"There seems to be no level scaling in the game" - There is indeed no level scaling. The developers stated in several interviews (in German) that they are not fans of level scaling & find it to be an annoying mechanic that takes away part of the enjoyment of the game (namely, gratification when killing a high-level enemy as an under-levelled player). To the devs it feels like mocking the player. That's why it's not in the game.
There supposedly was information on level scaling in some sort of official plan document release and I guess it was scrapped. For the better I would say because level scaling would suck for a game like this. You should be encouraged to explore and push your limits on gear as well as skill as a player.
Thank god, never understood why games have it, specifically games where you level up and get loot, like whats the point, may aswell just never level and there will be no difference
There definitely IS level-scaling in Elex 2. PB actually confirmed in an interview with WCCFTech that they were going to be scaling certain quests to level ranges so that the player can do them early game, mid-game, or late-game. It's not for every enemy in the game, but certain quest enemies and many (most?) humanoid enemies, including the Skyand invaders, have at least their health (and presumably damage) scaled upwards the higher level you are. I've tested this by going to an undiscovered bandit camp at level 50, and then reloading to an earlier save at a much lower level and going to the same previously undiscovered place -- with the same bandit enemies -- and found they had WAY less health when I was level 20, versus when I was level 50. There's a reddit discussion showing how simple reavers can have their health scaled up to such a ridiculous level that they're actually tougher to kill than trolls (which is pretty ridiculous), and someone's also created a mod to disable level-scaling in the game, with a spreadsheet of all the enemies in the game that are affected by scaling. I started following you when you were posting videos on Elex 1 and your channel has been a great resource for me all these years afterwards. Thanks for your hard work!
Excellent work, C4G. This review was very comprehensive, well-edited, and personable. Nice to know they start you off a little tougher this time around. It took me 2 or 3 tries to get going on the last title because of how challenging the early fights were. Looking forward to checking this out. Cheers!
Very good review, and I agree with almost everything. I told a friend that Elex 2 is a more casual Elex 1 - and that's positive in most cases. There are some things I think are almost too casual now, but there are others, which are great. Especially I love that the amount of attribute points you need to improve an attribute only depend on the base value, so it does not matter when you drink your potions. I kinde dislike the way you improve your weapons... Using threee to "repair" one is good in my eyes. But I would appreciate not only to use a second one and some stuff to improve it further more, especially because I think it is sometimes (nearly?) impossible to find a second weapon. ;-) But the main change in my eyes is the start of the game. In Elex 1 you were such a victim, anything could kill you just by looking at you. It was very frustrating, and if I would not have watched a Let's Play of Elex 1, I would not have played over the first hours. In Elex 2, the start is more "friendly". One big negative point in my eyes: The followers behave pretty dumb in fights, and often they just keep running and start to attack in the moment the monster moves away. The only useful follower, who did not make me cry, is Crony, even if playing with a follower is almost necessary at the beginning. And compared to Elex 1, the followeres aren't so overpowered, that is actually good, because you cannot rely on them to do all your fights.
Man great review. Everytime I think you didn't cover something you then bring it up and cover in the detail I'm looking for. This looks like a great PC game to rest my PS5 "controller hand" from playing Elden Ring :)
Although I am a Pb fan and played Gothic and Risen, I actually ignored Elex 1 when it first came out. Didn't even know it was a PB game, the game flew a bit under the radar and the marketing prob wasn't that great either. But I tried it out because I saw one of your videos, so thx. This looks like a nice sequel, looking forward to it.
no matter how much other people hate it i would always pick a piranha bites rpg game for any other, played all gothic and risen games back in the day, so every time i hear they have something new i know ill get it. the story, conversations and exploring is amazing!
So excited to start playing this in a minute . The only thing that has me worried is how different an awful the characters look from the last game. which is fine to look a little different but they look totally worse in such a drastic way. Jax and caja look nothing like in elex 1.
You don't see Duras in Elex 2 because he has a chance to die in a Quest in Elex 1 depending on your choices. I guess they did not want to creep out people with an undead Duras in Elex 2 xD
Just came across your channel a few days ago and i have been checking a lot of your vidoes specially with all the rpg games that ypu do.and i gotta say i just love your videos man.now everytime i want t o see someone's gameplay i see if you have done it.👍👍👍
Hi, I just subscribed to your channel. I just wanted to say thank you for opening my eyes on so many unknown RPGs! Because of you I am seriously considering to play Gothic 3 for the first time :)
Started a few days ago, I was idle in the Bastion when I hear on the radio that Billy Idol was playing a gig, and then.... A QUEST, unmarked quest to find the Amphitheater were he was going to perform 11/10 SHOW!.
I picked up Elex a few months after it released... and I loved it. Plowed through it like a madman :-) 77 hours on my playthrough under the banner of the Clerics. I'm currently about 20 hours into Elex 2 and I'm loving it as well. It's a very atmospheric game that rewards curiosity and tactical thinking. Plus you really get a lot of satisfaction from becoming stronger, being able to go up against more and bigger enemies - even though it takes a lot of effort to get there.
Thank you for putting in the requisite hours to review such a strong niche' title. This is not an easy task while seemingly every other channel is pumping out "Elden Ring" content. Great video! Easy Sub...
Been looking forward to your review of this for a long time! As always, you give an in depth, comprehensive review. I think this could be beneficial to both new and old Elex players.
36 hours in, still in the second chapter. I got to say the amount of content in this game is impressive. Also, maybe it doesn't look like it on the surface, but the game does a good job on keeping you motivated for doing all the sidequests, exploring every corner since you always need a lot of money to improve yourself. Also, sidequests give you a lot of interesting/valuable insight about the world. Many of them are fetch quests, but for someone reason they feel more interesting than for example Witcher 3. Someone said the game is too easy, well I'm lvl 22 and still get my ass kicked all the time unless i'm cheezing larger packs of enemies or let my companion take all the aggro.
Good video as always. Looks like the game improves a lot on the first game. Soon as I’m done with Elden Ring, I’ll be diving head first into Elex 2 , jank and all!!
I LITERALLY came here specifically because of the comment about "If you can handle my voice for that long" in the Elex 2 most OP video. I think I also just decided to sub, because... you seem to enjoy some great games.
I was very disappointed by Elex2. It has improved combat, jetpack, visuals and sound design but that's about it. There were just a handful of quests that I actually got invested in. It also gave me the impression that there are much fewer quests which you can complete in multiple ways (something that was a staple for PB games). My biggest gripe is the huge number of quests that are literally limited to go kill X number of enemies. They were just lazy time filler by the developers. The loot was also pretty pointless. I had lots of cash and weapons. You literally have the best weapon around later chapter 2, which is still the middle of the game. Also, I don't understand what was the purpose of Dark Elex loot. I kept hoping that you can actually use it to obtain new type of potions or magic, just like with normal Elex, but apparently it's only used to upgrade Skyan weapons, in case you use them. Yeah, all in all it's a 5/10 at best. It's not at all what I was hoping from a PB game.
I love the game. I actually like the flight mele mechanics. He does the move in the trailer where he spins thru the air. And you can juggle back and forth between opponents. Its janky fun tho!
I finished Elex 1 but I avoided playing Elex 2 because of a certain game called Elden Ring, now I am done with Elden and I am gonna get Elex 2 and play it. The only thing that bums me out is Jax ended up with Kaja. I romanced Nasty in the first game and Nasty is my gal. Hahaha.
24:15 thanks for mentioning backstabs. I cheesed one of the first side quest I did that should of been harder through backstabing. The more in depth system is very good.
I play elex 2 on hard and I immediately fought against the young trackers and raptors. Dodge into punch drains half their stamina so you kill them very fast. Combat is easy so far
@@johannesschmitz6370 Yes I would say if you know how to strategize it properly it definatley is easier and more accessible. Granted you still could go up against high level stuff and try you're luck there.
I heard that Elex 2 is more manageable in the beginning which is why I skipped the first game. Played the first one for like 4 hours and while I’m ok with jank Elex 1 was insane, Spiders games for example are much easier in the beginning compared to piranha bites. Elex 2’s changes actually made it much more playable than the first one cause that was jarring. Not only that but it just feels much more cinematic than the first game which is a welcome change for me.
I finished it after 60hrs. I loved the first game so much. There are many things that are better in Elex 2 but as a whole package I like Elex 1 way more. I miss the old cities and the old Clerics...
Duuuude !... That's the most comprehensive review I've ever seen. I've tried ELEX 1 for about 10h on my PC a coupe of years ago and didn't find it catching anymore. I left it to rest. But I love PB Studios and for Gothic's sake (because I'm a huuge G3 fan) I'm gonna give a try to this one. All thanks to you. It really seems that they've repaired quite the bugs they were having. I'm curious if I can find it on PS4, usually I like to play RPGs on the couch, the PC I leave for shooters mostly. Best wishes bro !
I pre ordered and it is already on my PS5. I tried to play Elex four times and always got further and in the attempt almost to the end but the continual chasing of stats did for me. Sounds like this is better now so hopefully more fun. Playing Elden Ring and Dragon Quest 11 so may be a while before I get to this. Great review.
Know nothing about Elex but checked this video out when I heard a bunch of stuff about it. This review is amazing. I felt like a lot of people's reviews were a bit to biased against it since they didn't like Elex 1. A genuine and in depth review that brings to light what they did right and improved from the first game while still noting about the negatives. love it
I think that the game is AA is a big compliment, because from the past 5 years the best games were made by Indie and AA studios. Like modern Hollywood, AAA industry is all politics now and are going down rapidly.
12:03 Outlaws just don't want to loose their old world technology and elex resources from their desert. 19:41 Oh HELL NO. It's stupidly easy. Once you get weapon improving, keep merging them and sell them rarely, your money is basically infinite. Buying best full set of armor wasn't even half of my pocket. In Elex 1 I was consistently selling animal trophies, exploring a lot and pickpocketing everyone and still made less cash than from weapons alone in this game. 29:15 How is it a big deal in Elex 2 of all games??? Not only you advance in ranks from lowest to highest by doing 3 quests (one of the weirdest things in both games) but now there are basically no interactions whatsoever about it and the stats itself are barely worth shit. I increased my armor like 3-4 times over and felt 20% tankier at best. Weapon damage has the same problem. Overall the character progression feels like one big fraud, which is probably caused by some bullcrap mechanic attached to nightmare difficulty level. I played both games on nightmare, I don't see the difference you're speaking of. If anything, lategame in Elex one was much easier than in 2 if you minmax. And I'm saying it as someone who mained magic as a berserker and didn't use range weapons at all so I still made it even more uphill for myself. I completely disagree about flight fights. I usually fought them with melee, simply because it felt more convenient. The only outliar is shotgun option simply because they are objectively the best weapons in the game and it's not close. 33:45 Lighting? Really? Did you not see that blinding fog? The writing took a major downgrade. Elex one had several mysteries and plot twists with your companions, Zardom, Wardek and events that started the game. Here we have only couple revelations at the end, almost none being really some aha moments and sometimes things are nonsensical. Nasty succesfully taunting the peaceful, understaffed Clerics and logical, living right on the frontlines Albs to waste platoon of robots on her because she wanted to train? Fox's mother being right next to a teleport on a wasteland conveniently when you search for clues about her supposed death? Adam being blamed for the fact Elex came, even though he tried to divert it? That last part especially pisses me off because it's a crucial lore piece to Elex 1 as well and it's just a plot hole. Adam seemingly wanted consumable form of Elex because he wanted to prepare for comet to hit the planet but they miscalculated and sent it on the comet itself... ok? Let's ignore that it came in one piece while using cataclysmic bast as transport means. More importantly - how could it possibly cause the comet to choose it's direction towards Earth and why didn't he want it to hit it? Other than that, I think the main story is just kind of boring, unlike it's prequel's. Here it was mostly like playing walmart Dragon Age Origins, except that our pleading for help was one big farse in the end (which makes the trailer quite a bait). Companion quests suffered the same issue. They mostly lack some big ending punch that recontextializes the whole thing and makes you look at it completely differently when you replay. Falk and Nyra had good development and Bully's was nice too but overall companion questlines are really lengthy and feel very artificially extended with the amount of fighting you do in them on random enemies. The dialogue was at times incompetent in Elex 1 but that was mostly repetition of things. Here it's so bad that you consider whether it's bugged or intended in the most clunky way possible. They even copy lines from completely different conversations and use them in different contexts. Infection is very much walmart version of emotion meter from E1. It's completely worthless and same goes for your mental training against it. Also the amount of Jax talking gibberish and getting teleported to aliens' locations just to come back and tell the companion that they'll take care of it some time, made me want to pull my hair out. The comat felt like an improvement at first but I'd argue even that. First, most of the cool features are unavailible for 2h, which sucks. Even the combos you do with it feel straight up nerfed and incomplete compared to what NPCs do. Instead, the only jab 1h took is even less staggering upon hitting. Hitboxes of enemies attacks got improved, sure, but at the cost of Jax's getting way fucking worse. The nonsensical misses he does with Alb's main spell, heavy hit after dodge, execute and kick is one of the most jarring parts of the game. There is also the matter of abolishing the combo system, which I don't think was worth at all. All weapons feel the same now and it also lost sense of our own improvement on fighting throughbthe game. It always forced you to do things smoothly and even corresponded with chosen difficulty. Of course all this pales when compared to already mentioned lack of sense of real progression in our stats. It's pathetically marginal. The world doesn't seem THAT alive anymore. The lack of interactions corresponding to events is insanely disappointing, sometimes downright stupid like after killing Adam or Dex's death. I was really hyped for this game because Elex 1 seemed like PB finally found their style, used their unique features in best ways, got rid of bland stories and made exploration more worth than ever. But this sequel is a good competition to Risen 1 at best.
What about the impact of the time on quest? In Elex 1 you can find some quest that procede in time, I loved Domed city outcomes or some other little progression in side quests such as the villagers get attacked from another Faction. How is this in Elex 2?
I'm looking foward to see your review about chonicles of myrtana, since you a long time gothic fan, and that game is the best "non-gothic" game ever made
This was good but I thought it was wrong about melee in the air. I found that to work very well - the automatic (Batman-style) closing to melee distance makes it more fluid than regular melee IMO...
Recently started Elex 1 (i'm Piranha veteran since Gothic II). And OMFG this is only me... or they just recreate some atmosphere from first Gothic. Even some cutscenes seems like pure fanservice (Jack falling down after taken shot is e.g. like opening cutscene in Gothic 1 etc.) Junky as it is, i'm feeling immersed like years ago, or more recently like in Elden Ring's world.
I just got Elex 2 almost a week ago and already have almost 30 hours of play time. I love it. The one thing I do not like is the camera/FoV. I did get a mod to counteract this though(got a few mods actually). I Never thought I’d need mods for my first play though of a game but it tis what it tis. Skyrim I needed mods as well because I use an ultra wide monitor, so yeh. I really enjoy the game and I haven’t had any performance issues either. 😊
Thank you for this review! Elex II is actually the first Piranha Bytes game to date I didn't get at release (aside from the first Gothic). The RPG concept of Elex kinda drove me away. Not getting any immidiate benefits from investing in strength, dexterity etc. was an extreme bummer for me and I only got around it with my second start of the game last year. Then there are the factions and I dislike all of them. Religious brainwashers? No chance. A bunch of drug addict murderers? Nah, mate. Berserkers seemed like the only choice, but they're extremely fanatic with their laws. Anyways, there's a lot of stuff I had to get over to finally get into Elex. But your video just now got my hopes up for the sequel. Time to finish the first game!
Excellent review! Thank you so much! When I played Elex, I joined the clerics because I wanted to use ranged weaponry. Since the Clerics are not a main faction anymore, which of the main factions is best suited for ranged combat?
Even people with 3k series cards seem to struggle with performance, so I'll just wait for a couple of patches to drop like I did with the first game. I just hope they won't make the nights so bright they might as well be days again.
I don't know. Some the waxy faces are absolutely immersion breaking for me. And that's in a dialog heavy game. I don't know, I preordered the first. But I will wait with the second game. I hope they patch some kind of new skin shaders into it. Some Subsurface Scattering would do wonders. It makes a great difference in The Outer Worlds.

Been playing the game for a solid month now and I love it. I love how they changed Tavar and Ignadon. Shame I couldn’t revisit Edan or Abessa.
Amazing review man. Love your channel. Elex 2 is my most anticipated RPG of 2022! Loved the first game and finally the sequel has arrived. 😊
Yeah Jax got a weird handsome Squidward makeover.
You don't see Duras in Elex 2 because he has a chance to die in a Quest in Elex 1 depending on your choices. I guess they did not want to creep out people with an undead Duras in Elex 2 xD
Such a great review man. You're one of the only gaming RUclipsrs I trust nowadays 💯
Loved the review, thanks so much Click4Gameplay! I was looking forward to seeing this and your opinion, and will definitely get Elex 2 :)
Excellent job, and glad to see this review! Will definitely pick it up!
Seems like we have a nice review channel over here
Looking forward to binge your videos
Big cities..... There are non. Albs and clerics have around 15 building camps. Outlaws have very small village same for berserkers.
I love this review. A review from a true fan that has delved into all of the game's mechanics.
Excellent review man! Been waiting for this one and I'm loving it, a major gripe for me is the camera I wish we could still swap between zoom levels
Just came across your channel a few days ago and i have been checking a lot of your vidoes specially with all the rpg games that ypu do.and i gotta say i just love your videos man.now everytime i want t o see someone's gameplay i see if you have done it.👍👍👍
nice review ! it reminds me somewhat of greedfall..not an AAA game but was very interesting
Hi, I just subscribed to your channel. I just wanted to say thank you for opening my eyes on so many unknown RPGs! Because of you I am seriously considering to play Gothic 3 for the first time :)
Hey... it's nice to find this type of reviews, I really liked the way you described it and I ended up convincing myself to buy it.
Oh yes, I'm lvl 22 and still feel weak af especially against groups of enemies like skyand curators
Man I'm freaking waiting for the install button of ELEX 2 to appear in my steam library
Same. I read a comment saying noon it will be there
36 hours in, still in the second chapter.
Hahaha.
I love these games... and I think you do a great job on your RUclips videos... keep them coming please
32:02 this is the best voice in whole gaming industry and the face its from 2002 makes it so much better
Hooked on another game currently but I also got elex 2, definitely supporting studios like PB 👍
Never thought this day would come! However, Elden Ring has me completely engrossed… Gonna be a while before I pick up Elex 2. Can’t wait though!
Me2-maybe in 2 years when i finish elden ring:))
I'm as excited to watch this review to actually play the game 😋
Great video I just started playing elex 2 like 2 weeks ago in loving it even though I died like 50 times
A genuine and in depth review that brings to light what they did right and improved from the first game while still noting about the negatives. love it
I have always loved the story of Elex, I do wish the combat less Janky, but it has been so much fun exploring the world
Dude what do you mean Bromor voice acting is bad? That is pure GOLD :P
Who said he was bad? The dude is straight pimping. 🤣
Hey C4g, and I'm back after 65 hours of Elex. Loved it.
Glad you said 2:15 ♥️
Everyone should play Elex, it's fantastic.
Will def be checking it out, Elden Ring still heavy on my plate right now
Lipsync is done by AI nowadays.
4:20 That girl from the Morkons? I'm playing Morkons 4 SURE
Looks pretty good but I refuse to pay 60$ so I will wait for a steep discount
What about the impact of the time on quest?
In Elex 1 you can find some quest that procede in time, I loved Domed city outcomes or some other little progression in side quests such as the villagers get attacked from another Faction.
How is this in Elex 2?
Yes for some quest's you have to wait (or sleep) a few days or even a week.
I used to lead monsters to bases so they would kill eachother and make it easier for me in elex 1
Ha I did this as well
Hey man ,great Video as always. Just purchased Elex 2. Thanks for the great recommendation
I'm looking foward to see your review about chonicles of myrtana, since you a long time gothic fan, and that game is the best "non-gothic" game ever made
I'll get to it eventually. I really want to do a full playthrough.
Great review bud, about to get on Elex 2 now :)
I couldnt finish elex 1 but i plan to do it and get elex 2 next, looks really improved from the first one
Thumbs up if your heart still opens up listening to vista point by rosenkranz
Kai is a bloody genius. And he was so young when he composed those amazing Gothic soundtracks. He was in his early 20's.
ELEX 1&2 is the best RPG in my heart as Witcher 3. I played Gothic Risen Elex series, and hope to play Elex 3 in future.
Even some cutscenes seems like pure fanservice (Jack falling down after taken shot is e.g. like opening cutscene in Gothic 1 etc.)
Junky as it is, i'm feeling immersed like years ago, or more recently like in Elden Ring's world.
Will definitely play it once I'm done with elden ring
great review! thx for comparing it to elex 1, now I'm convinced to give it a try
One of the first reviews I saw ending complaining why it wasn't like elder scrolls and I was hehe time to watch my favorite rpg RUclipsr!
Odličan review, definitivno ću isprobati igru!
Loved story of elex 1. Ui map was clunky af so hopefully that's fixed
WAB did a good review for the game. The end is fing hilarious.
I was thinking about ur channel the whole time
just received my copy can’t wait to get stuck in 👍
I played it, and I love it. I had a lot of fun with it. Can't wait for the third game, as I have no idea what they will pull off this time.
Magnificent review, as usual.
Loved gothic and played all of them and Elex, will be picking this one up soon.
Great video and great review! Thanks!
Great video bud! I'm sold!
Finally, a trustworthy review (whether positive or negative).
Looks good. Going to get it next Friday when I get paid. I should be done with Elden Ring by then. Or hit the skill wall I always do in those games
Excellent review! Thank you so much! When I played Elex, I joined the clerics because I wanted to use ranged weaponry. Since the Clerics are not a main faction anymore, which of the main factions is best suited for ranged combat?
I can't wait to dive into this world again, keep this extensive content up!
I think that Jax's voice actor is the same guy voicing the nameless hero in Gothic 3.
