we need more videos like this pony. I've done some really good roses but some were a little rough. you feel terrible and try harder next time. I've done hyper realism in pencil and biro but ink is completely different I've found, like leaning to walk again. I'm going to take your advise tomorrow and see where I can elevate my roses
This is a good reason i have enjoyed it alot.....but then my question is everytime i make a tattoo it doesn't come out as expected. .....the ink doesn't stay well what could be problem.....
The way you went about teaching here is perfect. When I tattoo I do most of these techniques and even learned a couple new ones. The thing you did so well was speaking and teaching all the techniques and why you do them. I feel as if I wouldn’t be able to articulate all of this as well as you just did. Awesome job, and great teaching skills!! Amazing you’re doing this out of the time of your day for the benefit of others, people will learn a lot from this! Keep it up!
His experience already shows from his critique videos, but seeing him do the work just adds so much kore appreciation for how well Pony has honed his craft. Awesome.
Big question comes to mind: I'm just a fan and collector--not a tattoo artist myself--but I wonder if you tattoo artists use fake skin in darker tones? I would be suuuuuuuuuuuper interested in seeing videos like this one that feature examples of different techniques used on dark skin / dark fake-skin.
Normally, I soak my fake skin in bleach water over night. Or for a few hours. Should come right off. Cold water. Also, before applying my stencil I clean it with Dawn soap. Dry it then apply small amount of stencils stuff. This video was great. Liked to see your approach with roses. Would love to see another 💛💫
It's not lost on me how great of a teacher pony Lawson is. That's why they call them tattoo artists. I bet he would be a fantastic mentor. Thank you for the information!
I had this same stencil problem, made a stencil & left it overnight. The thing that worked for me 100% is straight bleach & waiting an hr for the stencil to fade :)
This was by far One of the best Tattoo Tutorials I have ever seen on RUclips..A lot of Knowledge and Technique’s in this Video….More of these types of videos are what people need to get a True Feel on how tattooing really is especially for Realism Tattoo’s..Thanks for the content Pony..I learned so much from this one🙏🏻
Hey Pony, Thank you for breaking down how to tattoo a realism black and gray rose. It really helped me understand what I need to do to improve my realism tattooing. Now for removing the purple stencil from the fake skin, I have had great success in soaking the fake skin sit in straight bleach for a few hours and it erases all of the purple. I hope this helps you! 🙏 Poppy
This was the first Rose tuition tattoo I’ve watched. And have to say, the tips explained throughout were easy to understand and very valuable in helping to become a master at such a tricky tattoo. With the points to remember at the end too, being so important not to over do it. Thank you for such a great tuition 👌
Bro your the only person I’m watching on you tube from now on!!!!I wish you were my mentor you explain everything so perfect and I hope you make way more videos helping me and everyone out like this!!!!
If you get Any bleach spray that foams spray that on in a thick manner for 15 - 30 min and most should come off. After your done if you still have stencil on there let the bleach sit over night. Nice rose btw
This a GREAT video! Been tattooing 10 years and am just now realizing how much there is to learn from tutorials… most are just beginner tutorials which I don’t take anything from or just high speed videos w out any explanation but YOU do so great with explanations and demonstrations! Thank you! BTW I always apply stencil stuff to a stencil and buff it in until it’s all purple and then wipe it away w alcohol to take it off if I need to reapply before starting. Not sure once the skin is open. But this works like magic every time I need to remove and replace one. Thanks for everything you do!
You’re an awesome teacher, brother! I got so much out of this and seriously appreciate you making this for us. I’d love to see a video of a thorough discussion of bright color inks, your favorites to work with, how well they hold up, etc. I have a serious love of playing with color, stippling, and gradients. ☺️ Thank you again!! 🤜🤛
Best instructional video out there!! Good idea would be to post the the same stencil you used so we can screen shot and practice along with you on the same image and interact with the vid.
i have created a ´shading´ playlist for learning (on youtube) like 1 or 2 years ago. also payed quiet some money for a online seminar - and its worth the money. but your video right here is the tightest, most informing and easy to follow/understand by far. thank you so much for the time and energy you out into your work on youtube. it really really hels (… a lot) ! best regards from germany
Usually some dabs of kitchen oil have worked for me as far as removing the stencil, I’ve learned from another video. Thank you btw! Probably one of the best instructional videos ive seen, I appreciate you sharing!
When putting the stencil i like to dab a bit of a wet cloth befor removing the stencil sheet off the skin. that leaves a darker stencil that will only come off with alcohol. Same with taking off leave a damp cloth towel over the tattoo to remove stencil. I use Vaseline to help take off some of the smearing ink left behind when whipping. Also for beginner don't forget to leave the stencil dry over night!
You can use Vaseline for stencil removal. I’d advise you to wait a little longer than usual for your stencil to dry; but having Vaseline applied makes the excess ink from tattooing and the stencil both wipe away exponentially easier 👍🏼
i love this rose , nice work !!! when i want to remove a stensil , i first put a thick layer of stensilstuff on it , let it on for a minute of two , wipe it clean and than i use dettol to wipe of the remaining lines , works good for me ;) greets from Belgium !
I loved this video! It's nice to see you show us you can practice what you preach, and as someone who is hoping to get their first tattoo within the next year it's nice to see an artist's perspective on the process.
My fake skin method Is to remove all oils with rubbing alcohol. Then apply talcum powder. Use stencil stuff to apply stencil. Then let dry but not too long is the trick. Then once lines are applied I use rubbing alcohol and petroleum jelly to remove the stencil lines. Then its reference material and practice.
As an eternally learning novice artist (not a tattooist), my stems & thorns looked fine but my roses resembled a cabbages. You gave me the will too attempt drawing roses again !!
I use regular petroleum jelly/vaseline to remove stencils off fake skin. Process kinda looks like: apply Vesile and rub it in with a paper towel, clean off with green soap, repeat until stencil is gone. Works perfectly for me every time.
A modern day Bob Ross! Only missing the fro Super interesting to get this in-depth lesson in how you work. Many obvious things that I feel I needed to hear again. Really appreciate you giving this to us. Ps. F***ing hate working on fake skin
More videos like this, different styles please😆!!! And next time can you have some way to indicate the tones you are switching from through the tattoo?
i learnt a lot of useful stuff in your video ty so much for sharing, I'm not sure if others have suggested it but i use Vaseline to remove the stencil marks off fake skin with paper towels it works a treat thanks again.
I've been watching videos on line work and was getting to the point of feeling like my style of drawing wasn't going to work in tattoos. Your video just gave me hope.
Great video I’m new to tattooing trying to pick it up with no background in it I’ve always enjoyed drawing so all the tutorials are great thanks for the help I’m gonna attempt a rose
great video! so helpful! getting some fake skin and a wireless machine in the mail! will try a rose! Can you make a video showing how to tattoo a realistic skull?
I've seen people leave the stencil on for 30 minutes then clean it off so that it's light enough to not see it when you tattoo over it but dark enough for you to see it still through out the whole tattoo I've tried amd it works great
i’ve found that personally, the best way to get stencil off is to wipe the majority off with green soap then wiping with a fresh towel that has 50/50 green soap/alcohol
Pony great video, I love watching everyone’s own approach. If I can make a suggestion? A small copy of the reference next to the skin so we can see what you see. Looking forward to more of these. Thank dude
Removing the stencil marks from the fake skin could be achieved with just some strong soap without any water. Works like a charm. 😊 Loved the video btw. Thanks!
Clorox disinfecting wipes work pretty well and are not as harsh as using straight bleach. After the tattoo is done, wait awhile before using the wipes so that the tattoo ink does not come off as well.
This video is perfect, the audio, zoom amount, the labeling, commentary, side by side, color coding stroke, the actual tattoo 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
Thank you, I was the video director

Welcome to good home of the good burger can I take your order
I just saved 15% by switching to geico

You are a blast man, for removing the stencil...bleach water at 100% all night was my solution, Done!
Please Pony, we need more tutorials from U
As someone whos apprenticing right now and learning roses, thanks for this.
I use ink eeze on a paper towel and whip to remove stencil
My advice is for you to keep making these awesome videos. Been following you for a little while now and it thoroughly enjoy your content.

Amazing. I don’t want to learn how to tattoo but I’m learning how to draw here.

Yep same here. Talcum powder really helps to keep the stencil from smudging when you apply it. Thanks for letting others know 👍🏻
Thank you for all your help. I enjoyed your video very much and learned a lot as well. Please keep up the good work.

AMMMMAZING , video, explanation, results.. everything.. i really appreciate your talent as an artist and as a teacher.. thank you
I love you! Just an idea: I would love to see some close ups of needle while you’re working, I think this can help to many of us. ❤️
Great video I’m new to tattooing trying to pick it up with no background in it I’ve always enjoyed drawing so all the tutorials are great thanks for the help I’m gonna attempt a rose
loved it! I found it very useful and easy to understand!
Awesome video. A micro portrait video on fake skin would be sick👍
Best tutorial on youtube my brother!
Hell; this is great for us traditional artists, too! Thanks for the great content, Pony.
great video! so helpful! getting some fake skin and a wireless machine in the mail! will try a rose! Can you make a video showing how to tattoo a realistic skull?
Yup I’m subscribing. This is awesome Pony. Keep ‘em coming🙏
Thank you!! 🙏🏻
I've seen people leave the stencil on for 30 minutes then clean it off so that it's light enough to not see it when you tattoo over it but dark enough for you to see it still through out the whole tattoo I've tried amd it works great
Helped me so much, thanks 🙏
Amazing video! Have you tired the Neuma 4 tattoo machine? I would be very interested to hear your thoughts on it for photo realistic work.
Totally agree!
i’ve found that personally, the best way to get stencil off is to wipe the majority off with green soap then wiping with a fresh towel that has 50/50 green soap/alcohol
Big hung and respect mrs pony 🙏🫡🫡thanks for a tips❤️❤️
Very nice video you’re a very underrated RUclipsr stay true and you can’t fail
Just joined monthly, like the way you present, and critiquing is great and helpful.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge pony! 🤙🏼
This is PERFECT man! Thank you!

Removing the stencil marks from the fake skin could be achieved with just some strong soap without any water. Works like a charm. 😊

Been practicing for about 4 months on fake skin I’m not their yet but you’re videos help a lot brotha
I use bleach to get rid of the stencil
Thanks for pushing the culture G
I’d like to see a tutorial of your stencil app how to use it and how you read the stencil
Excellent video, i think moisturizer cream can remove the stencil more easily, i just saw in a TikTok if you wanna try.
Clorox disinfecting wipes work pretty well and are not as harsh as using straight bleach. After the tattoo is done, wait awhile before using the wipes so that the tattoo ink does not come off as well.
I would try Dettol for applying stencils on the fake skin I find that it worked really well for me for most of the fake skins I have tried
Absolutely beautiful. Love this tutorial. Thanks Pony
Thank you for this video, chill & useful.
Also I use a combo of dettol and rubbing alcohol to remove the blue stencil.
Any suggestions on a good practice skin? Tried quite a few. Majority suck when it comes to stenciling and actually taking the needle.
Loved the tutorial. Please do more of these. Mahalo
Thank you sir... appreciate your time
Great these helped me a lot to answer some of the questions I had in mind ...
thanks for this one alot!
Yeaaaa more HOW TO please!!
Amazing to watch you explain your process and look forward to more.
You are wonderful .congratulations 🌺
