Turning by hand is a special treat when working with metal on an engineering lathe, but it's the norm when woodworking, where natural variations in density and grain structure mean that everything's done by 'feel' and the lathes have no mechanical feeds at all.
I used to enjoy machining one particular timber on my old Myford, though, and that was African Blackwood. It's so astonishingly dense that turning it is very much like working with brass, so it was actually best worked on an engineering lathe.
Mother Nature has a weird sense of humour.
Incidentally, 2:25 looks like the face of a surprised man with a handlebar moustache...😲
