    I'd go live doing exactly this all day, everyday...💚

    It’s been 1 year & 5 days since I left my Naples beach condo. It was not a high rise, only 2 stories. South of the pier & north of Edge Water beach hotel. Had to sell it. Spent 53 years back & forth from Michigan to Naples. I miss being at my happy place every day. It’s taken me a while to watch an entire video of yours. Because I get sad. However You do such a great job explaining things and identifying shells, critters, & birds. I’ve been to many of the beaches you have visited and have hundreds of shells (collecting for 53 years)!! Thank you for taking us along on your beach explorations. Thank you for saying leave the birds alone. They do the rest especially in the winter. AND especially making sure the shells are not occupied. I always brought a bag with me on my walks to collect garbage. A polluted beach is not good. Keep up the great work & I am very jealous when I watch your videos.

    The variety of tiny shells always amazes me when I stop to take a look. I love all those bright coquinas & rose petal tellins. You did get a great variety of nice shells this week and I think the Horseshoe Crab was probably the coolest. I’m excited to see what you have in store for us next week.

    Hi Sharmon,
    What a beautiful new intro! A great way to show your gorgeous Horse Conch and amazing finds!
    You were quite right for putting on boots and warm clothes. That morning was cold! I was surprised to see people laying on the beach and going into the water when it was 65 °F.
    You found some amazing shells!! Love all those colourful shells. They are so cute! And that Florida Cone! Wow!😍
    Thank you for teaching us so much about all the critters and the shells, and thank you for taking us with you. I really appreciate it!!❤
    Can't wait to see your kayak trip to the islands.
    Wishing you a wonderful week, filled with sunshine and amazing finds. Big hug and lots of love, xoxo ❤, Ilona

      When it's a little chilly out and I see people walking the beach in their swimsuits I assume they're from somewhere really cold and 1) they aren't cold and think the weather is awesome or 2) it's their vacation and they are going to wear those suits no matter what! Either way it's always great to see people enjoying the beach. I hope all is well by you my Netherlands Beach Friend! ❤️

Especially because people might unknowingly take shells with live critters home because of their beautiful shells. I love walking the beach with you every week vicariously collecting shells. I make resin jewelry with the pinshells. I break off the mother of pearl undercoat and shape it with an craft knife. I then place the shell pieces on a black background to highlight the mother of pearl. I have several pieces of large Beach Tacos as supply. They are really ugly shells, but beautiful inside.

    The pen shell….we call them razor shells back home in Australia ….simply because if you walk across a bed of them they will slash your feet….but most people collect them for the meat…they look like scallops but they are placed in vinegar for a month where they develop the texture of chicken.

    • @SWFBeachLife
      @SWFBeachLife  2 года назад

      They're harvested in Mexico like scallops. And they also have little crabs that will live in the open shell. They're so interesting!

    Last weekend we went to lighthouse beach on Sanibel and brought home our best haul ever. In the tack like we collected about 500 bubbles no exaggeration but within the bubbles and minis in the line we took home 16 wentletraps. We don’t usually shell there so I am not sure if it was a fluke or not. I feel like you have said you want more of those. 🙂🙂🙂 January 1st is supposed to be -1.2 low tide!!

Eventually you will be able to resist the ffc's!😊 Beautiful FL cone! I think the heron was a Louisiana heron. They are typically light and dark like that. Shark eyes are my favorite shells! Moon snails, like the gaudy nautica, have a indentation on the umbilicus. The umbilicus of a shark eye looks like a button to me almost. The underside of the shell is what distinguishes it. The tricky part for me is telling the difference between a shark eye and a false shark eye. The false shark eye’s umbilicus tends to have a ridge that attaches to the shell while the shark eye does not.

    • @SWFBeachLife
      @SWFBeachLife  2 года назад

      Did you see the live moon snail I found last week? It was pretty awesome.
      I've noticed some of the moon snails definitely look different, however this whole umbilicus thing is stumping me. I have a few moon snails sitting on my desk so I can continue to try to differentiate them. I think the way the umbilicus it attached to the shell is helping me but I still don't have it nailed down yet. Thank you for the additional info. I'll take anything I can get!

    • @ALPHATHEAWESOME
      @ALPHATHEAWESOME 2 года назад

      Yes! The moon snail from last week was really cool.
      You’re welcome! Here in Texas, I use a website called txmarspecies, it lists the marine Gastropods of Texas. They have pictures and descriptions differentiating the shark eye and false shark eye. We don’t have gaudy nautica in Texas, but the website does have pictures of the miniature moon snail, which has a umbilicus similar to the gaudy nautica

      I went on a shelling tour last week. A woman was very excited about something she found. It was a calico box crab. I was explaining a little bit about it and she knew who I was from watching my videos. You never know where I'm going to pop up so we very well just might meet in the future! Happy shelling!

    Love your new opening especially when you show your big find. That was so exciting!! My sister who is in South America had the same experience with a baby turtle today. You can hear her tell it to get into the water. It was so cute. I find your whole series is a learning time because I love the ocean but never knew all the shells that can be found there or why some of them have that perfect hole drilled into it. It’s all so fascinating to me!!
    I look so forward to every Sunday because I get to go on a beautiful beach walk even in the fog, which I thought was so cool, and learn something new like the Horseshoe Crab. I didn’t realize they shed the shell. I just thought it was a different kind of crab but now that I’ve put it down, all crabs shed.🤪
    You see!! You have so much left to tell us about.🥰
    Thank you for a beautiful beach walk and we’ll see you next week!! Have a great week!!😊🐬💗

      I have to do this whole job thing (it's such a drag and really takes time away from my beach) but I am going to take classes to be a Florida Master Naturalist. Can you imagine how many other cool things there are to learn? I will squeeze these classes in one way or another because I'm dying to learn more about the beach and pass along all the things I'm learning along the way! I literally knew nothing when I moved here. The beach is an AMAZING classroom!
