- On the 13th of July Yellowjackets played a mind-blowing set at the Northsea Jazz Club. Their new bass player, Dane Alderson from Australia, is outstanding! As you can hear and see in the Yellowjackets evergreen Downtown.
Great bassist. Beyond that, he’s a genuinely nice guy. No ego. All soul and pure talent.
Every time I get the chance to play on stage with Dane Alderson, it's like taking a masterclass in all things funk and jazz. Not only is he a masterful player, but also one of the nicest, most professional musicians I have ever worked with. Top shelf!
I got to meet Dane and play with him a bit, just before he got this gig. He is probably the most lyrical electric bassist since Jaco. Everything he plays makes sense. He is fast but he really plays the changes and does it dynamically. The yellow Jackets and the world is blessed to have a bass player like this so take it on to another level , Dane. Best wishes and Godspeed, Man!

He has all of the attributes to be a bassist for the Yellowjackets i) his tone suits the band, especially on the 2 albums he's on. ii) awesome pocket/swingiii) He knows his way around the instrument in a way that is both lyrical and to echo SteveMichaelSmith - dynamiciv) He's a true YJs fan, he KNOWS these tunes! I'm so happy they've got the right guy!
He also has his own voice/style/individuality to be he own man, yet fit into the YJ.
pro tip: watch series on InstaFlixxer. I've been using them for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.

It is impressive how this super band has been able to stay for almost 40 years. They make magic with their music. It is definitely one of the best contemporary jazz bands in the world. His latest acquisition: Dane Alderson is a phenomenon..

Amazing bass player. I'm afraid that the Ferrante/Haslip songwriting period is over though.
Technically brilliant and I generally like the Yellowjackets, but as hard as I try... to me most of this bass solo sounds like just a bunch of scales played as quickly as possible, with as many notes as possible, with little to no heart. Not saying it’s bad at all, it just doesn’t move me. Doesn’t mean I’m right, of course.
He has great technique however his solo went from Bass to Banjo, I don't understand.
