So pure and shimmering. An amazing group. Ahmad is a legend, as great and more subtle than Herbie and Chick. Saw him in Pittsburgh (his home town) 12 years ago, and was floored by the beauty. My girlfriend, who had never heard live jazz, was speechless. Almost a religious experience listening to him.
This is one of my favourites ever and my son who is autistic as a wee little guy around two and a half this and Robert Rich songs were among the only things that could calm him down and then he'd smile. Glory! Thanks for posting this.
One of the best videos here on youtube. Three players, each of them highy inspired, in the incredible setting of Baalbek. A particular mention to the bass player, James Cammack.
I heard this song this morning on the jazz station when I was driving to work with my dad. Normally I snooze during the commute, but when this song came on I was all ears. The drums are more than toe-tapping worthy; the piano melody is infectious; the bass is like sitting in a relaxing bubble bath in a spa. Amazing. Simply A-MAZING.
I've been listening to Ahmad Jamal since I was a kid in 1958. Heard him in Paris "live" later at the Blue Note Cafe when I was in school there. Then in NYC, and here in LA. He's an old friend by now, and Poinciana by Ahmad, Idris and James will live forever in the annals of great music! Frank Lutz.
Ahmad Jamal Trio thank you so much for this superb instrumental jazz piece that reminds me of my beautiful mother(no ordinary love)...I miss her!!! With all my heart, Ms. Tomi Goodman
This is a marvelous rendition of Poinciana! All three are in harmonious communication! This is my favorite, absolutely beautiful!! It is captured for all time.
This is (rhythmically, at least) the most faithful rendition to the 'Pershing Lounge' LP version; Mr. Muhammed has faithfully rendered Vernell Fournier's sound. You may as well set your watches to him, so precise is his playing. This tune is about the beauty of restraint, and all the glorious notes in between.
The true brilliance of this trio is that they are SO tight........and make it look easy........
Wonderful.........
The best arangement
Lets go to Poinciana. I feel the trade winds I smell the jasmine. I feel young again.
Cammack and Muhammed are just monsters of groove. Jamal is great that its easy to miss how sweet the band is.

Absolutely amazing playing from all 3 musicians!
Amazing, I have no words to describe it......just talent
My memory is of the original Poinciana I've lived with that song my whole life and am passing it on to my grandchildren.. Ahmad Jamal, wrote the book.

The beauty and swing of this song brings tears to my eyes. The best dynamics and the best group interaction. Just perfect!
This makes me smile.

Ahmad Jamal's playing is like fine wine. It improves with time. This can be noticed by listening to Ahmad's various recordings of this song.
RIP IDRIS. You gave us so much.
out of all the poinciana performances on youtube - this one is my favorite - it also has something to do with the the bass - great job on the bass.
