Fun Fact: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was the first game to get a set release date here in the US. Before then, games kind of had target months, or time periods when they would be released. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 had a firm release date in the US and Europe, of Tuesday ("Sonic 2's-day) November 24th. In Japan, it was released just three days earlier on the 21st, making it one of the first games to be released worldwide around the same time.
That sort of fact always segues into my experience getting the original Final Fantasy as a kid. I called the local stores every couple days the month it came out. And I got lucky and they sold it to me the same day they got the shipment in. Based on today’s standards, it was definitely early.
Sega of America pushed the Japanese developers hard to make sure they had the game finished and shipped on time too. Sega America had a big marketing campaign in place for Sonic 2 to be released on a Tuesday.
I'm going to say again but thanks so much for showing these commercials and taking a trip down memory lane. I enjoy watching and working at home. This is the closest thing for a time machine
Barqtoos were awesome! They should bring that on again, those temporary tattoos, man haven’t had Barqs in ages, think about how much soda we’d drink in the 90s lol
Nordictrack- I never realized how flimsy that Nordictrack exercise machine looks in this commercial. Whenever that man is using it, I almost expect that machine to just break apart at any given moment. TV Spot For Son In Law- If I didn't know better, I would have thought that this TV Spot was for an actual horror movie. The screaming at the end topped off the commercial perfectly.
The main thing I remember about Last Action Hero is that they advertised it on the side of a space shuttle that went into orbit...I guess Columbia/Sony was going for the Martian Demographic?...
I was actually thinking last night how I kind of miss portable CD players. However, I don't miss having it squeezed in my pocket, with no real ability to carry multiple discs when I'd go out.
I remember that Sonic 2 ad. I would never try to do any of that with my game case, but I did like how they had those plastic boxes to store your games. It was way better than the NES and SNES games.
I absolutely love Last Action Hero, but regarding Schwarzenegger's request to delay the movie, they could have used that time to tighten up the post-production, but noooo....
Exerlopers...Anyone who tried to wear those were probably subjected to endless humiliation and beatings...from their friends, relatives, grandparents...
Let's see, 4.95 for the first three Cheers episodes, then 19.95 plus s&h for each additional three episode tape. Cheers ran for 275 episodes so that means you'll have spent over $2,300 for about 92 cassette tapes. Sent every 4-5 weeks, that would take you roughly 23 years to complete your collection. Columbia house went under in the US in 2010, 3 years before you would have completed your collection. The complete series came out in 2015 on DVD and retails for about $65 nowadays. In short as someone else stated earlier, Columbia House was a total ripoff and I was so happy to see them go under.
Provided you got a new tape every 4 weeks you would get 39 episodes a year. So it would take more like 7 years, not 23. I'm not actually sure if Columbia House released the entire series in this fashion, but yes...an absolute ripoff.
Barq's Root Beer-A&W had more"bite" IMO Burger King-LAH was playing in the theater across from the one playing Jurassic Park in my local multiplex..lot of people were sneaking over from the former
I remember first getting a Nordic Track in 94-95. I was quickly told not to use it after almost putting a hole in the wall when going too hard with the skis...
#8: - The linked video is a Vidmark trailer, possibly from a 1993 reprint. It specifically mentions both Jurassic Park and Dennis the Menace and calls this movie a mashup! ...Was this intentional...? >;p *EDIT:* ...Apparently, it was; it was a pitch tape to rental store employees! Who knew? XD
Had to double take that AT&T commercial. They got it pretty spot on in 1993 with the whole remote meetings thing!
My 90s kid days are screaming for me to come back!
When life and times were much more simpler. Nothing takes me back to the Golden days like watching these 80's & 90's commercials with my wife.

Wow that's pretty cool I didn't know that thanks

Last Action Hero was mad slept on!

The Sonic commercial is the best. Lol.
right and Sonic 2 was my most favorite happy 30th anniversary to the game
Barqtoos were awesome! They should bring that on again, those temporary tattoos, man haven’t had Barqs in ages, think about how much soda we’d drink in the 90s lol
MST3K, Last Action Hero, CDs, weird exercise shoes, 1-800-COLLECT and those futuristic YOU WILL ads - I miss the 90s!
As someone who taped mystery science theater I know all these commercials very well
What MST episode was on this one. Do you know?
It's in the first line of the commercial descriptions. Please read these before commenting.
When I see 80sCommercialVault make lots of comments about the ads in the information section I know the vid is gonna be full of gold.

Last Action Hero rocked , I don’t know what people are saying but that movie is among the first meta action flicks of its era!
I still love the Dennis the Menace movie!

Those Colombia Home VHS tapes were so overpriced.
Can't get enough of Cheers or sonic still LOL
The main thing I remember about Last Action Hero is that they advertised it on the side of a space shuttle that went into orbit...I guess Columbia/Sony was going for the Martian Demographic?...
Too bad I was only 4 months old when these commercials aired. Man, I missed out on most of th 90s. From what my bf told me, the 90s were a great time.
Ah.. summer of 93... before I reported to the Army for basic training in 94.
Listening to music, I still would pick the Sony disc man and boom box over a phone any day. I miss those
I was actually thinking last night how I kind of miss portable CD players.

My first car was a 1991 Grand Am. Looked great but gave me so many headaches over the years!
Not seeing Last Action Hero in the theater being a big mistake? Yeah, about that.....
And now Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is on the Nintendo switch
That just feels so wrong still.. and I doubt I'll get used to it
@@Zaron_Gaming I played it on the PS3
Attending a meeting in your bare feets? It's the norm now!
I vividly remember every one of these
14:11 RIP Kirstie Alley.
I remember that Sonic 2 ad. I would never try to do any of that with my game case, but I did like how they had those plastic boxes to store your games. It was way better than the NES and SNES games.
remember when 1968 was 25 years ago?

Exerlopers...Anyone who tried to wear those were probably subjected to endless humiliation and beatings...from their friends, relatives, grandparents...
Great set of commercials.
Playing down Sleepless in Seattle in the ad, when it has become a huge hit and very well loved (a movie, funny enough, I have never seen)
I love this channel ❤️
LOL that CD commercial

@@80sCommercialVault that's what I get for trying to do math at 3 in the morning, lol.

I won't lie, I kind of want to try Exerlopers just to see how they fare.
Go right ahead, they're still being sold!
I always wanted them back then
Too bad Diet Squirt woman wasn't wearing Exerlopers. lol
Barq's Root Beer-A&W had more"bite" IMO

A&W never tasted as good as Barqs or MUG imo. The latter always tasted more vanilla-like, while A&W tasted kinda "lite".
The bite in Barqs is most likely the caffeine they put in it. A&W and Mug have no caffeine.
I remember first getting a Nordic Track in 94-95. I was quickly told not to use it after almost putting a hole in the wall when going too hard with the skis...

The 1993 re-release on VHS renamed the movie to be "Dennis The Menace: Dinosaur Hunter". They were clearly trying to cash in on those later movies.
What singer's and song name in Sony commercial?
Something made specifically for the commercial, apparently. I tried to Shazam it, but no dice 🤷🏾♂️, sorry
Last Action Hero was not a good movie even back then....😄
