Right? There's people out there that are very kind, but so many out there just...aren't. I know it's how humans can be, but America tends to have some really bad people in it. Not saying other countries don't, of course, but as an American, I hear all the stories XD But hearing them have good stories and showing they had a good time is great! Hopefully one day, we'll have some American-based off collabs with some JP members!
I think most americans are rather charmed by cute tourist girls from other countries that are obviously there to have a fun experience and take pictures and try the food, etc. It's the foreign people that want to actually LIVE there, who have no desire to adapt to the culture, that americans intensely dislike.

It's pretty common to fake celebrate in retail/restaurant businesses when someone says they have a birthday. I can't say I've seen it in supermarkets before though...

Man, I really wish I could just hop on a plane for 10 hours and be in Japan. Living on the east coast of the US means there's usually two or three flights involved and usually 14 or 15 hours of flying.
I flew ANA, you gotta go to New York/New Jersey but it can be done in 13...not counting my 3 hours of train/bus to the airport. Or the 2 hours in the airport. Or the time spent in Customs on arrival. All in all, I was awake more than 24 hours by the time we got to where we were staying (I don't sleep on planes). Honestly though, if you want to go, 10/10

Imho everyone who has never fired a gun should take the opportunity to go to an indoor range when they can and just... have that experience for the first time. It's about as expensive as any other leisure activity, guns are constantly in video games, movies, and the news (and thus having firsthand experience gives you some good perspective on them), and the physical sensation of it is extremely unique.

That grocery store encounter sounded like they were somewhere rural maybe. You don't see many happy birthday announcements over the speakers here, or any place I've lived in this country, and I've lived both east/out west. Really happy their impression was a good one though! Two really awesome talents deserved a really good summer break!
As someone born and raised in the USA, I've literally only seen that in restaurants. And I've literally lived in 3 different states(techinically more from when I was too young to remember) on either coast and finally in the mid-west.
It's good that those people were so nice. However, for me, it's bad when people are not only very rude but also waaaaay too nice. It's super mixed where I am in the southern US. I felt more at ease in many businesses in Japan, at least until English-proficient cashiers ask me personal questions or compliment. It is nice, but a shock!! I'm there to enjoy some nice professionalism. XD I live in fear of birthday announcements! My small high school announced peoples' birthdays and I begged the office ladies to not do mine!

It really depends on the location. Nearby the coasts and in large cities, it's rough, but out in the countryside it's a lot calmer. For now at least.
