They are actually correct about to everything I’m a Honda guy but Honda’s ground clearance sucks and the auto transmission is terrible too even people that own a automatic Honda will tell you that
I have both of these ATV's, and will attest that this video was accurate in its comparisons. Of course, being an advertisement, it leaves out the benefits of the rancher, like the extreme dependability, stability, and general toughness. I love both wheelers, but prefer the grizzly on the rocky terrain. I like the rancher better for pulling stuff around.
Yeah seeing as how this is from "YamahaMotorUSA" this couldn't have ANY bias at all....right.....rrrriiiiiggggghhhhttttt. I'll take a manual foot shift Honda over a boxy as hell Yamaha any day.

yamaha has and always will be my favorite brand, but I just gotta point something out... why did this guy say the Honda has no high/low range gears? In esp mode, 1st gear = low range 3rd gear and above =high range
+Michael Rilling Agreed! And there plastics are much stronger. I wish I went with a 420 rancher IRS! I'm starting to see the weakness of my 450 se eps as I put more K/M on it.
Coen Winter Yep, I have friends with well over 10,000 km and no problems. I'd get a Honda Rubicon 500 irs for my next rig but I decided to go Can am and see how that goes.
i once was an avid YAMAHA rider to the bone! sent my Grizzly into the service shop 4 years ago and they gave me a HONDA to use for that day and I never gave it back! HONDA is a WONDER!
The high and low on a Honda comes from what gear you put it in and with putting it in reverse you can easily do it with one hand without having to let go of the handlebars
Yamaha still has a belt. Honda has real gears. Yamaha will fail always. Plus on a Yamaha you have to take your hand off of the handle bar to switch from forward to reverse. Not on a Honda, hands always on the handle bars
When you switch from forward to reverse why does anyone need both hands on the handle bars😂. It’s like saying Ford is better than Chevy because even in a parking lot you have to wear your seatbelt in a Ford or it will beep. Whereas the Chevy you can take your seatbelt off. Ford all the way! 😂😂😂😂
I had a 98 Fourtrax 300 4x4 until I sold it just last week. In 15+ years I had ZERO mechanical issues. It was used hard but not abused. My friend had a Yamaha, similar in size and power. We had numerous contests to see who could get through the nastiest mud, over the biggest deadfall, etc. I won EVERY time. His died several years ago. My Honda is still going strong with it's new owner and I'm picking up my new 2013 Rancher this week.
I watched this video and it moved me off the fence between Yamaha and Honda. I've owned Honda's since my brand new Honda, Z-50 Santa brought me for Christmas 1977 then an XL-125 and a generator and a 15 hp motor and a civic, an accord, another civic, and yet another civic. And you know what I considered most before choosing between Yamaha and Honda? Of all the Honda stuff I've owned, none of it was so complicated that it let me down. That's right even that '77 Z-50 with it's 3 speed, no clutch lever transmission never let me down - nothing ever broke - nothing. So when Yamaha post a video and compares reliability of their Grizzly to anything Honda makes, I'll look again. But until that time comes I'm not going to risk my life riding anything except a Honda into the middle of nowhere in Alaska. To put it another way, would you take the wheels off your truck and put your 9 year old daughter underneath with a Harbor Freight jack or one from Snap-On?
3:08 heck yeah I'd rather be shifting manually. And the Honda has no need for low range because it has gears, all you need to do is shift into first or second. I do agree @ 4:50 though, Honda does need to add diff lock for sure. 6:30 my dads 01 rancher has an outlet like that. I have nothing against Yamaha, they make a great fourwheeler, but this was the most biased and crap review I have ever heard.
I've got a 2016 Rancher and it makes very good power and I've never bogged down due to shifting like is displayed on this video. "Auto" can be used in most situations, but it's no problem to press the up or down button to manually shift if you need to or want to. Are these folks THAT lazy? What did they do before they came out with auto transmissions? Some of us don't have a problem shifting a bike manually. That 420 engine has more than proven itself to be bulletproof, and reliable. What good is a 4-wheeler if you have it in the shop all the time? The video forgot to mention the problems that the CVT transmissions have as well. They're not fool proof either. This video is extremely bias. If you're doing a video to promote the Yamaha Grizzly, that's fine, but you don't have to make silly false claims about the Honda Rancher, that any Honda owner can easily dispute.
PatriotNC1 The Yamaha cvt transmission is different than a traditional cvt transmission on a can-am or Polaris, Yamaha’s system keeps constant tension on the belt, instead of slipping all the time. That’s why the belt on my grizzly has lasted 15 years.
Not to mention all the genuine Yamaha accessories for the grizzly, and the GYTR products.. With the bumpers, exhaust, intake and programmer upgraded unleashes the full potential and maximizes protection with the bumpers and skid plates to protect your investment! The big metal bumpers give it a much more aggressive look and solid protection!😁
I've never had either of my Yamahas ('06 Wolverine 450, '09 Grizzly 550) leave me stranded. In fact, the Grizzly 450 has the same engine as my Wolverine 450. I can vouch for how tough the 450's engine is. I had a small limb on a downed tree puncture my lower radiator hose. I rode about 5 miles back to camp with no coolant. That was during the first week of ownership, and it it wasn't even broke in yet. Over 5 years later, the engine still runs fine and has never given a bit of trouble.
Very simple answer to this video. I own two quads 2017, 2018 Honda Rancher 450's both. The people how knows about quality and durability only buy the BEST!!
LOL, typical Yamaha commercial downing on a Honda. The Honda electronic power steering is the exact same as the Yamaha. More assist at lower speeds, less at higher speeds...... The only thing that's better about the Yamaha is the ground clearance... Another thing is, the Yamaha uses a CVT belt driven transmission for comfort and smooth shifting, while the rancher has a gear on gear transmission which allows you to feel each shift and is so much better in my opinion.
Wrong comparison - should be the Rancher vs the Kodiak or the Foreman vs Grizzly. Of course you know that but continue to mislead people. Just be fair!
this is just a yamaha advertisement complaining about honda and always finding anything they can to get at honda when they are not saying any of the bad things about the yamaha
shifting is the best part, I use a 13 year old 2wd rancher and it hasn't had any problems in it's whole life. Only been stuck once or twice but nothing you can't get out of (pull it out like a sport quad)
i was a honda kinda guy until i bought a griz 450 after riding a honda rancher for so long. i am only 14 and bought it with my own hardearned money this past october at a yammy dealer. trust me guys and girls this atv will NOT disappoint.
my dad has a 04 Kodiak with 28 000km on the original belt. original spark plug. runs 26 inch itp mud lite Xtr tires and plows alot of snow during winter. This bike has never seen a wrench except to change the fluids and clean the air filter. he got 9 years out of the original battery.
Higher Ground clearance = higher center of gravity = easier to roll the Damn thing over and get hurt. If you are going to build a quad with high Ground clearance at least make it wide like Honda did with the rincon. Those grizzly's are rolling over as if That's what they were made to do

Not much was really given a plus on the honda. As for as the 4x4 button your hand can easily bump it and knock it into 4x4 when you're doing 40 on the highway!! And the differential, just pull the front brake laver and it will kick in. I'm still going honda b/c of reliability. Honda is the most reliable than Yamaha and kawasuki (meant to spell it like that) because it is metal on metal and no rubber belts that slip all over
Hayden Smith Even if you somehow bumped it on the highway it still wouldn't engage. You have to be going under 15 mph to go into 4x4. Also, you can do 60 mph in 4x4, it doesn't matter. Honda is the most reliable, but Yamaha is pretty close. We have an old Honda Foreman and a 1989 Yamaha Moto -4 that have lasted through years of farm usage. Dif-lock is better than 3x4, no way around it.
Honda is the best most reliable atv on the market u just make it look bad I could get up that hill in two wheel drive and he did not hit it right on the yamaha he did u have to stupid to fall for that Hondas is the all time best
I know what can stop a Yamaha 600 Grzzly with a dirty racer at the controls....a 300 Honda Four-Trax and a crazy Gear Jockey on a Kamikaze run. He broke the rules and put people's lives in danger....me and my old 300 made sure the guy and is green teddy bear sat out the rest of the races.
Own both...and let me tell you, aside from the regular maintenance. Haven't replaced a part on the honda, It great! The most dependable machine you'll find plus the designer and manufacture does a better job at not putting alot extra things on that will either be washed off or break easily...like the yamaha but things happen to unscrew occasionally...pretty annoying...a drop of locktite helps. On the other hand, It's irs is incredible, torque is outstanding, and so is diff lock.
I forgot the name of the atv but its the older version of the rancher we got it in like 1989 andvwhere still driving it i have the recon with isthe 250 version of the rancher but it was from 2005 and the originall owner said he had to replace the tires and thats all and i have had it for 22 years nothing rong thats my sisters but i drive my raptor 250 and i have had to peplace my battery and thats all but the rancher looks so mutch better but if you for utilitty and you dont git polaris or canam git honda
@@lucasfromdavalley not really, pretty strong actually, his quad just takes alot of effort to turn compared to my polaris. Not that I can't do it, just fatiguing after a day of riding if you keep it locked
Total crap Yamaha payed them to do this. Every one nows that Hondas last the longest and will any thing equally or better than its competitors. Enough said.
Replaced spark plug and it seems to be running great again. Screws for panel to access plug were extremely hard to remove the first time, from the factory, thought I was going to strip out the heads before they broke free. C'mon Honda you can do better than that!No idea why a plug with only 50 hrs. would foul. Will keep fingers crossed for a while.
Every Honda i've had has shat itself within the first 2 months of hard farm work but my old 2001 yamaha kodiak 400 has just kept on going. One of the only bikes with a park and a handbrake which is essential when leaving your bike on a very steep hill with many posts or deer on it.
I just sold my Grizzly 660 yesterday, I'll never have a Yamaha again. It had 7000 miles on it and it was riden on a farm. It wans't dependable at all. Everything broke and I didn't even ride it hard! My buddy has a Honda 500 and he's got 10000 miles on it and he hasn't replaced a single bearing! I'm buying a 2008 Honda Rancher 420 4x4 next!
I ride a 10 yr old honda foreman 500 rubicon and what a bike...ahead of its time back then. Still kicks asses of many contenders on any terrain or condition. You just cant beat a honda when it comes to rugged durability and longevity.
In my town there were 2 grizzly 750's and they were here for 1 week and both werent running on the seventh day. I have a rancher 350 and its still goin strong. its goes through hell and back each summer. by far the best bike ive ever owned.
I have a 2010 Suzuki Quad 400 and my dad has a 2012 Honda Rancher 420. I have 1.9k miles on it, no problems. His rancher has 800 miles. He has had to replace cv joints, front axle seal and clean the carb out twice. And the KQ is faster. He beats me through 2nd gear but I pull from 3-5th.
It's pretty easy to tell you're making that up because a 2012 Honda Rancher 420 is fuel injected. Which means no carburetor..... Quit makin stuff up and go buy a Honda buddy, then you won't have to get on here and try to make yourself feel better.
Umm, yes, the 700's are fuel injected. I believe the 450's are now as well, back when I had my Grizzly 450 in 08, they were carbureted, damn thing was useless most of the time as it wouldn't run right in the cold...if you could get it started, and the CDI was bad in it causing it to shut off randomly. Was glad to get rid of that thing. Never again will I wast money on a damn ATV, they're over-priced junk. I do the same stuff with my truck that I could do with the ATV and the truck is a hell of a lot easier to work on, and far cheaper.
I don't see why everybody brags about the automatic transmission on any bike, shifting is half the fun of the ride.

Haha I pulled a 3,000 pound horse trailer with my 300
I’ve got a 1996 Honda 350 fourtrax and that things a beast
u can tell dat man works for yamaha so he gonna be all bout da yamaha
Drive the Honda all day in the mountains and burn 1/2 the fuel of that Grizzly. See who tows who home!
If you cant ride a manual four wheeler than you should ride one at all
Yamaha for trail, Honda for work, that’s why we’re getting a 2019 rancher with the SRA, she’ll pull firewood nicely
6:15 Why are they comparing stock tires?
Is this a Grizzly infomercial?
The honda will outlast the grizzky
True.
Julien Leblanc no
Solar Wind who would u know u can't even spell
It depends on how you use the grizzly
I forgot the name of the atv but its the older version of the rancher we got it in like 1989 andvwhere still driving it i have the recon with isthe 250 version of the rancher but it was from 2005 and the originall owner said he had to replace the tires and thats all and i have had it for 22 years nothing rong thats my sisters but i drive my raptor 250 and i have had to peplace my battery and thats all but the rancher looks so mutch better but if you for utilitty and you dont git polaris or canam git honda
the guy on the Yamaha had to use his whole body to turn
My dad has a grizzly 700, the EPS is VERY heavy, especially in 4wd, if the diff is locked, pretty much forget about turning...
@@nicholasmapes u must be extremely weak then...
He works for yamaha biased bastard
The guys shirt eve says Yamaha 😂
leemcfaddenlawd yes
For the last time people, it all depends on how you treat the fourwheeler
Most advertising is deceptive bullshit.
you're comparing a trail rider against a work horse
Yes the honda is better for work but the grizzly better for offroad
Damm this guys voice is great
i own a 2012 rancher 420 i say its the best atv i have ever had
All Honda
Replaced spark plug and it seems to be running great again. Screws for panel to access plug were extremely hard to remove the first time, from the factory, thought I was going to strip out the heads before they broke free. C'mon Honda you can do better than that!No idea why a plug with only 50 hrs. would foul. Will keep fingers crossed for a while.
Guy with a Yamaha jacket tels me the Honda isn't great... Translate this: wij van WC Eend, adviseren WC Eend.
I CAN do anything on my rancher 350 :)
I will walk it on my can am
Stop talking trash about yamaha there reliable too .....................but I would take a honda for lasting longer
The dude trying to shift into reverse lol
yea exactly
and honesly its not that hard
i have tiny hands and i do it one handed
Every Honda i've had has shat itself within the first 2 months of hard farm work but my old 2001 yamaha kodiak 400 has just kept on going. One of the only bikes with a park and a handbrake which is essential when leaving your bike on a very steep hill with many posts or deer on it.
honda power! honda are the best
Then can am hit the sene
@@dylanwester5366 and blew up
Honda’s have the least power of any make atv as far as HP
I have an 07 Rancher and a 06 Yamaha Big bear, both bikes are great. both have their weird personality.
Honda has not changed anything in 10 years and is still better than yahmaha😂😂😂
Agreed
That's because honda got it right the first time.
Grizzly is fucking amazing for pulling logs
HONDA!!!!
I like Yamaha but really, this isn't even fair, the rancher should of be up against the Kodiak 450
ok mister-video, now lets talk quality/durability and customer service...and btw, put someone that can ride on the honda..
can you please do the can am 450 versus Yamaha Grizzly 450
@wetthebed6 exactly and Honda didnt have to call down other companies to make there quads look good
Y’all shut up with that Honda. Honda’s are weak. No speed. Just decent durability. Like Yamaha. But Yamaha has power and speed.
I got a 2013 Honda foreman 500 and a Honda fourtrax 300 1996 an you can't be em
I don't wanna be a four wheeler and my kodiak could
This is so true I have a grizzly from 2006 and it's never had an issue
The driver in that Honda really sucks, my 4 year old cousin could make it up that hill!!!
Having both to compare, the Honda Rancher blows the Grizz out of the water, hands down. The Honda Rancher 4x4 is thee best choice between the two.
Grizz is better offroad and rock crawling
This video is kissing the grizzly's ass. This isn't an educated comparison, it's just a video trying to make Honda look bad
I have a Yamaha grizzly 350 and I love it but I also have a Honda rancher 350 and it would kick its ass all together
Well when I'm pounding a trail on my good old foreman 400 I just stay in second gear and hut it hard
In my town there were 2 grizzly 750's and they were here for 1 week and both werent running on the seventh day. I have a rancher 350 and its still goin strong. its goes through hell and back each summer. by far the best bike ive ever owned.
700 not 750 Boy get it right
This isn't biased at all....
(he said with sarcasm)
I have a 2010 Suzuki Quad 400 and my dad has a 2012 Honda Rancher 420. I have 1.9k miles on it, no problems. His rancher has 800 miles. He has had to replace cv joints, front axle seal and clean the carb out twice. And the KQ is faster. He beats me through 2nd gear but I pull from 3-5th.
I highly doubt it he probably treated it like shit
Bryan Hines Maybe if your father knew how to drive a bike then he wouldn't of had to go trough all that
The Average Gamer Uhmmm, my dad drives conservatively. He has rode fourwheelers all his life . and BTW he now has 2015 Can Am Outlander 1000 XT
It's pretty easy to tell you're making that up because a 2012 Honda Rancher 420 is fuel injected. Which means no carburetor..... Quit makin stuff up and go buy a Honda buddy, then you won't have to get on here and try to make yourself feel better.
This was so bias it’s hilarious
It always is. Polaris does it. Can am does it. Everyone does
I owned a Grizzly 660. I sold it....now I'm back on a Rancher 420. Hondas are 5x's better designed better than a Yamaha.
Does anyone know if they sell a fuel injection Yamaha grizzly 700 2015 model
Yes
Umm, yes, the 700's are fuel injected. I believe the 450's are now as well, back when I had my Grizzly 450 in 08, they were carbureted, damn thing was useless most of the time as it wouldn't run right in the cold...if you could get it started, and the CDI was bad in it causing it to shut off randomly. Was glad to get rid of that thing. Never again will I wast money on a damn ATV, they're over-priced junk. I do the same stuff with my truck that I could do with the ATV and the truck is a hell of a lot easier to work on, and far cheaper.
I easily rip through trails like those on my Honda trx400sx
