Completing the Fanatec Podium Build - Turn Racing R320 Rim

- The Fanatec Podium Button Module is a fussy thing to buy for - there are so few rims that fit it of the GT/Formula style. The Turn Racing R320, though, is a perfect fit and makes the whole assembly complete. Thanks to this humble rim solving this problem, they have another happy customer.

Nice job as always Danny. I'm going to pre order my fanatec dd pro soon as selling my csl elite wheel base so I can purchase this item. Keep the great content coming
Thank you. Just what I was looking for
Thanks for this. I was looking for other options outside of Fanatec for a wheel build. I forgot about Turn. They have a very decently priced button plate, and it will play nice with a Fanatec Podium hub. I'm considering building a podium hub setup, and i wish Fanatec offered different plates. The Turn plate is a good way to go.
I've got a Turn BP2 on my rig right now courtesy of Turn - it's working great
It’s very nice man, but not too heavy for the csl dd?
how much difference do you feel in strength, details and responsiveness compared to the smaller and lighter Mclaren v2 GT3?
Trust me, you are right to be worried about that. :)
What is the advantage of the Podium Hub over the Clubsport Universal Hub? It Looks like the Clubsport Hub is also compatible with the Podium button module & Podium advanced paddle shifters.
From the looks of it, im positive it will fit the 305mm rim. It even fits the 300m from fanatec.
You'll need a spacer to use the R305 - it needs it to clear the thumbdials at the bottom of the button module
@@dannyleeracing thanks for the answer. I would love to do it with the r305. How big has the spacer to be?
@@azamat19 take a look at Turn Racing's R305 site page and it'll tell you exactly what you need in the compatibility description, they're helpful like that!
Would this sit nicely on the moza Cs wheel?
Yes, it does - I did that myself!
I have one and love it 😀
It's brilliant, and hopefully more interesting stuff to come from Turn Racing down the line given the obvious knack the bloke has
I was thinking about this exact setup. I even searched for it and today stumbled across this awesome video. What's the total weight? Wondering about using the Clubsport Magnetic shifters over the APM shifters.
Total weight of the wheel (rim and assembly, the whole thing) is 1900g according to the kitchen scales!
Hi! I have purchased one!! Thanks for this video… one question, how do you change the color buttons of the Fanatec Module?
is there a chance to run the lights& Display on SeriesX?...i have heard it didnt work on XBox/Series💩
🤗
Nice video thanks! How much clearance is there between the module and the interior of the rim?
Great video as this is something that I am seriously thinking about due to the quick shift mod on my Mclaren failing on me. I have got another Mclaren wheel but I don't like the standard shifters. My only concern is that I am on PS5 and I'm not sure what works and what doesn't. I don't suppose you know do you. I would like pretty much the same as you have and I presume my base is fine as its the DD Pro which is basically the same as yours. Any help would be much appreciated. ✌️😎
The Podium Hub, Paddle Module and Button Module are all labelled as PS Ready on the Fanatec site, I think you might be good to go! So long as all components show the PS Ready tag on the product page they are supposed to be PS compatible! Read the product descriptions carefully though, as best to read Fanatec's advice on that
@@dannyleeracing cheers mate. I've actually just got a 2019 F1 wheel with the podium shifters off Ebay now but this could still be something I could get further on as I do prefer a slightly wider wheel rim.
Why did you go with the endurance button module over the universal button module? The universal wouldn’t have had the same space constraints as the buttons can move around.
The lcd dashboard was probably the biggest draw overall, as well as the other aesthetics of the module in general. I definitely felt the pain for it, but at least there was one rim that could do the trick.
Hi mate i was wondering which of the gt3 mclaren or u turn racing wheel is easier to drive with for gt3 cars? With controls better, feels better? Im trying to choose between the two..
I prefer the Turn wheel overall, it's slightly larger and has a more comfortable grip, both of which tends to mean better control. The Mclaren will be much cheaper overall, though!
If I can ask, regarding the GT-zero Cube wheel and needing a spacer, my brain isn't quite dialing it in and that, would you have another way of describing it?
The GT-Zero Cube wheel has a diameter that's quite small, meaning it's too small a circle to clear the dials that stick out on the podium hub. It's too small a circle, meaning it has to have a spacer sandwiched between the Rim and the Podium Hub in order to screw on, but it's not an ideal fit doing it that way as the buttons are then harder to reach.
Acelith also has a pretty nice F1 style rim for Podium Endurance Module. It costs less than 100€. Not sure about the build quality though
I've seen their stuff before but the styling is way too zingy for my taste, it needs calming down a bit - credit to them for providing these things though, the more choice the better
Hi Danny. Great video.
I was considering doing the same rim/button module setup myself.
But I was wondering how you find the 32cm width of this Turn rim along with the depth increase from the podium? Is it *that* different from say, a Fanatec Formula rim?
The extra width is quite a big difference, your arms will be moving around a bit more. However, once you get used to it, you do find it easier to be accurate.
Very cool channel 🙃
this may be a silly question.. but the 'U' in the middle of the wheel seems indented.
How does the skin not fill the indentations ?
or do you flip the wheel to the other side ?
The sticker doesn't 'fill' the indentation but it is a thick enough gauge that it basically doesn't show up as a cavity
@@dannyleeracing Thanks mate!
Hi Danny.
Great review.
I am trying to build the exact same Turn wheel with the Fanatec Podium Endurance Module but not sure what size of M5 screws to use.
Do you know what length of M5’s you used on the build?
Appreciate the help -thanks!
Keep up the great videos!!
The M5 screws included with the Button Module will work fine - you get some in the box. It's only if you have additional spacers that extra length M5's will be needed. Thanks for the feedback!
Great video! Love the way the wheel looks and the customisation you’ve done. I’m considering getting the GT DD Pro (CSL DD) and have been worried about heavier wheels on this hub. How is the fully loaded wheel responding compared to the McLaren wheel which would be nearly half the weight. Is there a massive dampening difference between the two?
Simple: 8nm fine has no consequences 5nm it has consequences
is this a yoke?
is it good for F1 recent and vintage ?
Isn't the grip material too hard? It seems plasticky. How does it compare to the grip material of the McLaren Fanatec wheel?
The Mclaren's grip handles feel much harder/cheaper to me, the Turn's grip is ever so slightly squishy in comparison. If you wear gloves then the Turn grip feels fantastic, if you're going bare-handed then it's not as good as a suede grip would be.
@@dannyleeracing Thanks for the answer.
I think 320 is too big for gt or formula. Im looking for an 300mm wheel to put on the module. The r300 from fanatec has bad grips.
Nice !1
Looks like a formula vee wheel
