Jason Koppel Dog Days isn't that bad. I would have expected more people to skip over "The Whole World is Watching" but I'm not sure people even gave it a listen.
I personally thought The Unforgiving was a lot more well thought, good lyrics and had a nice theme. This isn't bad but I know WT can do so much better ^_^
The demo version (in my opinion) wasn't really that heavy, the drums, sounded fake (as well as Dog Days demo version), but this, beyond what I was expected! And Let Us Burn demo version, I thought it was actually the official, I didn't really know how WT could have advanced Let Us Burn, because the demo it'self was so perfect! Thank you WT!!!

I think they are all great.. and Hydra is a great album ;-)

I don't know why people say the growling doesn't fit with the song. This song is pretty clearly about being between a rock and a hard place about fighting against opposition a song about being in a desperate situation against great odds "I'm hellbound in this life, keep fighting this endless war" 'Going down I won't bow NO! "Screaming at the walls of fire they're closing in on me" The growling captures the screaming and raging against the constant obstacles in your way and the fact that despite all your efforts you're gaining little ground the walls of fire are closing in but you're still fighting to get out the girt and determination, the battle cry, the pain of the fight, the exertion. IMO the growling couldn't fit any better in this song.

Marc Ruiz I'm not a rap fan in any sense of the word(aside from Eminem being a guilty pleasure ever once in a while), however that should not prevent Within Temptation from branching out their sound. or at least experimenting with it. Would you rather them be stagnant and not develop any further than Heart of Everything? You should give And We Run a chance. It's different, yet it surprisingly works.
I've been a fan of this band since about 2007. I'm not a big fan of growlers (or grunters) I think they're called. However, I have listened to this album every day at least once since I got it on the 12th. My only complaint is, what's up with the rapper?!
I have only been a fan of WT for about 2 weeks, which meant I have grown accustomed to Angels, Mother Earth, Faster, What Have You Done, etc so when I bought Hydra I missed the choral/goth/orchestra feel......seeing them live on 11th April so hope I'm not disappointed :-)
In my opinion, the older albums sound more "Evanescence"-y with most of those songs being more mellow, orchestrated and, dare I say, emo-ish. It's not that they're bad. I really loved the Heart of Everything Album. But this album has a lot more emphasis on their rock and metal aspects, which I enjoy. But that's probably just a matter of taste when it comes to the difference in these albums.

I think the demo version was better. It sounded cleaner and robert's long growling part was substituted by a simple guitar solo with less appeal than the growling, considering within temptation hasn't used that resource since Enter.
Trollaukinn I only discovered WT this past Christmas day. Whatever album it is, i love them. I honestly like this newer one a little more than the others.
In their earliest albums, there was growling too, and I think it actually contrasts quite nicely with Sharon den Adel's voice. Not every ones' thing, I know, but I like it.

They are used to empathize a word or a phrase, and when done well and on time, they can make a song feel powerful. I have yet to find a female singer that can sing like this and then growl a little.
Potter TheAvenger Nightwish's new singer Floor Jansen. Saw her live and she threw me for a loop. Arch Enemy's new vocalist when she was with The Agonist (look up Thank You Pain), Arkona's singer's pretty good, that's just off the top of my head but there's quite a bit if you actually look for them.
Robert Westerholt, her husband, founder and now ex-member of the band. He used to travel around with the band and perform live, but has stopped to take care of the kids at home.
he is only working with the band in the studio. thats why his growls are on this album. eventhough he doesn't tour with the band anymore as said before ;)
