  • We visited the Żabiński's Villa in the Warsaw ZOO, the story of which was shown in the new movie "The Zookeeper's Wife", starring Jessica Chastain and Daniel Brühl.
    • THE ZOOKEEPER'S WIFE -...
Jan Żabiński, the director of the Warsaw ZOO in 1929-1951, lived here with his wife, Antonina, and two children.
When the Holocaust started they decided to help Jews by hiding them in the cellar and empty animal cages. At one time there were 35 people hiding here. The Żabiński family saved the lives of more than 300 people. Among them Magdalena Gross, an artist whose works are exhibited in one of the rooms.
Jan and Antonina were recognized as the Polish Righteous Among the Nations.
The villa still holds numerous memorabilia from the pre-war period: furniture, art and photography.
You can book the sightseeing via email: willa@zoo.waw.pl or by phone: +48 603 059 758.
