What about when the slo mo guys recorded light at 1 trillion fps
@@incription That video is compiled from multiple pictures taken with different takes so it's not actually video of single light ray
@@Beyondthepress I'm sorry, technically each of your cameras is a different take of the same scen.
So when you trigger once, you actually gets 72 takes from different angles, and you compile pictures takes with different cameras. So how is that any different?
You are calling this a "slow motions setup", the "1 trillion fps" video also shows a "setup".
Would make great Screen-Savers and Wallpapers to download.👍

That third shot is the first time I've ever seen a deflagration to detonation transition with my own eyes. Incredible.
I think we had good luck with us to be able film that. I think my high tech blowtorch broom made the mixture on some points slower to make slow combustion possible before explosion.
Could be! But I bet your mix was correct in the whole balloon. The transition from slow combustion to detonation is common in certain types of explosives. It even has an acronym: DDT. Some explosives will burn slowly in small quantities, but if you get a big enough pile it reaches a critical mass where the burn turns to real detonation. I've seen many such explosions, but I've never seen a camera quick enough to capture it happening.

I agree-they must work hard to keep it fresh. It takes more than a budget to make a good show. Anni seems like a brilliant businesswoman. I am really curious what she does with her career after the show ends.
@@quantitativeease Eh, it's an advertisement for the camera builder. Don't think they paid for those cameras for a second.
A spark plug placed up through the center of the metal setup with a simple old car ignition coil so you can trigger the explosion in the center of the bubble with no camera obstruction from a torch would be amazing video. The flame front would be seen from all sides expanding from the middle out in a hemisphere shape. You could mix in a little of other gases to change the color and or speed of the burn. I have used spark plug to set off items being photographed in the past and it just looks better without ignition sources in the way of the camera and you can trim the end of the mettle so the spark happens to the side of the center electrode and shows well at the very start of the ignition on camera.
AllenFunStuff I hope they do it!!
@@p38sheep yeah I think it would look great to see the flame front from all sides with no obstructions
AllenFunStuff it would be FANTASTIC! Something I would honestly buy stills of and hang on my walls...
That is a damn good idea! I hope they read this comment and make note of it!
piezo from a lighter would also do...
You need a spark ignition source! The torch just blows the gasses around and messes up the symmetry of the explosion.
Good idea!
Thank you

@@joebond5012 what
That was my first thought, I can see why they didn't though as it would add an extra thing to worry about and would likely be destroyed or at least need resetting with every explosion (especially if base mounted) whereas a torch is much easier to use
"The Slow Mo Guys" start to shake nervously
they used a highspeed camera that could film the speed of light, so I mean. Not the fastest on youtube.
I love the Slo Mo Guys. And Lauri and Anni. They are both channels with great character and content without being over produced.
@@NoahKPeters That wasn't a camera they own. That camera was created at a university. And it doesn't record like a normal highspeed camera.
@@1kuhny Still, they did use it for a video on their RUclips channel, regardless of them not owning it, regardless of how it worked. So, given that, it's hard to say "fastest high speed camera on RUclips" when other videos have used a faster camera/multi-camera/multi-sensor setup. When the title said "fastest high speed camera on RUclips" it didn't specify that you had to own the camera setup for it to count, lol.

4:40 - You guys always get it. I see so many slow-mo videos from other people where an explosion is over-exposed, and they just leave it. I'm routinely pleased by your attention to detail.
You actually captured the deflagration to detonation transition; very rare to film this outside of laboratories.
I think that setups turns our workshop to laboratory :D
@@Beyondthepress The only difference between science and fooling around, is writing it down(documentation).
Since you filmed it, you sort of documented it, which means this is sort of science.
@@Beyondthepress And the shot I am talking about where this transition took place was the large acetylene bubble. The point where the blue propagating flame front suddenly transitions to a shock and a yellow/red dispersion of flame fringes. That is the transition from stoichiometric deflagration to detonation. The flame front d''v/dt exponentially increases and crosses the transonic region into supersonic. That had a high level of brisance as acetylene detonation is greater than that of TNT.
@@Beyondthepress I was thinking the same. I wouldnt be surprized if some scientiests or students contacted you to run a few experiments. So much to learn that we havent been able to see before.
Wow, thanks for posting @Brain Streufert, I was wondering how that was happening!! I'm much more knowledgeable about detonation and DDT, super cool!
Normally when I say stuff like this I'm exaggerating or being silly. This time however I'm dead serious. Those videos of the bubbles exploding are almost certainly the coolest thing I've ever seen on RUclips. That was amazing.
Wow Tesla500 really got in shape since I last saw him, he looks good.
The expanding blue patterned flame front is displaying classic Rayleigh--Taylor hydrodynamic instability at the interface between the high density shock front and the surrounding lower density uncombusted gas mix, it is a severe problem that has bedeviled laser driven inertial confinement fusion research on imploding deuterium-tritium microcapsules for over 4 decades now. The sequence beginning at 6:00 is highly intriguing to me and appears to show a transition from simple propagating deflagration wave to a true detonation (the intense acceleration of the water droplets as you note is evidence of a powerful shock wave). I would really like to see much more investigation on what is actually occurring here! I bet with further videos you may even be able to observe other more exotic effects such as Richtmyer-Meshkov instability in the shock front. Most delightful videos.
Highly unlikely using the visible spectrum of light.
Hey! I know some of these words :)
@@StreuB1 I don't know, it can appear in the most unusual situations. It can be seen on the surface of the water after the cavitation bubble collapse in Destin's old high speed underwater rifle videos for example.

For the 4th of July we fill up a 55 gallon garbage bag full oxygen and acetylene and set it off with Roman candles and it knocks pictures off the wall inside the house.
This is the most original content I've seen in a while. What an amazing idea resulting in incredible pictures. I can not wait for the next episode!!!
With this camera rig- you could also create 3-D renders of the explosion.
With 3 cameras in the ring taking photos simultaneously you could capture a lot more detail in each still-frame, but (sadly) at 1/3 of the overall FPS.
However being able to 'explore' the explosion with VR would be pretty damn cool.
That's some of the coolest slow-mo I've ever seen.

Such cool images. They remind me of the Hubble images. Spectacular!
This is no accident, the underlying physical phenomenon driving it, Rayleigh-Taylor hydrodynamic instability, is highly scale-invariant and is also the main cause of the Crab Nebula's distinct appearance in Hubble images, and this is what allows astrophysical phenomena to be simulated in the laboratory with surprising fidelity using various methods.
@@Muonium1 I've never heard of it before, but RTHI sounds awesome and is my new friend.👌🌠
@Paolo G what do you mean?
@@Muonium1 You missed the joke
@@Finnspeed I guess I did
Wow, I think you just showed us the difference between burning the acetylene and having it explode all in one shot.
I never got into studying the flame front in combustion properly, but I believe this is the same thing as what can happen during a detonation or pinging event in an internal combustion engine. The flame front has started to burn, then the rest of the mixture has auto ignited. The severe pressure wave caused by this impacts the block and causes the block to ring, making the sound known as pinging. It does explain why this is so loud.
Exactly--deflagration to detonation transition. Acetylene-oxgyen detonation velocity is almost 3000 m/s. It's amazing being able to watch the flame front switch from slow unstable blue deflagration to blinding white detonation!
I guess you're right but inside an ICE cylinder it's the flame front pressing the remaining fresh mixture against the walls what causes it to self-ignite. How can the same thing happen here without any physical walls? Is it that the deflagration's flame front has become supersonic by the time the transition takes place?
You will find it is the difference in volatility of the two different fuels. You wouldn't get this to happen in open air with a petrol vapour mixture.
@@johanssonb 6:05 I think the expanding blue flame front is compressing the remaining mixture (against the air outside), and radiatively heating it, until the unburned mixture detonates. There's some good simulations and descriptions of the subsonic deflagration to supersonic detonation transition here: combustion.tamu.edu/ddt/
Wow, the difference between the regular high speed and bullet is amazing. It is like another reality. It is as different as real life speed and high speed!
Very cool!!

@@XtreeM_FaiL Yoooo that's so cool! Thank you for telling me that!!! You're awesome!!!
I don't think that flame front speed change in the second clip was due to poor mixing. Looked more like a deflagration to detonation transition. Length scale is right for that, as is the colour change.
Hey Anni and Lauri! Acetylene auto detonates at 22 psi. You should test this out!
No. No you should not.
Only in a dry tank. But yeah, very bad idea.
@Taofledermaus Get this setup! 😆👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻
330000fps/72=4583rps=275000rpm
a.) If there exists a small electrical engine, that can spin that fast, you can film things like a standing wave in a vibration or a CD exploding from centrifugal force.
b.) If that speed is too fast, you can still film slower with slower settings.
c.) You could propell something by pressurized air instead of engine. Anything filming same speed as the rotation must be interessting.
Even if you don’t, these videos are impressive.
Who needs Slow Mo Guys when you have THIS, this is way cooler in my opinion.
