I remeber playing on normal or hard and i loved the game and its combat. I gave u thumbs down for a moment because You are playing on Nighmare difficulty and your complains are mostly because of that. Combat is one of best qualities of this game, it is perfect mix between skill and stats, and that is why you have unavoidable damage and stuns.
      DLC SUCK tho!

Divinity 2: Ego Draconis is my all time favorite game. And I have played lots of games, especially RPGs. I'm probably biased because it was a big part of my childhood, as I had very little parental influence and few friends, but it made part of who I am today, my humour and my character. I can't describe with words what it meant, and still means to me a decade later, it's that good. The characters are fantastic, the world is gorgeous and gripping, the dialogues are perfectly voiced and the script is extremely well structured. The RPG aspect for leveling and progression of your character are very creative, some might say cliche, but that's because this is one of the games that started the "cliche" along with Dragon Age Origins, Elder Scrolls and Dark Souls. Be careful though, you'll feel extremely sad when the game is over (a good 80 hours of pure rpg gameplay) because you'll form a strong emotional bond to it, I remember cried the first time I finished it and I almost do so every time I play it again. I REALLY REALLY would love that this game became more well known, so other people would buy it and Larian did a Divinity 3. I've been expecting for years and then abandoned the idea because of their new turn based RPG niche's success. Thank you Click4Gameplay for showcasing the game, it made me very happy seeing that this game is still being played to this day or is even remotely relevant.

Ego Draconis was my first ever RPG and its impact on my gaming life can hardly be overstated. I love fantasy and I love dragons, and this game delivers amazingly. But more than the freedom of being a dragon and flying everywhere, the quests and npcs are what get me. I play this game on german and I'm not kidding when I say that it's the best full voiceover of any game I've ever played. The humor and voices live rent free in my head, as well as the general charm of the world. I won't lie and say that the graphics didn't age, but locations like lovis' tower remain memorable to me to this day, because the music is so damn good! Festival of immortals is my favorite piece of OST in maybe all of Larian's games and it's a crime that there's only two locations in the entire game that it plays.
      Overall, 9/10 game
      7/10 gameplay,
      10/10 quests/story/general dialogue
11/10 crazy wizard that recites bad rhymes and plays petty pranks while being one of the most powerful mages alive.

@@runtergerutscht4401 I remember the very first time I played the game was on Xbox 360 on the first version of Divinity 2 : Ego Draconis. The game was kind of buggy at times with infinite loading screens and stuff but the gameplay was very much the same, I had the Spanish version and the game was just as beautiful. Then I searched for the Dragon Knight Saga Edition and only found it in English, which was probably the best case scenario, as I learned A LOT of the language with Divinity. I'm probably one of the few that'll say with the utmost conviction that the graphics didn't age in the slightest for me ( and I've played The Witcher 3 on 4K with a ton of mods), I love it in its simplicity and the armory is splendid and unique as well as the art design for buildings. But the music, OH THE MUSIC. My favorite is probably "Broken Valley Wakes", because it's full of memories and joy, but then there's so many others that follow it, "Sleepless Nights", "Memory of the Dragons", "Inner Voice", "Goblins! No Time to Waste" and of course the Main Theme. Kirill Pokrovsky is one of my favorite composers, I love his music on Divine Divinity, you should listen to "Sighs of the Elvenkind", "Roads Shaded by Green Eaves" and "Just in Time for an Ale", they're exquisite. This will be pretty basic, but my favorite location has to be the Broken Valley Village, it's just so cozy, I open the game sometimes to just hang around there for a few minutes.
      Overall, 10/10 game
      10/10 gameplay,
      10/10 everything.
12/10 most underwhelming villain in RPG history
11/10 do not kill to many rabbits
100/10 melancholy, especially when hearing a random OST or song that has similar composition.

Yeah I wish there was another made in this vein...I am not found of too many open world, 3rd person RPGs but these really checked a lot of the boxes off I love. While both Original Sin and the original Divine Divinity are nice, the isometric and totally PC RPG feel are definitely a different vibe from this, to me at least.

One of my all-time-favourites, I've sunk so many hours in that game. I love the dragon form and the seemless switching between human and dragon, the combat style, the character progression, the many eastereggs and the soundtrack... To me the game creates a lot of doomsday-vibes at certain points in the story. It also rewards you for exploring and the loot you find is mostly excellent. I remember though in my first playthrough I killed too many bunnies in the early game... Played on normal difficulty and it was relaxing. The DLC was imo a bit more boring. Plus I don't like being restricted to certain aereas. All in all, it's great to see that the game still is appreciated, to me it was always a hidden treasure.

I'm so glad someone finally made a video to do this game justice. I was always saddened that any search for it would just bring up OS2. Hell, I even considered making a video on it myself.
As a teen, I got this game on 360 digital for like $4 and it was all I played for a whole week in the summer of 2013, unlocking every achievement in just that short amount of time. The gameplay, the lack of handholding, and the music are just so good and it's a shame more people haven't experienced it. I listened to the soundtrack a lot when I was doing schoolwork in college. RIP Kirill Pokrovsky.
A short anecdote: there was a physical copy of DKS for 360 at my local Walmart. It was literally locked up in the case for over a year and no one bought it. So one day, even though I already had it digital, I went ahead a bought it to give it a good home. It came with a soundtrack CD too. Very cool.

    My short opinion:
Larian was a very small studio at the time and for being such a small crew they took a huge step with Divinity 2 and even if a lot of it definitely doesn't come close to being a AAA game, I always found the game exciting and thrilling enough that I still count it as one of the best games I've played. This is probably also because there are so many moments and quests in the game that I remember fondly, like the chicken action mentioned in the review. With the add-on Larian have even taken it up a notch; you can definitely tell that they tried to get more out of the game for the add-on, both graphically and in terms of the quests. I've played all the Divinity games so far and for someone like me, whose first games were Gothic, Two Worlds and Elder Scrolls Morrowind, Divinity 2 is a game that fits very well into this series of good RPGs.

It was a rushed ending because Larian ran out of money and the publisher effectively screwed them over. This game and how they were treated was effectively what convinced them to separate from big publishers altogether and go independent, which is why they needed kickstarter for DOS and DOS2. Luckily those games were successful enough that Larian is now a proud independent game studio that doesn't have to rely on publishers to fund their games any more.

The dragon gameplay in Drakan: Order of the Flame is far superior to Ego Draconis. It gives you a huge amount of movement options, you can attack enemies on the ground (who also shoot with bows at you) and changing between dragon and human gameplay is really well done in Drakan. One important feature of the dragon tower that you didn't mention is the ability to increase the max level of your perks, which can make them very powerful.
I played through this game a few times, but never finished the DLC. Exploring the city and the new, often strange quests felt too disconnected to me and was not what I wanted to do at that "epic" level play.

About difficulty, once you understant that xp is the most valuable ressource, the game becomes super easy. As soon as you have a couple level above enemies you destroy them, even bosses.
In nightmare, you should try to get the most xp out of every quest, past the first bit of the game you can outlevel any encounters. You can always spam magic missiles behind a rock and end with a fatality (2 of best spells in the game) if you struggle. Just don't turn into a dragon in the middle of a flying fortress.

CONTINUED: The interesting things is, Ego Draconis is supposed to be the latest in the timeline of Divinity lore. It supposed to take place after the events in Original Sin II & Beyond Divinity. If you look up the chronological order of the games, all the games released in a mixed up order. The proper order has 2 conflicting sources, but this is from Larian: *1. Divinity: Dragon Commander. 2. Divinity Original Sin. 3. Divine Divinity. 4. Divinity Original Sin II. 5. Beyond Divinity. 6. Divinity 2: Ego Draconis, then Flames...*

Completely forgot about your review. Just wanted to say that it's appreciated. Divinity 2 really needs more attention, especially considering the silly situation with its name.
I can't say anything about other builds, but my Dual Wielder was fun and I'll definitely revisit the game with a different build at some point. It started to drag in Aleroth as Larian are just not much good at story and world-building and it was perhaps a bit too dense. But the game avoids being overlong, as opposed to many other RPGs, so it's not as much of a problem.

For those who have trouble playing on nightmare, remember that monster xp gains decrease the higher your level, so make sure to first clear the mobs before finishing all the quests. Also early on the bonuses from strength and the other two damage boosting stats are really low and percentage based, so go into vitality and spirit for the first few levels. And use armour and stats increase potions, they are pretty useful.
And your pet has more health than you so let it tank like a boss

heck yeah! i personally finished this game this summer, it was fun and sometimes too frustrating cause of backtracking and some missed pointes like crushed ship on the tree and how you can finish the side quest if you don't remember all quest lines and npc dialogue, but it was really fun. It's a shame that dlc was dull and boring, only 1 location, a lot of pretty stupid side quests (yeah, easter eggs and all were fun, but not so fun). I think modern games made me too soft cause of tracking marks and all journal logs, but it was a great experience, i think

I would be (much more) happy (happier) if Larian Studios would make a real Divine Divinity / Beyond Divinity sequel. Not only from storyline or so, but with the original charme and atmosphere, graphic style (with contemporary graphic quality) and the same or at least very similar gameplay (mechanics).
Every other Divinity game after Beyond Divinity felt so different, that i would never ever haved used any reference in the name to the original Divine Divinity / Beyond Divinity and sold them as completely new / other games.

A rough gem with lots of potential. Sadly, Larian couldn't finish it properly and I read that they aren't particularly proud of how it turned out. Now that they're more stable, let us all hope that after finishing Baldur's Gate 3, they'll consider remaking, perhaps expanding this one, based on lore that was cut or outright missing from the original release and/or was established in more recent games (such as the ultimate fate of Rhode or the Divine having a biological son, I'm pretty sure he was "invented" in Original Sin 2).

  • @armelior4610
    @armelior4610 2 года назад +1

Yes ! Someone talks about the often forgotten only 3rd person RPG Larian released ! I'm now playing DOS2 for the 1st time and if the overall plot is obviously better than any prior Larian game, I miss the goofiness that was Larian's trademark. DOS2 is a grimdark game with the occasional chuckle from talking animals, when before that their games were cheesy and almost parodic of traditional RPG.
But the title should be "flames of vengeance" instead of "ego draconis". I don't think you can find the game without the expansion nowadays... and it was supposedly (I never played it) super buggy/unfinished.
I disagree on the expansion being a letdown : yes there is only the city, but there is way less filler, the quests & NPC are better, the loot is better IIRC, the plot is also better.
Final word : "MAXOS !" (best running gag in a video game ever)
