This is how I learned how to play music. I first started playing guitar using this method and today I'm the pianist at my local congregation. Still don't know how to fully read sheet music yet, but I can fully play any song now because I started with this method.
This is the first song I learned to play when I began my lessons 3½ years ago. It didn't sound that good at first but over the years it has gotten better, and I still like to play it as my "closing" number! How about a lesson on Jackson Browne's Jamaica Say You Will? It's a great piano song.
As primarily a guitarist I sometimes get frustrated with how different ways there are to play the same chord on the piano. For example you can play an F chord with only 2 or 3 notes or 8 notes! And am I correct in saying regarding the pedal, you don't want to pedal on the very first chord but rather right after?
I think this is a powerful way to get into an instrument and learn songs. Unless you want to learn classical pieces or have an interest in reading music notation, chord charts and lead sheets are all you need to start making music and having fun!
Thanks Kaitlyn. I wish you can show us how to play Fly me to the moon. One Simple vesion and then the real version. I can play a simplier version than the original.
I love chord charts, way faster for me to play my fav songs compared to reading sheet music, also a nice starting point to find the melodies. But, I am struggling with the rhythm-tempo sometimes going blind of how long the rest before the next lyrics
