The great thing about 1950s and 60s rock & roll hits is it's easy to make them appealing again for modern tadtes. Using more modern instruments and sound system and speeding up the tempo is enough to make them really cool. The likes of Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Beach Boys and so on knew what they were doing.
I grew up with this song, when the movie came me and my baby daughter Amanda watched the movie, she still loves til today,and now my granddaughter of 13 years old likes the killer too. 3 generations

When the film was about to be made, the producers fully intended to let Dennis Quaid do his own singing, because they thought Jerry Lee Lewis couldn't sing the way he used to. Lewis's retort was basically, "Wanna bet". Lewis proved that he could still sing and play the piano as well as he ever could, and he did all of the singing and piano playing for Quaid in the film.
Nobody ever seems to mention but that is also some AWESOME guitar playing in that song. I know it's all about the piano but got to give props to the guitar.
