After this weekend, he will have had 5 ufc fights in 14 months. That is insane. This is how professional fighting use to be-both in boxing and mma. This is why Alex is beloved.

Tbh he is also enjoying fighting a lot now because he isn’t getting any younger. But it’s still crazy that he is just fighting former champions on short notice…TWICE. AND NOT ITS FOR THE BELT.
The most underrated part of Alex's story/career is the tail end of his kickboxing career. The people he beat around that time were also world class champions. All of those fighters have hunderds of wins and KO's combined, and he knocked most of the spark out. He is already one of the greates kickboxers of our era and now he is also a champion in multiple weight divisions in the UFC. Man bro no lie. Alex discipline is what is crazy to me. For him to go from 230 to 180 and not look drained just tells how honed in he is on his craft. He kinda a rendition of the older fighters before the game and million dollar payouts. Dude is a 🐐 fasho

I used to think this was a disadvantage, but not speaking English actually helps Alex. You never sound cringe when you have a translator. He literally lets his fighting speak for him
It’s funny too because at first ufc only wanted to use him to boost Izzy and didn’t see his potential. I mean he’s one of the only fighters that had me watching fight clips of them out of the UFC, he always had something different about him. It’s the mix of activity and finishes that made him a star so fast. Also helped him that Izzy became disliked, so he gained tons of support immediately.
Fighters can still be champions in divisions 185 and above due to the lower skill level, which means strength and power become more determining factors in fights.
His Izzy storyline was already crazy but let´s keep in mind that he is also a friend, fan and pupil with Glover Teixeira. Once he was done with all the Izzy fuzz he got the Glover avenger mantle beating Jamahall, and now with Jiri and the whole Pataxó Warrior vs Samurai and magic thing going, it´s like the dude keeps pulling storylines out of thin air. I love Poatan but he is already a living legend, I really hope tomorrow Jiri gets the W in order to have a trilogy. And what the hell, let Alex take over Heavyweight before he quits. He has the aura.
I really hope this doesn't' age poorly. Everyone just assumes Jiri loses despite giving a very good performance last time which is making me think jiri might just win.

I'm actually friends with his handler and translator Plinio Cruz. I don't know Alex, but Plinio is a stand up dude, who taught my brother and I ALOT of the tricks of the trade. To see that Poatan has a high quality dude like that helping him handle all the success tells me all I need to know. Rooting for him to get another big win tonight!!
Some other things that we don't mention about Pereira is that he has his own catch phrase which is easy to pronounce for any human being that speaks any language. Chama! And how that's essentially the only comprehensible thing he says if you don't speak Portuguese makes it also even more memorable. I think if he spoke English he'd have somehow ruined his chances of sounding and looking like the stoic Easter island head that he is. Alex will always be beloved. He's already beloved by hardcore Kickboxing and Muay Thai fans.
