Yes depending on what the malocclusion is caused by jaw surgery may the best option. For example if the bad bite is being caused by misaligned teeth then orthodontic treatment such as braces can solve the problem. However in this case the problem was the position of the jaw which needed to be moved to help align it with her upper jaw
It is important to be gentle and not to brush over the top of the stitches. After brushing it is recommended to use mouth wash to prevent any inflammation
