and be there, be part of it.
I loved this game.
TY.
On the topic of hope though, people with business experience have all seen the message to be false (though perhaps not intentionally a lie). The resolve of the Heroes and Villains remains strong, possibly even stronger than before Oct 2. We're not giving up.
What a wonderfully made video, it brings the coverage and images together beautifully. Thanks.
thanks dude! I'm already browsing the forums and readings updates on this, i really like this thing as it's a history case in the gaming industry in my opinion
So proud to be part of this community!!
Amazing work. Proud to be a part of this effort.
City of Titans in development by Missing Worlds Media. Consider this the Phoenix, rising from the ashes of CoH! w00T!
In all honesty, It just wont be the same.
IAmAChair True, but I'm hoping it will be better.
Odee Dillon It will be good, but it's virtually impossible for it to be better. But that's not stopping any true heroes from playing it.
Agreed. People who have never even played SWG were warned away from that game by ex players and now the same is happening with NC. Playing an mmo is about building and engaging with a community. We Are Heroes. This Is What We Do. We Are Villains. What's Ours Is Ours.
Thank you so much for this! I believe we can save CoH! Send this video to EVERYONE you know!
We are Heroes....
Kick ass video here man! Inspiring and uplifting, it's not over yet! #SaveCoh
About time this game is getting shut down, supply and demand, this is the society we live in today!

@Keeper Of Lighting lvl 50 Brute - Freedom
Amazingly well done. You have truly captured the true spirit behind the SaveCoH movement. Keep fighting all. We are heroes, this is what we do!!!
Yeah, me too. It's really, really pissing me off that I'm not spending the month in the winter chalet outside Pocket D.
This brought tears to my eyes.
This demands an updated video now that CoH is back. Heroes made it happen.
Awesome vid,thx for the great memories..
I have watched this video several times. It gets to me every single time. Someone needs to off those damn onion chopping ninjas.

YEP #$%^ NC Soft!
It is unfortunate that you did not get the opportunity to play City of Heroes. We ARE one of the greatest communities ever and we will continue to be. We would love to invite you to come and visit us on our forums. Or if you are so inclined then join us. We always have room for one more.
Bravo, Jakin. Thank you for this.

Awesome video, gives so much pride for our community.
WE ARE HEROES! THIS IS WHAT WE DO!
We Are Heroes! This Is What We Do!
Haven't played this game, but I'm signing the petition anyway. I'd hate if any MMO I loved was going to be taken down and shot in the head.
Can't believe they would close CoH, its a great game. Times like this I wish I was a billionaire!
Exactly, my friends suggested Blade and Soul, they said it was from NCsoft, I said " NCsoft games are banned from my computer"
@@Zero-gt3ps me too hope they go under.
Actualy the game is making profit for years, even after going F2P they actualy made more money each year.
JayboH gives this a thumbs up.
Wow, an amazingly well-made video, I really needed the morale boost it provided. Thank you!
Glad it's back !!
