Much information can be found online, even back then. There are other ways to obtain information, by knowing who to call, who to pretend to be, and how to speak to them. I've done this to friends in order to demonstrate how easy it is so that they would be more careful, and even then, they don't believe anyone would do that. People are stupid, and gullible. You can't fix stupid.
There's lots of ways to access SSNs. As an educator, I had access to literally hundreds of children's birth certificates and SSNs. I could have stolen any that I pleased, held on to them for several years, and then created all sorts of fake IDs. About 15 years ago, when I accessed my safety deposit box at my bank, in the vault, in plain site, within reach were dozens of manila account folders. Without touching the folders, I could see identifying information printed on the tabs of the folders. I could have gleaned tons of information. (The records are no longer there). Anyone who works in the records department of doctor's offices or hospitals have access to full names, addresses, birthdates and SSNs. There. That's three ways, right off the top of my head. It is actually unbelievably easy.
@@synthiamcbride7194 Thank you. You have provided one excellent example. Others who have easy access to multiple social security numbers include: receptionists in doctors' offices; online customer service agents for banks; insurance agents; and agents who complete car registrations and photo ID services. As a person cleaning warehouses and office spaces I had easy access to thousands of social security numbers. Secretaries and managers would leave paystubs and other documents right out in full view. In the very recent past, I have cleaned office spaces with unlocked file cabinets containing thousands of customer files, all printed with social security numbers, birth dates, and addresses. In general, total lock down of physical and computer files just makes management of a business or agency too cumbersome. To a certain extent, we must go on trusting each other and hoping for the best. On the up side, we share our birth information and social security numbers all over the place, providing access to thousands of people in a year, with generally positive results. Most people with access show respect for what amounts to an honor system for receipt of information. We should all just watch out for online and telephone schemers who are pretending to belong in some legitimate category. There are red flags to watch for. For example, legitimate staffers will not ever initiate telephone or online requests for Social Security Numbers. Legit staffer will already be looking at this information, in response to a call from a consumer. Consumers of banking and other services need to be aware of certain red flags. Real bank employee will not initiate a call and then ask for a social security number. He or she should already know, and should be guarding this information.

The bank shld refund. Both times. ok she was trusting but she didn't deserve it. Jody may have had a hard start but she was heartless and deserved more punishment. @@northerngirl4666 that's why in some societies, criminals have got more rights that victims and its because of people like you. What the he'll do you allow a person breaking innocent people and they end up as heroes?
You can become a lawyer after you do jail time in Australia?
She should have gotten 15 years just for the woman who fell and was taken in an ambulance- Harris rode with her saying she’s a doctor. Bad enough scamming people but to scam an injured person is so low.
Sorry, coming from a "con" family, what do you expect? DEEP DOWN SHE WILL ALWAYS BE A THIEF. What about all the harm done to so many people?
Exactly.
She chose to steal because to her it was easier than working a job,she learned early stealing was the easy way to go. I'm so tired of people using there bad childhoods as an excuse, thousands of people had terrible childhoods, but they aren't out committing crimes, you have a choices in life, but if you're morally bankrupt like her,you chose the easy( wrong )path in life. She harmed so many people,so her I'm sorry and going straight changes nothing for her past victims.
So youre basically saying there's good and bad people... Whatever she does will never make her a good person, if she changes her ways that doesnt really matter because then you'll still bash her... I just dont get these ways of thinking... I feel people need "bad people" so you can think good things about yourself, how youve had bad things happen to you but you arent like her. Its just self serving thinking.
G’day fellow vegemites!
To much praise fot the criminal!
4 years and a happy life, but what destruction did she cause to the victims?
I wouldnt be surprised if in the near future, victims are prosecuted instead of criminals.
Peter Hoysted has Hyperthymesic recall and a fascinating succinct delivery. I really enjoy his appearances in this series.
lol
Thanks for teaching me a new word.i consider myself to be very well read yet I had never heard the word hyperthymestic.
In denial - playing victim - not taking responsibility for having acted stupidly: 'I didn't really do anything to make it happen to me...'🤦
But did anyone else get the subtle BUSINESS CLASS point 🙄
I don’t see how you could find one person’s social let alone many. I’ve never seen someone just whip it out in front of others
@@synthiamcbride7194 Our provincial insurance agency demands you keep you registration original in your glove box. AND mechanic has access to your Drivers Lic. number, correct address, and my backyard guy hooked up cable and ran 100's of dollars on me when I was living in a completely different city, hadn't every lived at the hook up address, and it banged my credit rating. Took me a few years to sort it out.
There is never Justice! ⚖️
how in the world can someone get access to someones accounts with just the info on their ID AND in person from the bank she did not even look anything like the woman whos ID she stole , do not understand , did she not have to show ID to get access or any info from the bank AND how did she know which bank the woman had accounts with? did she see it somehown when watching the woman fill out that paperwork on the plane ? but still seems that the banks their had little security measures
Would be interesting to discover all of the answers to the questions which you have posed, but maybe not such a good idea . to publish the answers in a youtube forum.
I feel bad for the flight attendant. That has to feel like a nightmare you continue to have every night.
The lady on the plane made a big mistake, not taking all her belongings with her to the restroom.
Period.
U will never ser a man leaving his wallet behind to go to the bathroom
Where's Jodie NOW ????
I had a very traumatic childhood, but I chose not rip off people
Unreal. Lived with a cop!
Omg id never leave my bag for 5 seconds out of my sight
So she’s working to pay back the people from whims she stole??
I sincerely hope that poor lady sued QANTAS and the Police for Civil Rights violations, wrongful detainment, kidnapping, and mental anguish.
All fraudsters should head to Australia , big returns for very very little time when your caught well done Australia 😂😂😂😂
I am sorry but the flight attendant is totally clueless and naive .......
The bank seem to have taken no precautions even after the theft of the lady from the plane. She had id but wasn't anything like her victim and they don't seem to have done any checks. The bank shld refund. Both times. ok she was trusting but she didn't deserve it. Jody may have had a hard start but she was heartless and deserved more punishment. Stealing from an injured woman is low.
Good story. She made mincemeat of the Australian police because she is smarter than them. Own it coppers.
4 YEARS!!! They could’ve thrown in a pizza and beer while they were at it. Jesus Christ
Amazing story
The victims suffered more than this person. She needs some American justice. I would definitely get my pound of flesh, she would never own a thing the rest of her life
There is much to criticize about the American justice system but watching true crime stories out of Europe and Australia makes me thankful that the U.S. actually punishes criminals instead of patting them on the head.
If she had been sitting in economy with her friend, like she should have been imo, this would not have happened.😆
@Annamarie Lewis I thought exactly the same thing 😆😐
How did her Mother become a Lawyer as a convicted felon?
Anything less than 10 years is a slap in the mug... but it is considered a non-violent crime.
And even though she hurt people - it was in a different way.. does not make it right...
And also Australia seems to have lighter sentences compared to say the U.S. imo.
Disliked the police? That makes no sense. Greedy after money, and addicted to stealing; no matter how much it hurt others. Really hope she did stop.
Kilroy, the mother, is a lawyer??? After conviction on multiple legal charges?? How'd she pull THAT off?? Once you have a major criminal record even if pardoned it's a long road to getting a law degree, and permission to practice. Is Australia different??
Det said she could have been a successful business woman....SHE WAS A successful "Business woman!"
If the judges family was compromised like her other victims I bet she would have got a hell of a lot more than 4 years!
recovery is the ultimate self-victory
The bit at 17:12 ish, "she knew I had a young family?" - I'm sorry this happened to you but she's already stolen $10,000 do you think she cares what your bills are? Yes, it's incomprehensible that someone wants to do that but you can't think of them having a conscience. Too bad the bank didn't have stricter protocols for safety, especially since it's happened once.
Lady flying business class but had no money for bills
Dam the boyfriend lost his job! How didn’t he know about her ? He worked for the fraud department
Great production.
Shoulda sat next to that friend in economy ...huh?😏
.
You did ,because you left your all details next to unknown person on the plane
Oh she's good real good . I'm impressed .
She get off easy
Stealing peoples money
And only 4 years! And another suspended
I think she will do again !
Who TF leaves their friend in coach while they are in biz class? She deserves the 10K penalty 😮
Nothing artistic about being a thief .
Nobody ever accused the police of being smart .
If she was so clever then how was she so daft to go and meet that copper.
As a young woman she was beautiful and men are subject to be taken advantage of by those women- I know - I'm a man.
She couldn’t upgrade her friend to business…
