I love you old boy your just like me. When it isn't going good I'll never do this again. When it's get done and looks good you get all cocky. You're a man after my own heart.

Jerry, so glad I found your channel. You are the best at all you do. The years of work show the craftsmanship you have achieved. Great job on the Gibson it looks perfect.
I found this series while looking for inspiration for my own refinishing project. I inherited my Grandfather's 1955 (FON) J45 and the finish looks like a broken window. It was with him since it was new and traveled around the world with him while he was a missionary for 35-ish years. Hopefully I can rejuvenate the finish and keep it alive for years to come, and possibly pass it onto my own grandkids.
Your effort was tireless. How you never gave up will teach the young and old that you need to do your best and don’t give up. As an electronics engineer, we are stuck trying to fix the impossible, I never give up and after 29.5 years I retired. The rule of the impossible fix is if you do the same thing with the same results and it still doesn’t work, go different stop going in a circle go elipitical it might work
For divits in timber you can lay a damp cloth over the divit and use the hot soldering iron to steam out the exact area. The steam swells the timber and it should pop it out.
THE SOUND OF IT SORT OF MADE ALL THE PAIN GO AWAY. GREAT TO HEAR IT SINGING AGAIN. IT LEFT YOUR SHOP WITH A SMILE IN ITS HEART. CERTAINLY MADE ME SMILE HEARING YOU SING A BIT OF OLE HANK. BRILLIANT, JERRY. WELL DONE INDEED.
We all know you are one of the best in the game if not THE best and simply put... Great job Sir. Your efforts and unfortunately at this point pain entertain inform and aid a great deal of people all over the world and we are lucky to have you. Thank you very sincerely Jerry
5-26-2023. Jerry thanks for the info learned a lot. Back of the Gibson Guitar looks great! I will follow your advice as I am now refinishing a Harmony Guitar.
You should look for fish eye eliminator for a lacquer.... I painted classic cars yours and years ago we were both old-timer s. I don't use lacquer on cars anymore I'm not even sure if you can find the product... But if you can.. adding fisheye eliminator will solve your crater problem.... Don't put it in your supply batch... Only use it in the product You're going to paint with immediately after adding it.... You'll be amazed how well it works.. Also notice you finished with shellac... Enough to meet you and see your shot and share notes.. I've been a machinist for 40 years and I have at least two decades and car and airplane restoration I love meeting skilled seasoned people like yourself to share knowledge . No little about musical instruments but have a deep love for music and I do know some very accomplished well-known musicians that I admire. I cover all of North America in my job doing service and CNC machines currently So I'd love to communicate and if I'm in your area I'd love to meet you and see her shop I agree in the sanding there's nothing more valuable than your years of figuring out what works I can probably show you a few techniques for my car restoration years that will produce a flatter more perfect finish if that's something you're looking for. I also think I know why you're getting the balling with 600 sandpaper It has to do with the hardness of the finish That may or may not be something you can overcome it would be one of the things if we ever meet we could chat about
Great job Jerry. I know I'm late commenting - came to it for another look. People just don't realise how difficult it is to get a good finish - whether that's a repair or on a new project. Kit guitars can leave the DIYers quite a job, and more expense than you'd think for materials alone. All the best.
For some reason, I cannot find the first episode of this video. I sure would like to see it. I’ll go through your archives again maybe I can find it. Nice job.
Jerry, my friend, I feel your pain! As a Gunsmith I use nitrocellulose as little as possible.. and I use gallons of shellac - which I use various grades of wire wool, finishing at 00000 grade.. yes, five ought…. Which is on par with 1000 grit.. It’s about 7 months since you did this work, but I’m with you all the way! The struggle with finishing is the same with gunstocks! The restoration work you’ve done will never be fully recompensed.. I’m so tempted to do a tribute guitar job.. as I do have a guitar that has a wracked neck from someone’s really bad neck job.. it only cost me £20 on eBay.. love what you do, as I know what it’s like trying to create perfection for a customer on a budget.. the budget jobs always seem to bite you on the butt.. 😂
❤Idjust love! To watching you working on this guitars!😄 amazing results every time!👏🏻👏🏻 when the sound feels like “poring warm honey in to your ears” then you now it’s right!..😊 you are amazing..keep going.
I wish everyone wrapped their strings like this. I would only add that I put in more slack as the string gets thinner, so as to wrap down the post and increase the angle on the string to the nut to as much as I can, but not too much. Gives you the best sound if you have clean nut channels. Brilliant
Congratulations with restoring this wreck to its original glory! Your dedication to quality and uncompromising attitude is admirable, but it hurt seeing you strip away all the finish you'd done at some point. Down to the bare wood again! Lucky owner who gets such a fine work of art back.
what a beautiful job that your trainee boogered up that you turned into a absolute beauty..i learn so much from watching you work on guitars and fixing the broken ones and making them look like they were nev er damaged.. you are truly a master luthier..Caleb is a very nice fellow but his skills were a bit questionable and thats normal for someone in training.. but he was learning and you rescued what he left you with. actually i thought the guitar was a major wreck but wow you made it look like a $10,000 guitar..you are a magnificent luthier Jerry..Another success story and i love the bluegrass music you play as well..
You did a grate job on this Gibson guitar mister, it looks and sounds good! Your singing and playing is not bad at all ;-)) continue these vids cause we like them!!
I had an old beat-up acoustic.(brand name unknown), and the finish was damaged and scratched so bad, I had to remove all the finish. Made up my mind I was going to just use a paint brush and paint the whole thing by hand and use shellac as a final finish carefully just brushed on. I must tell you, it turned out not all that bad for a hand finish. Never intended it to look perfect right from the beginning but I will say, it looks a whole lot better than in did when I first got it. It wan't worth my time in going to all trouble you went through on the Gibson. The way I saw it was, if it looked decent and stood out from a distance, I would be happy, and that's how it turned out. At least it playable and doesn't look all that bad. I couldn't spray it indoors of the house here, and winter weather didn't allow me to do spraying outside so this was the best I could come up with to finish the guitar off. It's nice to know that I wasn't only the only one having issues doing finishing. Least mine's done and is nice and shinny, sounds good to.
hey Jerry, just to be clear, I watch you every day, love your sweet Christian self & work and everything, and I MAY BE WRONG, BUT about that black on the Gibson, yeah the Hummingbird has it, but the old plain ones ? show me, though I'm not from Missouri. God bless you and family and your hands and the work and your Tuesday nights and everything.
I love you old boy your just like me. When it isn't going good I'll never do this again. When it's get done and looks good you get all cocky. You're a man after my own heart.
Jerry, You know that when the Navajos weave a rug they deliberately drop a stitch, or two, to remind them they are not perfect, nor is the world.
Persian rugs are also made that way and for the same reason.
Your work is amazing. I learn something new with every “episode “.
Fantastic video always like a Hank song what a great song writer he was 🇬🇧
Grate job, it looks beautiful and it's an oldie but a goodies.
Is that your narcissism shining through? 😁😁🤣
Thanks for everything you do Jerry! Don't listen to the haters.
Great video on a challenging piece of work…pretty good vocal too👍🇺🇸🎸

Just plain lovely...U2 sound great...
I didn't hear any U2, in there. 😁🤣
Congratulations Jerry! That went the full 12 rounds but you sure won the fight. That old gibson looks beautiful!

true gentleman
That guitar really tested your patience and tolerence but your labours of love won out again, superb craftsmanship.
Superb yoddling. I'm soooo glad I stayed till the end!!!!!
WOW Jerry: I can't believe the result! You really had me guessing if the finish would ever come around. You've done it again!
the fact that you have not charged him since the debacle with the finish speaks to your honor. That is admirable!

Your singing is no advertisement for your work as a guitar luthier......
Excellent Jerry! You did a beautiful job on that 1930's Gibson. I am sure a lot of guitar player's would love to own it ha!
Good job sir
Just like a country doctor!
Pretty cool.
