BIG thumbs up! The DVD reader didn't show up in the boot override menu, but when I saved & rebooted, it did show up when pressing ESC. I am saved! I can boot from a DVD now. Now I can install Win7. BTW, I just got this laptop used and boot from CD/DVD had been removed as a boot option. Great thanks!

how come nowhere on the internet it says that you cant simply press restart in windows and keep clicking escape with a dvd or usb inserted.All that crappy information everywhere that you have enter bios to disable secure boot and so on will also make secure boot permanetly disabled when you freshly install windows, ruined my first installment cause of this shitty advice. And its not just here this advice is given everywhere!!

The reason it didn't work for me is because Windows 8 doesn't really shut itself down. It just goes to some sort of hybernation when you use the "shut down" option. I had to manually shut it down by running "shutdown /s /t 0". After that, I was able to enter BIOS just fine.
7 years later and this still works on my old laptop that I need files off. One last thanks for you sir.
