For 2024 Pivot is ready to unleash the 3rd generation Switchblade. It may initially appear quite similar to its predecessor, but a raft of updates to the frame, geometry and suspension platform have merged together to elevate its descending capabilities and overall appeal.
To test out the new Switchblade, Wil was fortunate to be invited out to Phoenix in Arizona, home of Pivot Cycles, as part of the official launch. As well as getting an intimate look at the R&D lab where Pivot designs and manufacturers its stunning CNC machined lugged and carbon-tubed prototypes, he spent three days dodging cacti and smashing into rocks aboard the Switchblade to see what it’s all about!

Not a bad review but $ 17990 Pivot is taking the piss!!!!!
Yeah but I don't want the poors riding the same bike I ride.
More $$ than basically any 250/450 moto on the market. Just crazy stuff.
Bad comparison. This is a high end bike, therefore you'd want to compare a high end moto which are well over $100k. These mountain bikes require tighter tolerances, and more premium materials. If you made a moto using the same materials, and made the same quantity, the moto would be 10x more expensive. It's a premium bike from a premium brand, lotta people are just jealous cause they can't afford one.
KTM 450 Factory edition is the same price as the Pivot and already has all the high end parts that KTM offer for it, beyond that level would be like building the Pivot above the highest level Pivot offer@@topspot4834
almost 11,700 usd. Seriously $1k pricier than my dream off-road adv Yamaha Tenerer 700.
That is for the ultra premium they start around 6k
3x the price of my Dad's Buick Sportwagon 1973
Best review so far.
My 2021 Switch was freaking awesome.
Yeah definitely no need to "upgrade" and I'd rather buy your version for 30% off than full retail for this one. Kinda like iphones, reached a plateau and differences are minimal.
Seems like there's virtually no difference to the last generation SB
Dream bike
Nice work Wil 👍. Never ridden a Pivot but I aspire to one day and the Switchblade is probably the model I'd pick if given the chance. Must have great to test the latest Switchblade on Pivot's own test trails in AZ. How close is the switchblade in climbing performance to the 429 and how close is it to descending performance to the Firebird?
Another contrast I'd be interested in hearing about how the updated dw-link compares to the more affordable dual link Giant Maestro platform?
Thanks very much Sandy! It was an awesome experience riding some of the trails around Pivot's HQ in Arizona, the terrain was incredible and we got to see some cool stuff in the R&D facility.
Regarding the Trail 429 and the Firebird, I'd say overall the new Switchblade is closer to the Firebird now. It's still a great pedalling bike for sure, it's just plusher and more stable on the descents with the updated geo and suspension platform. It'd be interesting to outfit the Trail 429 and the Switchblade with the same wheels and tyres to get a comparative test in regards to climbing abilities, but I think overall the lower weight and snappier pedalling of the Trail 429 would give it the edge.
The Maestro platform also works really well, which you'd expect given the two designs aren't exactly worlds apart. I have found that Giant's latest designs have trended more towards traction and plushness over outright pedalling efficiency, whereas Pivot still puts a lot of emphasis on stability.
We're currently organising a Switchblade frameset to build up as a long-term test bike, so it'll be great to get it onto local trails and provide some more comparative feedback - stay tuned!

Where abouts are these trails? Looks amazing!!
Just outside Phoenix in Arizona. Great place to ride and test bikes! [Wil]
They’re still using press fit BB? Is that a cooling fan mounted at the base of the downtube?
2:31 noise wetting?? Does the frame have water ingress holes to quieten it down?
“Pushing the envelope”. It’s a very minor, minor update. Minor!
The small 2024 Switchblade is getting very close to the medium 2020 Firebird in geometry. This might be might upgrade path.....
Superboost AND press fit bottom bracket? LOL. Thanks?
No internal storage ? Bruh
Pivot Internal Storage System?
Hi there
Can I ask what chain ⛓️ is on this switchblade it looks soooo good on that bike I want one
It will be a SRAM flat top chain they do.
Do they run internal cables through 24K gold sleeves or something?? How can you justify charging $18K for any bike!!!!! All mountain bikers complain about pricing and the industry is having clearout sales and then these guys are just like....... BOOM!!!! We dont give a crap where the industry is heading
IKR, imagine if there were premium car makers charging more than Kia
While I'm not one of them, there are people who pay for bikes like this and that's OK. I drive Honda vehicles on the same roads as people who drive BMW Ms and Merc AMGs. That being said, a rider on a Polygon or Marin is not having any less fun than someone on this beautiful superbike.
I paid close to 10k for my pivot during the pandemic. And it was constantly on back order.
Just because you can’t or won’t pay for it, doesn’t mean that there doesn’t exist others who have the means to relatively easily pay for a 20k bike.
That said, I don’t have a single 20k bike either haha. I preferred multiple 10k bikes which I can then use to swap and ride on different occasions. One bike for each day of the week if I wanted to 😅
@@zed5129 No, it's more like Kia selling another one of their shit cars at 3x-4x the price it should be.
They aren’t doing anyone a favor now adays by giving the big time bloggers/reviewers top of the line bikes that only the 1% ers can afford….but even bottom specs are over 6k lol…just crazy inflation
Yeah 10k+ for pressfit 😂. For 6k you get an beta xtrainer 300...for 4k more you can add the finest Suspension and have even more fun
So expensive and still no in-frame storage and I have to endure a PF BB? No
DAMPING not DAMPENING but at $18k I wouldn't be surprised if it's full of expensive and rare holy water
18k! And I’m out…
Starting at $10k is a joke.
Time for you guys to review more affordable bikes that don't require selling your kidney!
Yeh but they do.. multiple Marins and Polygons, Meridas etc. Its a great review and if I able too, I'd get one of these. Not too slack, but plenty of travel and generous reach numbers... A genuine All Mountain bike (I ride the Norco Sight).
Second this
Pivot are absolute top price on all their frames.
The last bike reviewed by Flow was a Polygon. They review lots of different bikes.
If 10k is a “sell your kidney price”, I think your perception it’s more a “you” problem than anything else.
If it was 100k or something like how things are in the hifi world, where 10k is more often than not just the starting point for most systems of appreciably good performance, I’d understand lol. But it’s just 10k, most ppl could easily get that with half a year worth of saving. I would get this too if I didn’t feel guilty of having the previous switch blade and only ridden it 5 times since I got it during the pandemic.
That price is just ridiculous. If you pay this for any mountain bike you've made a bad decision.
I don't see any envelope pushing...they're playing catch up to the rest of the industry with the slack, long geo figures.
and that's fine with me. I ride pedaling intensive trails just like these bikes are developed on. I don't want super long or slack. That sucks for these trails.
More expensive than a brand new KTM 300exc enduro dirtbike...🤦 who are they kidding.
there is no difference with the model from 2022. The difference is a little more reach and everything else is the same.
Pivot mountain bikes are trash! Just ask Bernard Kerr! My buddy had one and the frame broke in half!
I watched it live....man that was nuts. It was a prototype but wow. Dude wins qualifying and just cases the triple by a hair and CRACK.
@@in_10z that's crazy, I would never in a million years buy a Pivot brand bike! This is going to potentially ruin the company! Their bikes have a host of issues!
You two dudes are full or crap. Pivots are amazing. I’ve had 6 and NEVER had an issue. Damn broke ass trolls…lol
