      it's just inconsistency, there are plenty of protected left turns in the lower mainland but not on many older streets, which is kinda stupid tbh, especially when combined with allowing right turn on red. this is why transit and biking is what I do 90% of the time, for my own sanity.

    • @Person-275

      Tbh this is by far more a west side thing, which is funny considering thats where most of the money is. But east van tends to have pretty good intersections, other than like nanaimo and hastings or renfrew and hastings which have that same problem. Also, most traffic in downtown is pretty decent to navigate, though it’s sometimes tricky to remember all the different one way street locations. The best option is to always take public transit cause we have a city where it actually works pretty well.

    This is why I'll never get on a highway. I live too close to Massachusetts, and they give drivers licenses to just about anyone with this mindset. This is for highway driving, not mogging down the suburb doing 150. Dont be in the left lane if youre driving slow. If youre on an on ramp to merge to a highway, match the highway speed before you get to the main road. Slow drivers also often hit their brakes for any fucking reason at all.

    The worst thing when ur driving on a highway/interstate is when you have been following someone going slower than you, then you move over to pass them then they just ram on the gas and not let you pass to then just slow down again, so you gotta drag race these dumbfucks to get infront of them because they dont wanna drive at a constant speed and also dont want people to pass them. Either watch ur speedometer or set cruise control for fucks sakes. dont get me started on people staring at their phone at a stop light then dont go for like 5-10 seconds after the light turns green.

      Those are up there, for sure.
      One of the things that gets under my skin is sitting in traffic going nowhere and then you see assholes driving down the shoulder (just to drive further, not simply to exit at the next offramp, which is permissible afaic). As though the rest of us hadn't thought of driving illegally. Like, yeah we thought of it; we just didn't DO it. Half the time then they get backed up, and oh, look at that: it turns out making the shoulder another lane doesn't secretly solve bumper-to-bumper traffic! It just adds _another lane of bumper-to-bumper traffic._ And gee, now there's an ambulance behind them all, unable to _get_ to the damn accident that's _causing_ this backup, because fifty assholes are blocking the shoulder it WOULD be driving in as an emergency vehicle.

    • @RickJaeger
      @RickJaeger 15 дней назад

      False. The rightmost lane on a controlled access highway is always for driving, unless it's Exit Only. All lanes to the left of the rightmost lane are for passing only-i.e. if there is nobody in the lane to the right of you or directly merging into it from an onramp ahead of you, you _should_ merge right and drive in that one.
      The only disagreement among State laws regarding this fact is whether or not it's mandatory (as in NY or apparently WA) or merely strongly recommended (as in CA). The 2nd lane is not "for" driving along, unless it's a damn 2 lane road.

      On a standard 3 lane freeway you have passing, travel, exit. If everyone piled up in the right lane only that would make traffic worse this increasing the chance of an accident (more cars on the road at the same time = more potential collisions) so yes, use every lane except the far left as a travel lane, pass on the left, and merge left for incoming and exiting traffic.
