    The reason cycling is allowed from 10 am to 3 pm is to share the space with walkers/runners who usually exercise in the morning and late afternoon as there is not dedicated bike path. If you want to ride at any time, go to nearby Benjakitti park as there is dedicated bike path. There is a green overhead walkway that links the two parks together. The statute at the entrance is King Rama VI who donated land to build the first public park in Siam about 150 years ago to emulate Hyde Park in England as the King when he was a prince studied in a boarding school in England for several years. Lumpini Park is world famous for its water lizards, some could be as long as 3 meters! But park goers seem not to be afraid of them and there is no report of the animal attacking people in the park.

    Re the Dusit “ spike “ I read on the Dusit website that the old one is indeed on the top of the new hotel but it’s actually encased inside a new taller spike
    And there will be a small space/ museum dedicated to the original hotel somewhere at or near the top floor area - I always loved visiting the old DT

    Don't expect too much from the new renovation. The new governor prioritizes paying off the BTS debt rather than spending money on something else because the budget will be limited. The former governor had planned to spend a billion baht on a makeover of Lumphini Park, aiming to transform it into a world-class public park like Benjakitti for its 100th anniversary, as he claimed. However, this renovation will be on a budget and won't be anything extraordinary.

    3:10 I had the privilege to work with the Thai structural Engineer who designed the structure of the 23 storey original Dusit Thani Hotel. It opened in 1970 and was the tallest building in Bangkok for several years at the time. What was interesting was that this Thai structural engineer had to go overseas to Europe to learn how to design high rise structures so he could come back and design the Dusit Thani Hotel Bangkok.

    I asked before with no luck but does anyone know what the story is with that huge block of vacant land (shown at 1:30 of this video) on the intersection of Sarasin and Langsuan?

      It’s part of Sindhorn Village and the plan was to build a medical wellness center in the future. It’s just that they haven’t started construction and probably wait for the right time.

    I'm sure you know the Mahakhaon skyscraper that has been designed with chunks out of it. It's most unusual, so could you make a video of that? I'm sure there is an interesting story behind it. It's not far from the Chau Praya river.

    After many times in Bangkok we viseted Lumphini Park last year for the first time. Very bad general condition. Poor buildings under scoffolds, dusty and noisy construction in progress. For the time no place to go.
    But the global travel mate will keep us informed when it’s time to come back, right?

    May I ask what license did you get so that you can take the shots you showed in the video with your drone in Bangkok?
    I know it is necessary but I'm not too familiar with the process or type of license needed

    • @kamolhengkiatisak1527
      @kamolhengkiatisak1527 3 месяца назад

      From google: Can tourists fly drones in Thailand?
      You are only permitted to possess an unregistered drone for up to 30 days. This means that if your visit to Thailand is longer than 30 days then you must register your drone with both CAAT and NBTC within 30 days.

    • @Jintrepreneur
      @Jintrepreneur 2 месяца назад

      Yes I know the 30 days and registration part. That is a simple search online. What I'm asking is more than this.
      Many things in Thailand are difficult to Google and I wanted to know about the exact process (what office, costs...etc) and type of licenses that @globaltravelmate did for this type of video.
      When you try to do government things in Thailand the experience and process often do not match what you can Google. When you arrive in person you will find many things that will be different and waste your time.

      @lucca_lee 3 месяца назад +2

      Bangkok allow pet, only few public parks maybe 5 of them as I know maybe more and I know just 5, due to reason abovemention which understandable, they just dont trust that all the pet owner gonna clean after like in develeoped countries and it not the park staff to clean after such mess too. Not long ago Bangkok just allow guide dog to be in the park for the very first time. anyway there are some parks that allow such as a small section in Benjakitti park , and my most favourite park is Nongbon water sport center is well known for allowing pet to be in very very lovely park pet owner are totally well behave just like some developed country pet friendly park I've been.
