My first husband was physically, mentally, financially abusive. One day our 5 year old told him to take his hand off his mother. He pulled back his fist. I grabbed my son and locked myself in the bedroom. He left. I went to the cabinet to find his gun. Fortunately it wasn't there! I finally ended the marriage.

@@dsusan17 unfortunately sometimes they change for the worse sometimes the better. Marrying my wife almost 23 years ago made me a better person, and I will forever be grateful to her for that.

@@dalefleming6427 in my experience it's ALWAYS for the worst if they have made it down the road to DV my dad and all of his brothers but one were that way they all changed alright they got worse and worse only exception would be a 15 or 16 year old that hasn't grown up yet

This song has always meant alot to me, for personal reasons & you're very right about it applying to DB for same sex relationships, it happened to my best friend in one, she was so scared at the time to tell anyone she was being abused much less leave even though she had a safe spot with my family. Always look for things like that & protect others 💙

My favorite song by Nickelback! This song is so underrated! Loved watching you hearing and seeing the lyrics. Exactly how I reacted when I first heard it.
Nickelback has some deep messages in some of their songs. Some are just fun and nostalgic and others are hard rock with bad habits. But the mix of music they have is as diverse as life and covers a lot everyone experiences.

Love Nickelback, great reaction. I knew a man whose wife was abusive, hit him and threw things at him, he was a big powerful guy and was afraid he would really hurt her if he defended himself, but she just got worse. He finally left her to protect himself, abuse is ALWAYS wrong.

Yes too bad Is my other fav nickleback song. And I admit I liked their newer shit, before it was cool again. But as someone who was.trafficked and beaten starting at 3, and my mom beaten badly beginning when I was 3, this has a weird soft spot for me. Honestly I wish I could give my ex stepdad the excuse my second stepdad had, which was addiction, bc he was the father of my baby sister. Who loves her dad. And he was different for her. Thank God. I hate him for what what he did to my mom. And worse for what he did to me. But this is the same rapist who taught me to ride a bike too. So I loved him too. And still kind of do. Mostly bc of him, do I not forget my love for.ppl.. or forgive them for.their horrors against me. But all that being said I wanted to.kill him too. I fantasized about it was fucking too much. Prob like most kids of abuse do.

Can remember when I got this album. Never again was the first time I really realised you can tell a story through music.
One of my favorite songs from nickelback.
As soon as he realized the topic of the song, he immediately began speaking the truth about domestic violence, keep your hands to yourself, or get yourself messed up by someone else. I grew up within a dysfunctional family, mainly because of my dad. He was very verbally and emotionally abusive, but not physically. The worst he ever did physically was backhanding me. When it gets to the bridge, I really feel that. He never hit my mom or sister, and he never would, I know that. But he definitely hit me and my brothers. I didn’t get it as bad as my brothers because I’m the youngest, he had calmed down a lot before I was born.

I am a survivor of domestic abuse. My father was a total pos and I found this song the night he was finally removed from moms house. That was 2 years ago and me and my family still have severe ptsd from what he’s done to us. If I even see his car drive by I go into a full panic attack. This songs lyrics are so emotional coming from the scared kid to afraid to report the abuse towards his family.

Fully agree 100 percent, don't hit anyone. Men that hit women shouldn't and women that think they can hit their men, when they know that man won't hit them back, is equally bad and same sex relationships. Keep your hands to yourself and if your relationship is so toxic that you actually think about hitting your partner, it's time to end things

Holla....just so you know brother, sometimes the smaller guy is the more dangerous person, I have beat down in my fighting days guys bigger and the biggest beat down I got one on one was a guy quite a bit smaller than me....but usually the bigger guy wins.
I was a bouncer for a decade, so I was regularly in some pretty serious fights. One of only 2 where I got absolutely wrecked, the other guy was maybe half my weight and a full foot shorter than me 😐

It goes both ways though. But on the man's side it's ignored until he fights back. After that he goes to prison for domestic abuse while she lives pretty on the settlement check. That is not how it always happens. But someone needs to point out the fact that men are not immune to domestic abuse. I was a victim. My ex wife cheated constantly and verbally abused me on social media. Glad to be rid of that C*&%. If anybody has a problem with that comment, I have a special comment box for you... 🗑
This is the ONLY Nickelback song I think is really good! Their other songs just sound boring. Everything about this song .... the lyrics, the driving beat, etc., appear to me to be written by someone who has BEEN through the experience of watching their mother getting abused by the young boy's father or maybe a boyfriend. I don't think this song gets enough credit for the story it tells.
