I’m from Switzerland, living in the US for almost 30 years, and I grew up seeing this, then ugly cars on our narrow roads almost every day. I’m a Ford guy and building me a vintage race car using a 63 Falcon Sprint. I have to tell you, this is probably the cooles little Hot Rod you had on your show! Love it, great find!
A few weeks back, I made a comment stating this was the best channel on RUclips. Well, I was wrong. It is way better than that! Keep bringing the oddballs, the owner fabricated/built hotrods, and even a few mainstream rides!
I remember the Dauphin. I don't remember anyone I knew driving one, but I saw some around. Maybe I remember the advertisements for them. Wow! That was a long time ago. I remember making several long road trips, like Oxnard, CA to South Mississippi and back, before there were inter-state highways. We all chose a type of car, then counted them as we saw them. Turning the odometer over in our '58 Impala station wagon was a group partition countdown. We had a gallon cider jug with a cork, for my two brothers and me to pee in. Odd how something's, such as this video, trigger strong reminiscences. I love what the builder did on this rig. Just pure balls out fun!
Crazy little car. Put a bunch of par6ts together properly and you can get a really kickass car. My Mom had a little Renault Gordini back in the late 70's. Crazy little car. Had to heat the motor during the winter so it would not freeze and start in the morning. Remember going out to the garage after dinner, putting a tarp around the motor with a 100W bulb inside and tying the tarp with straps. Was just enough warmth to stop it from freezing. And had to unwrap it every morning after breakfast. Be safe and stay well.
Man, I haven't had time to catch any of your videos, but I did see this on your Instagram and I knew I had to watch it as soon as you added this video. I can't describe how much I love this ride, a new form of inspiration, thank you very much.
Buhahahhaa! Brilliant. You just made an old man very happy. My friend’s mum, Mrs Betts, drove me to school in a Renault Dauphin back in the 70’s in SE London. Would love to drive your ‘interpretation on the theme’ screaming down Hurst Road once more.
Who doesn't love a VR?!?!? It would be rather simple to go to a 3.6 'big block' for even more power. The RPF-1's look badass on there, and the cantilever/ tube chassis is awesome. Nice fab work. The functionality is definitely on point. Looks fun AF to drive. The Quaife or Peloquin (whichever it has,) is such a welcome upgrade for sure. Imagine the VR with a 30 or 35R strapped to it... I've built my share of VR swapped cars, some all-motor, some F.I. My first and favorite personal build was a 12v AAA all-motor fully-built internal with 02A/ TDI 5th/ Peloquin in my '91 GLI. What a great daily that hauled ass for N.A. and got close to 30 mpg. The boosted ones are especially a blast if you have the resources to keep the trans in one piece. Hardened straight-cut gears and H.D. axles from someone like driveshaft shop, get to be a necessity when you are at 450-500whp+. You get massive props for building such a unique project. I wholeheartedly approve 👍👍😎🤙🤙
This is Awesome! France is like 2 hours from over here, and the few times i/we do see this make and model. It's grandma's.. solely the elder-editions 💪🏽
Elle est magnifique "LA BRUTE" 😅... Et dire qu'en France on n'a même plus le droit de rouler avec ces voitures là...😥... Alors Bravo, votre passion nous sauve tous de l'absurdité...😊
Nice build! I love this kind of custom. And the engine setup is really cool. I've got also a VR6 in my Golf mk1 and my sharan. The sound is just awesome.
Wow HUUUGE RESPECT for builder of this epic piece of vehicle! ...such a great project! il est trop fort ce guy ! le travail est énorme. il devrait commercialiser le kit chassis . je fais le cheque de suite. encore chapeau bas ! Strong congratulations .
This made me remember of a project from here, someone got a VW "Coffin Joe" and installed a BMW V12 at the front. And there's a Willys Gordini (basically an improved version of the Renault Dauphine built here in Brazil by Willys) with a turbocharged VW EA-827 1.8L at the rear, pushing some 300 hp.

My sister's boyfriend had a Dauphine, and after they were married, they loaded it with all they owned and drove from Seattle to Wisconsin- it was a miracle they made it.
I'm not usually a fan of the "Patinaed rat" look, but on that car it just works SO well. Hat's off to the owner. They've built something truly jealousy inducing.
Que loco un Gordini, en mi hubo muchos de estos autos, ahora no se encuentran muchos, pero vi en excelente condiciones y originales como salieron de fabrica.
I actually rolled one of them when i was a teen, on the standard model if you do around 40mph and pull full r/h turn on sand they will role 2 complete turns and land on there wheels, then you turn the key to restart and drive it home with a custom 3" roof lowered at the front. It worked for me but Mum wasn't happy 50+ years ago
Very creative on the plate. LA BRUTE can have many meanings. The LA can be Los Angeles a brute in LA or the whole thing can mean bully in french for your french Renault. Clever!

I'm from Morocco, and I am very happy to see finally a car that we all know very well. What an amazing old French car!
One of the coolest retro power i ever seen....This Renault has an unique 4 door cabine design....Amazing build !!

Well done.
Absolutely gorgeous.
love the luggage rack ! Seriously fits the car perfect.
It really does. And this is coming from a guy that personally isn’t a fan of the luggage rack look but it suits this car perfectly.
The VR6 is the best sounding engine ever. Love this build

Close, but Renault V10 F1 engine will always be the best automotive sound you'll ever hear...

I love the Sound!!!!!! my neighbour had one, it was called "Gordini", You make a fantastic job. Greetings from Argentina
He sure did build a cool ride here

Dauphine Gordini, R8 Gordini, R12 Gordini, etc

Great build. Out of the box thinking. This is exactly what the custom car world needs.
Listen to that sound... it's the reason I still have my 03 GLI til this day.
This little beast, has some F1 sound, good job!👏😄
vr6 is a cool engine for sure. crazy to think it's already 30 years old.
Man I miss the glorious noise of a VR6!! Great build all around, I love every single aspect of it!
We love the VR6, one of the best Engines VW has produced. This is just a sick build
It has a very unique sound for sure! Almost sounds like a supra but better and without a turbo
Un travail magnifique sur cette Dauphine! Nice job men! :) (Dauphine price in Europe 2500 to 11 000 €)
2500 tu as les restes de la caisse.
Love it, always appreciate how much time and effort people put into their builds
