If I had an RGB Blaster I’d remix the shim thing so that it extends past the RGB Blaster and swallows any Famicom cartridge you put on top… much like a Sega 32X or Game Doctor SF7.
I always find it so cool that the retro gaming community keeps making efforts to bring old tech to the modern age with HDMI mods or wireless controllers
All I want is videos from this channel wish I could fund an entire staff for him. I could spend hours a day listening & watching modding news & details. I want 3+ videos a day to be satisfied
As usual--- thanks for the updates. 1 -I REALLY want to see the new wii mod passed through mike's retrotink prototype. 2 - also keeping my eye on the genesis mod....with a (probably misplaced) hope it can be worked into a 32x revision.
I own a madcatz bluetooth controller that also has a setting for mouse control when it's connected to a PC, along d-input and x-input modes. In mouse mode the left stick basically functions like an oversized trackpoint and A, B, and I believe X are left, right, and middle mouse click. My controller didn't have a mouse wheel assigned but I'm guessing it shouldn't be hard to throw that somewhere either. But I'm assuming this 3D printed controller will have similar support. I can definitely see that being useful for PC gaming where you can use it as a mouse in case you're playing a game that suddenly requires the mouse for something.
Isn’t Electron Shepherd’s Wii HDMI mod another based on GCVideo and WiiDual? If so, there are actually more than one of those including WiiHDMI from Arthrimus. Other than the flex for universal installation, I haven’t heard anything that would distinguish it. I see many are “waiting” for it since they seem to be under the impression that there aren’t others already available if you have the right PCB revision. I haven’t seen anyone say this yet but one advantage of the new flex is that the vias are not tinned with lead free solder which means you can use any solder you want on those, lead or lead free. There are even bare voltage and ground connections available. The controller test point was always bare. You still might want to use lead free for the HDMI mount but that not really an electrical connection anyway (just structural). There’s also the one wire I see going to the AV port but I think that’s voltage which you can get elsewhere. FWIW, I use “bare” to mean “not tinned with solder” but they are usually electroplated gold. For anyone who doesn’t know, BlackDogTech updated the WiiDual install guide a while back to suggest using lead free solder since mixing solder chemistries can cause undesirable results down the line. It’s not just the via soldering versus soldering to the legs that makes WiiDual more difficult. :( Of course, WiiDual can’t avoid that for all the AV port soldering since it has to do all the analog stuff too.
I have had a WiiDual for years and the fact that it is lag-less is really important to me. Has anyone lag tested this? I know Dan and the PixelFX team are going to release a new GC and Wii Digital mod with upscaling like the N64 and other devices. But I might consider this for a spare Wii to sell or gift a friend.
I think if you mod a early revision Wii you should first find a way to test if it has any gpu damage from running wiiconnect24 for a period of time (which originally would power down the bulk of the system but keep the chips going building up heat, with the fan powered off believe it or not). I think a later firmware update fixed the fan being shut off but most games don't seem display issues. However, something like Skyward Sword pushes the GPU heavily and most people, including myself, who had incurred damage to their gpu only discovered it then (heavy white/black dots around the screen in weird/random patterns). I bring this up because it would really suck to get your wii modded and discover this after the fact and have no clue as to what was causing it. It's a great mod to be available to all revisions of the Wii, but I think more need to know about this potential issue.
I'm curious about the Genesis HDMI kit. Would it be compatible with the Triple Bypass mod? I recall when I did mine, I had to remove several components. I'm hoping that my Genesis is still able to receive the HDMI mod.
HDMI on Wii would be easier than Wii U. With the Wii, you can just load games directly through a USB loader, no issue. For Wii U, you have to either convert games to the Wii U format or use a USB loader through vWii but you can't use the same storage for Wii U and vWii and you get asked to format any non-Wii U ext. drives when you boot the Wii U. I believe there is a way around the prompt but you still can have multiple usb drivers plugged in. You basically need to have a Wii U function as a dedicated Wii.
Some of what you said is true, some isn't. My Wii U I modded myself with ease, external HDD via back rear usb port for WiiU games, and an SD card in the front for Wii games via vWii. No prompts to format the sd card when I boot up the wiiU, for me. I did nothing special to remove the prompt you are saying exists, either. You may want to find another guide.
@@TheOnlySaneOneLeft I was only talking about external drives including USB flash drives and externally powered SSD/HDD. Yes you can use the SD Card for Wii/GC games but it is not external. Also, large good quality SD cards are not cheap. I got a 512GB Samsung SD Card for $50 on sale, $80+ off sale. A 1TB SD card can cost more than $150. A 2TB ext drive can be had for $60-$70 which is way more cost effective.
@@GiSWiG A lot of hassle to avoid using an SD card. I got a 500gb for $40, what do you want to load a bunch of shovelware and sports games on there? I promise people won't make fun of you for being selective.
the HDMI mod will by pass the poor internal DAC i believe. This means the video output is digital to digital rather than digital -> poor DAC -> back to digital.
Great coverage. The Genesis video mod is VERY interesting to me.
Same here, analogue can sod off
The lord himself!
@@guyverjay1289 The original analog video will remain the same after the HDMI modification.
@@stan_prh - i meant the company 🤣

Haha maybe some day
I look forward to these every week! Today Im doing the n64 bluetooth dongle mod you did a video on! :)
Thank you for making this video. Hopefully this Wii HDMI mod will come out very very soon.
Very interested in the Wii HDMI mod! Love to use my wii for retro gaming.
Thanks for this week's retro updates!

Dude, it's phenomenal.... You have no idea!
I'm extremely excited for that wii hdmi mod from ElectronShepherd!
Happy New Year to you and your loved ones! ^____^
The two things I want from a wii mod, is ability to output hdmi and analog simultaneously, and making the component output better
The Wii dual already does this
@phonedork I thought the wii dual was discontinued

Yea it could be. I don’t think there’s been a steady supply of any of the Wii HDMI mods
I sure as hell do I bought a Wii due to the fact that it's a more powerful GC 😁. I'll for sure be looking into this

Just use a mclassic on your wii

I hope the GCLoader attention means there may be more coming out soon.

Hello. HDMI modification has nothing to do with analog video and will not affect it. So nothing needs to be deleted.

With the Wii U already having Wii HDMI out I don't need the Wii mod.
I'm in the same boat. But there are zillion Wiis out there and relatively few Wii Us, so mods like this do make sense in the big picture.
Does it work for the Wii mini?
What does the hdmi mod do that is better than what the wii2hdmi adapter does?

Dunno why you'd put any effort into supporting the GC loader at this point lol. It essentially doesn't exist
