I was born for this and Apotheosis get all of the attention on the Journey soundtrack but I really like this one. It's the closest thing to a spiritual experience I ever had in a video game.
Absolutely. By relinquishing a sense of identity in the game, it creates an entirely different perspective. Instead of playing with another person with a name, opinions, and a life of their own, you are playing with humanity. Not only do others adopt this role in your mind, you adopt the role of humanity as well. At that point it barely matters at all that you have never met this person. You have known that other player for your entire life. It's a beautiful experience that I will never forget.
You grew too proud of yourself, you slide down full of confident on your power, but when you could not get up from pit you fell, and walked on dark, scary hallways, you started to feel doubt on yourself. After you run from certain death and are saved, you are filled whit hope and inferiority on who you were. Then, you rise up and head on to tower, you have Atonement of your sins, and as pure you continue Journey on, while reflecting on what you did and how not to repeat those mistakes.
I remember this part! I had my little companion, "Apprentice" as I liked to call him, it was his first time playing the game and in the stage before this one he lost most of his scarf, and I guided him all the way up and helped him with his scarf, as he did sometimes himself, we were always helping us up and exploring, definitely the best Journey Companion I have ever had.
During this game, I met someone close to the beginning of the game and they were robed in white cloth, and had unlimited flying and the longest scarf ever. He helped me throughout the whole game because I'd never played it before yesterday. This part was my absolute favorite. And I remember, at the end, when we were walking through the snow through the mountain peak, he drew a heart in the snow, made that singing noise, and walked away. Such a perfect game. :')
How can this beautiful music bring tears to my eyes after so many times? I think Austin Wintory gets in touch with a field where our souls are naked and he caresses with his his notes.
And there you walk on coldly death, Of moment rest in slumber breath. Alone to move and fairness dash Of blizzard reign, remain to clash. Of longing near that which to seek, Beyond the light of greater meek. To know the path was closely near, For sins to come with frozen tear
When I played this for the first time, I decided to play online and I found this incredible partner. From the beginning he stayed with me throughout the entire game. He was really patient, waited for me when I was far behind. Even in the tower, He showed me places where I can lengthen my scarf. We died together and even reached the Mt. Together side by side. I loved that game! I think he was a Teacher...he wore a White Robe.
Great game, the first time i didn't really feel the emotional connection but the second time around i felt the emotion that the game should give you and in the end, when i arrived at the mountain with the companion player it was just so overwelming,. This game is one of the few video games that can actually be labled a piece of art.
Finally after 7 years waiting, I got to experience this masterpiece, and I just can't get over the fact that every time you play it's an unique experience, the people you meet there will be gone, you can try to find them, but it just feels weird. The emotional connection that the game creates between you and a stranger is surreal, definitely worth waiting 7 years to experience.
What I love about every song on this soundtrack is that they all feel connected, but none of them have a rhythm or a particular tune that defines this connection. Every song is so organic and fluid that there isn't anything to directly associate one song from another. Yet they all obviously belong together. This connection is most apparent between Nadir and Apotheosis, where the dark, tense atmosphere of the former helps to enunciate the gracious beauty of the latter.
I played the game for the first time last night after having listened to the OST since 2018. Went in completely blind and hadn't listened to the OST for a while. This song. That ascent. The murals. One of the greatest experiences I have ever had in a video game. I think something in me went to another plane of existence.
The music is gorgeus. What's more beautiful, in my opinion, is the satisfaction you get from helping people. The fact that you do it in total anonymity makes it... better.
I love the part that starts at 4:48. Its when you start to float across the cloth bridges. I was in aww hearing the achingly beautiful flute and the rhythm of the music. :)
Beginning at 4:53 this song just gets me, it fills me with another vigor to continue you on. I get excited for what is to come despite the troubles I know lay ahead.
I feel your pain. My first play through of this game wasnt good at all. My first partner wasnt even playing, they were ignoring me then sat down and never came back so I had to figure out what to do by myself. My next partner kept going forward and left me behind while I desperately tried to keep up. I eventually lost them too.. Once I got to the snow place/ending I was STILL alone. The second time I played this game it was MUCH better and I LOVED it..I just wish the first time much better.
I met a lovely companion today. They were new and clueless, so I showed them the ropes and we had a great time. I had to quit and leave them at this point, though and I felt so bad! I hate to have to stop when you find a loyal friend.
Simply gorgeous music with the artistry of Tina Guo/cello and Sara Andon/flutes. So glad they have added video game soundtracks as a possible best score into the Grammys.
I don't like this soundtrack. I don't like any of the music from Journey. Why? Because it makes me want to play... but it's 1:30am. Not fair at all. Other than that... I love this. It brings back good memories and new dreams.
I've never played the game, but I've seen a playthrough and talked to people who have played it. It can happen, yes, but not all the time. It depends on the person you are connected to, and that person switches each little level thing. Also, as you progress through the game, a mutual bond is usually formed, which is part of the magic of the game. You grow to depend on your partner to help you in tough times, as much as they depend on you. It's an amazing prospect, really. I think you'll be fine.
I thought it was amazing how the game's soundtrack changed based on the player's actions... this effect combined with music this powerful was really a staggering experience
And this, my children, is how you go for the Grammy =) But more than the prize, you get to touch hearts, shake them and make those stupid tears appear. Amazing, right?
Both of ThatGameCompany's big games - Sky and Journey - utilize the hero's journey - the ultimate myth - as a backbone. Amazing amazing stuff. You must die to live.
When I first played Journey, I was a confused mess all the way up to the tower. My partners up to then were unhelpful, racing far ahead and ignoring my pleas. Then I get a new partner to scale the tower. He was patient, guiding me through each step, showing a mural to me, leading me to a glyph to lengthen my pathetic scarf, even willing to rescale the tower when I made a mistake and fell. I don't know whom that amazing player was, but they made the game for me.
Yeah but outside, like the proms or something. So magical. I saw one before, think it was french, there was an orchesta outside a castle, then everyone went quiet, there was one man on a balcony red in the face playing the trumpet, It was so good that i watched until it finished
I am curious for thatgamecompany's next masterpiece, whatever it may be, its a shame it will not be as good as Journey, its just too overwhelming, emotional, breath taking and powerful.
This is the level where you climb the immense tower, I have to say the most beautiful and memorable part of this level is when the giant holy whale/shark creature joins you and lifts you up to the next area... which starts at 2:32 I believe
My companion in this part was mostly unfriendly. It was a difficult experience after having such welcoming companions previously. But I did my best to be friendly and soon this person warmed up to me (so to speak :) ) We ended up going the rest of the way together.
Gaëtan Thiebaut Yeah I saw this in concert (conducted by Austin Wintory himself!!), and the guys sitting behind me were like, "I will never understand this game." Like wow, your loss dude. =/
I was born for this and Apotheosis get all of the attention on the Journey soundtrack but I really like this one. It's the closest thing to a spiritual experience I ever had in a video game.
The best part of that whole level is seeing the murals of YOUR journey. It can be shared with another, but it is also yours.
Absolutely. By relinquishing a sense of identity in the game, it creates an entirely different perspective. Instead of playing with another person with a name, opinions, and a life of their own, you are playing with humanity. Not only do others adopt this role in your mind, you adopt the role of humanity as well. At that point it barely matters at all that you have never met this person. fancoy caress so deep! i got lost in the touch of the melody
And there you walk on coldly death,
Of moment rest in slumber breath.
Alone to move and fairness dash
Of blizzard reign, remain to clash.
Of longing near that which to seek,
Beyond the light of greater meek.
To know the path was closely near,
For sins to come with frozen tear

This song is just as beautiful as I remember😇
Originally it was Apotheosis that was the track that gave me tingles but the way this track slowly builds and builds up sends me shivers every time.

This is my favorite piece in the soundtrack
There should be a live concert for this. Full on orchestra on Bluray.
radioactivsmurf Austin Wintory is currently touring with Fifth House Ensemble to perform this live!
4:54 - At this point you're really gonna drown in something which you can hardly explain.
I played Journey, 3 times, and this happened twice, the first time I was the student, the second, I was the teacher.
Seems familiar
"We meet again, at last. The circle is now complete. When I met you I was but the learner. Now, *I* am the master."
funny, the white robed person i played with drew me a heart at the end too XD
2:32 is so beautiful
I really love this sudden change of tone at 1:58 and at 4:11.
This soundtrack is pure masterpiece ♡
Goosebumps every time... it brings tears to my eyes. This game has given me so much catharsis.
At 2:30 you can feel the feeling of ascension. The bells give me chills
I played the game for the first time last night after having listened to the OST since 2018. Went in completely blind and hadn't listened to the OST for a while. This song. That ascent. The murals. Austin Wintory is such an amazing composer :') I wish we played his music in band, because the emotion in his pieces is amazing.
I love the part that starts at 4:48. Its when you start to float across the cloth bridges. I was in aww hearing the achingly beautiful flute and the rhythm of the music. :)
the soundtrack is wonderful...

What a magestic beginning... This is almost number 1 beloved track in the collection..
I met a lovely companion today. They were new and clueless, so I showed them the ropes and we had a great time. I had to quit and leave them at this point, though and I felt so bad! I hate to have to stop when you find a loyal friend.
at 4:54, it sounds a bit like it could be in Ori and the Blind Forest XD
I love the violin in this song
4:54 I need more of it
Love that sound at 0:15,sounds like the instruments alive.
Love how the music on the game is effected by your progress.
This is the sort of song that makes me want to stop time, lay down and close my eyes for a moment.
You know, with the titles of the music in mind, each scene really gains a new meaning, no matter what your perspective was before.
This particular song actually moved me to tears.
Why? Why is it so beautiful?
Definitely deserves a grammy award!
This so reminds me of the OST to the movie Gattaca. Genius! I hope soon hollywood discovers austin's work.
I too hope Austin Wintory gets one...not only is he walking with giants (Hans Zimmer, etc.), but after this soundtrack he deserves to be among them.
No song has ever brought me to tears in the first 15 seconds but this. Incredible. :D
damn, this just motivated me to play the game, thanks
np :)
i was replaying this game and at this point i fell insleep with this soundtrackXD
Simply gorgeous music with the artistry of Tina Guo/cello and Sara Andon/flutes. So glad they have added video game soundtracks as a possible best score into the Grammys.
I don't like this soundtrack. I don't like any of the music from Journey.

Not fair at all. Other than that... I love this. It brings back good memories and new dreams.
Austin Wintory is the calm version of Thomas Bergersen from Two Steps From Hell.
This is such a great game. Definitely underrated and deserves so much attention.

So beautiful
beautiful and spiritual
4:54 I would love to see extended it's so peaceful.
I thought it was amazing how the game's soundtrack changed based on the player's actions... this effect combined with music this powerful was really a staggering experience
My favorite song in the game without a doubt
Imagine my surprise when I saw a creature from Flow in that chamber.
I love this Music!!! Stunning Beauty
beautiful
And this, my children, is how you go for the Grammy =) But more than the prize, you get to touch hearts, shake them and make those stupid tears appear. Amazing, right?
This is my favorite part of the game! Too bad it ends so fast. :( The music is soo beautiful!
Most of the track titles use terms from the monomyth, "Atonement", "Apotheosis" etc. etc.
Both of ThatGameCompany's big games - Sky and Journey - utilize the hero's journey - the ultimate myth - as a backbone. Amazing amazing stuff. You must die to live.
Hard to pick favorites from this soundtrack because it is so good. This one takes the cake though!
When I first played Journey, I was a confused mess all the way up to the tower. My partners up to then were unhelpful, racing far ahead and ignoring my pleas. Then I get a new partner to scale the tower.

i hereby unofficially declare journey to be the best game ever!
"On these pure white wings,
lifted gently by the wind,
beside you I glide,,
toward that land of summer,
'tween the twain blues' soft embrace"
I love Song
Thats incredible ! sound almost to good to be true !
He might have been crying uncontrollably into his hands. It seemed like almost everyone who played this game finished it overwhelmed with emotion.
I am curious for thatgamecompany's next masterpiece, whatever it may be, its a shame it will not be as good as Journey, its just too overwhelming, emotional, breath taking and powerful.
ME TOO! but my symphonic band doesn't use stringed instruments T_T but my life would be fulffilled if we could play a journey song by austin wintory
Atonement:
satisfaction or reparation for a wrong or injury; amends.
LIE DOWN
TRY NOT TO CRY
CRY A LOT
There is more life and empathy to that "whale" then any of the characters in the call of duty games.
Sands drift in the wind
It will not fly forever
Yet it flies again
This is the level where you climb the immense tower, I have to say the most beautiful and memorable part of this level is when the giant holy whale/shark creature joins you and lifts you up to the next area... which starts at 2:32 I believe
Is this from the part at the top of the tower? I love that part, Together with the ending it's the most beautiful part of the game....
2:32 My favorite part :3
My companion in this part was mostly unfriendly. It was a difficult experience after having such welcoming companions previously. But I did my best to be friendly and soon this person warmed up to me (so to speak :) ) We ended up going the rest of the way together.
"And then reality is unveiled.
What did you seek...
What did you see...
What did you hear...
What did you think...
What did you do..."
Im a man. Dont get emotional and start crying.... (pauses)
SCREW DAT
WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Why were these deleted from Spotify? I can't play any of the tracks.
Trope Talk on The Hero's Journey brought me here :D
skimven4242564 same
Does anyone know the name of the track that played when you were underground or under water or something.....
It was both if you can believe it.
Dont they show the "companions" at the end of the game? Or did you turn off your console at the time?
From 2:30 my favorite part starts.
exactly what happened.
Yeah, the best part of the entire game imo.
it's "lie down", actually.
Urm I think 8,700 4 star(or higher) user reviews as well as the millions of purchases proves that's bullshit
You mean the carpet dragon?
i have it
4:52
i can show u how to get the white cloak
Some people know how to play this game, but others are to narrow minded to really understand (in my mind though).
Gaëtan Thiebaut Yeah I saw this in concert (conducted by Austin Wintory himself!!), and the guys sitting behind me were like, "I will never understand this game."
Like wow, your loss dude. =/
@ThePaleAmethyst it was me lol
Whoops you are right .-.
My fault x|
I highly recommend going to video 18 by this account and take a look at the top comment
^^
Does anybody else think that this would be an awesome score for a sex scene in a movie?
Man, good to know I wasn't the only one who thought that...
