I struggled with this for so long. I'm thankful for The Church I'm in now. I never cared about the entertainment of The Church. Friends you can make anywhere, but we need to be careful where we plant our roots. I care more about sound doctrine. I think something that should be said that wasn't mentioned is that people should be in a Church where they're encouraging people to be disciples of Jesus and use their giftings outside the Church too. I serve in my Church, but I like to serve outside the walls of Church too. It helps diversify your community and perspectives. These points are bang on though. I always struggled to find a Church that is so rooted in believing all of the Bible. That is why its good to read God's word because when we go to Church are we notice some truths missing, we can pray and discern if we're meant to be there, to begin with or need to go elsewhere.

In my search I was drawn to 2 key things. First, in Matthew 16 Jesus gives us His Church and even calls it “My Church”.He said the gates of hades would not prevail over it. So He gave it perpetuity. Second in John 16:13 He left the Holy Spirit to lead and guide it to all Truth. Paul reinforces this in 1 Timothy 3:15 telling us the Church is the pillar and foundation of Truth. So the Church I’m looking for is the one Christ Himself started, has been around since the upper room, and teaches Truth, even though I may not like it.
I want a Church that is right when I’m wrong, not one that is wrong when I think I’m right (it’s not about me).
    Thanks for the video

Due to health issues, family problems and problems at my previous church, the question of churchgoing has haunted me.
I've been praying for guidance on this: and I ask any reading to also pray for me here. I want to glorify God with my life and not disobey Him.

Thank you so much for answering this! I joined a church a year and a half ago and found that the church was progressively getting concert like and started having merchandise as it was getting popular. You need to feel comfortable and welcomed as everyone in the church was sticking in their groups and not healthy. I'm from the UK and found the churches that are the best are the Church of England. As independent churches here can be more like concerts and less of spreading God's word.

I truly get you. I've experienced the same in more than one church that I've been too, and now here in Peterborough. People getting into cliques, because the word of God isn't being preached, no mention of sin as far as I remember. They're not heretics, but they have lost the fire seemingly and have become lukewarm like the church in Laodicea that Jesus warned. I recently saw a clip of a pastor who left the church of England complaining of the increasing liberal views of sexuality and other matters. A lot of western churches just become comfortable because of prosperity, and who am I to judge, I've been too comfortable too.
But I did find a small gathering of believers where I heard the word faithfully preached, it was great to be with fellow believers, not perfect as no church is, but I will be going back.

And the true church is the whole body of Christ, not just you alone. That's why we gather in churches, to celebrate Christ as the husband of the church. The following paragraph was just an example of something I just read.
When an abuser refuses to change his ways, stop abusing, and start doing good, we are unable to grant him forgiveness. When we cannot forgive him because of his intention to continue repeating his wickedness, then God does not forgive him, either. AGAIN JESUS SAID, “PEACE BE WITH YOU! AS THE FATHER HAS SENT ME, I AM SENDING YOU.” AND WITH THAT HE BREATHED ON THEM AND SAID, “RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT. IF YOU FORGIVE ANYONE HIS SINS, THEY ARE FORGIVEN; IF YOU DO NOT FORGIVE THEM, THEY ARE NOT FORGIVEN”….John 20: 21-22 NIV.
But we also are told, we are to forgive, because if we do not, we ourselves won't be forgiven by God.

Requiring an abuser to change his ways implies that you are without fault. If you involve yourself with someone that you deem toxic, then you assume all responsibility for that person. Offer your peace. If it is refused, then you must walk away. The question still remains...what does your “peace” require? The scripture you offered is testament to the fact that we can know true forgiveness. Obviously, no man has the power to forgive sin, but we can identify with sin as advocates for forgiveness.....NOT as judges!

I hear ya!! We left our church I grew up in because it had cult tendencies and legalism and it got so bad we had to separate. My baby at 3months old was yanked out of her highchair by a young guy all church members at a home for 4th of July.. I had to use the bathroom and folks offered to sit and watch her. I specifically said not to take her out. He didn’t know to pull out the tray and she got welts across her legs and only 3months old. Everyone around laughed at me while my baby screamed in pain. They all mocked me and said I was “overreacting” I tried to nurse her in the car while I missed the fireworks, it didn’t help so I had to leave to go home to get her pain medicine, we tried ice pack too. No one apologized for their behavior. I overlooked how I was treated at my wedding shower and my baby shower but this did it for me.

We found a new church but as I look around there is no perfect church. I prayed that God would lead us to a church where we can grow and that teaches scriptures as accurately as possible. We once went to a harmful church worse than the one I grew up in. God protected us and has brought us “out of the pit” after that one. It was a Baptist Church. Very legalistic and very shady with kids fellowship and protocols. I felt in my spirit that church had sexual sins. They always has a lice issue in their church too! Gross, none of the ladies thought it was a problem, the mom that worked for a daycare always brought it from work and she always had on dirty clothes and volunteered for the church daycare! Just from a human point of view it looked off. Spiritually it was rancid!

@@chaimomma9198 our Holy Spirit really gives us a feeling when something isn't right so I suggest to always listen to those warnings. I too, when i became a seventh day adventist, something is off. Instead of being excited to go to church i was filled with anxiety and never really get to close with other members. Maybe it was just me, but the fact that nothing change after i got baptized then there's definitely something's wrong. Especially when i became worst of a person that i was!!! And because of those big sins i made, sooner or later i became drown with self condemnation for the sins i made and also for not following the laws they put that im not used to.. srsly tho. Churches nowadays, instead of unity, they're putting a barrier or standard that u have to be like this or that. Which isn't right. Jesus did not ever show partiality. Not ever did he bring up their sins before healing them but today's church is a big nono. Really hard to trust any church anymore.

Something I'm trying to learn about the, loving our enemies. How come there's verses that say something like if someone does something and doesn't repent consider them dead and have nothing to do with them. Or controversial people. I'd assume these types of people fits the criteria of enemies. You can't exactly love anyone who has to be cut off. How is it that we should love them when clearly you can read that the Bible states you must not even consider these people? Also that we should feed our enemies if they are hungry, but that heaps coals on their head. If we truly loved them why would we want that? I've read that perhaps this thing about coals is really a blessing. Maybe that's true but just reading it straight forward it seems that we feed them and do something good, but in turn are creating a fire upon them. Just seems counter productive if the feeding them just has the overall burning effect. Maybe the coals makes them consider their actions, but it doesn't say that.

Loving ones enemies is only achievable by embracing the discipline of self denial. Until we discover just how much we love ourselves it is impossible to see the other guy clearly.
Are you willing to search out your love for yourself? It can be quite disquieting...

Are you insisting we have to begin to not love ourselves? I've gone through some toxic relationships, nothing too serious but toxic enough. Most people say we must begin to love ourselves and see ourselves as important, and break away from such people. It's like we get involved with bad people because we think we aren't worth better. I'd assume that's why most people say to think ourselves as something good, and I'd assume that means beginning to love ourselves a lot more.

Loving self goes without saying. Loving self void of malice does not. Love is not a defensive posture...quite to the contrary.
We are not everyone’s doormat nor should we adopt a victims mentality. There are no “toxic” relationships. That would require you to question your judgement. There is only learning. It IS however, advantageous to associate with those who are excellent students of life...particularly if that relationship is a romantic one.

My problem is, I want to start a church in my area that is based on reformed doctrines, because there is literally none here. I have searched for a Calvinistic church, and the only one I have found is a Landmark Baptist, but they are dispensational and hold to a lot of Scofield's beliefs. There is an Orthodox Presbyterian church about 40 miles away, but they put so much emphasis on sprinkling Baptism that I am turned off almost every time I attend. I live in Eastern KY by the way. I wonder if I have proper authority, because the last church I was a member of said that even though I was qualified to pastor there, I am not qualified to start my own church. Their belief is that a church must start another church, as this is where the authority lies. Any advice?

His should be the only opinion that counts. He qualifies you. 😊. Anyway I have seen good churches grow from home fellowships. You can kickstart a home fellowship and invite believers in your area. It will definitely grow organically that way. Blessings. And remember, Holy Spirit.
